The one channel that I have never stopped watching is Vash12349 as it is always a good time.

As for finding them you just have to search for games that your interested in and start watching untill something clocks with you.

Not sure if “smaller” but definitely Many A True Nerd. Funny, chaotic, wholesome and total allies with a great community. Plus pets!

I’m thinking we’re sticking with games older than this year, as the dust hasn’t settled yet so to speak? Because honestly otherwise some recent entries would qualify for me. I’m thinking of you, Blue Prince and Clair Obscur.

I have a lower opinion of BG3 than most (it’s fine), but I absolutely agree that the Raphael boss fight and music was an absolute gaming highlight, and worth the price of admission alone.

Alan Wake 2 in its entirety would qualify for me, but if one moment has to be singled out then the We Sing chapter was something else. Honorable mention for Saga’s corrupted mind place near the end, that was incredibly memorable.

Finally, and the real standout for me was the Final Dream in Disco Elysium. The most emotional, most impactful and heartbreaking and memorable moment I’ve had in gaming. And the most impressive seeing as Kurvitz (who wrote the scene) managed to distill the pathos and denouement of the entire game into three words to close the dream:

spoilerSee you tomorrow.

Disclaimer : I really haven’t been able to play nearly as many games as I should have.

Doki doki literature club.

Inscryption

Thronglets (mobile).

For all pretty much the same reason. I get tingly when games interact with you as the player rather than you the avatar. It has to be done right though. Games are always looking at the camera and addressing the player, but they’re only giving instructions or flavour. These three are the best I can remember at making you feel part of the story simply by being the player.

Kit,

+1 for Inscryption. I started playing it blind because I saw it was a card battler. The twist left my jaw on the floor.

Yermaw,

Yeah I feel you there. Just turned up on gamepass and I thought it might be as good as slay the spire. Which it isn’t. When I finally completed the game only to find out it was only act one and it started doing it’s thing it blew me away.

Around the same as the Steam Deck when portable, but with access to significantly better upscaling.

Such a shame FSR looks so terrible, the Steam Deck would otherwise hold up much better against it.

I’m still not going to buy one and only use my Deck though.

echodot,

So there really is no excuse for the new Pokemon games to look so terrible.

bungle_in_the_jungle,

There never was a good excuse other than greed and the fact that everyone keeps blindly throwing their money at them anyway.

A bit of topic, but it pains me to see how powerful high end phones got. Like most people just use them to text and scroll social media. Why do people spend that much money?!

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Who doesn’t want to spend £50+ a month to doom scroll…

tobz619,

If anything, it makes me wonder why we don’t have more small dedicated handheld gaming devices that aren’t phones or pseudocomputers and don’t cost a bomb.

Like a £220 PSP/GBA/DS-like device with decent first-party support would be really nice for me imo

gradual,

Because we already have phones.

The solution is to release games for phones that require a controller, but most companies aren’t willing to be the first ones to do it.

7arakun,

The Switch Lite is exactly this. $200 handheld that runs first party games. There are android handhelds like the Retroid pocket 5 as well.

A Steam Deck Lite would be incredible. Small, cheap, linux-based, and powerful enough to run indie games and some light 3D. I think that form factor basically needs an arm cpu though.

gradual,

Why do people spend that much money?!

Conditioning. They have more money so they spend it proportionally.

I really got to try Daggerfall, some of the mods radically improve the coherence and depth of the open world.

For some reason, I really like the graphicl style (probably nostalgia).

Wizard_Pope,
@Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world avatar

The style also kinda has a charm to it.

People who buy a Switch 2 are not the same people who care about this stuff.

Keith Ballard is excellent for puzzle games - and, well, most other game types that show up there. He’s my personal favorite.

Daggerfall is my favorite Elder Scrolls game and what the community has done for it is amazing. A lot of people hate the dungeon design but honestly its my favorite part. I love how mazelike they are and I have become very good at navigating them. The immersion is good too if you can wrap your head around it. Most quests having a deadline really makes you question whether or not you can fit that 8 hour rest in. Caught a disease from a rat? You wont know it until later when you start feeling too sick to travel. Cursed with lycanthropy? Better get out of town when the full moon hits. I wish they had stuck to this formula for elder scrolls games but as others in the fanbase have pointed out, these mechanics have been thrown out in favor of attracting a broader audience which sucks but I understand

I love how my boy 750ti is in there. My first real gpu and my favorite because it was a time when NVIDIA was showing interest in getting the most bang out of lower power draw. That went out the window
