Can we do a stop killing children now?

conartistpanda,

But they yummy

mholiv,

Because saving video games and stopping the killing of children are mutually exclusive???

courval,

I didn’t say they were. They are particularly useful for “hiding our heads” and forget about the shitty world. They play a big roll keeping me sane and I respect the art very much. I would just like to see the same kind of effort put into to it.

mholiv,

After you edited it, it is more clear now. You should have phrased it that way to begin with.

courval,

Didn’t edited mate but glad you read it positively.

SomethingBurger,

This is a EU initiative but you’re free to create one in the US.

TachyonTele, do games w The EU initiative for Stop Killing Games has reached the goal of 1 million signatures!!

That's great and all, but this needs to stop being spammed everywhere. Theres two of these posts in games alone.

Crosspost, people. That's what is there for.

If you’re in Game Mode you can click the cog button, go to Compatibility and select a proton version. This may help

Edit: you may also need to make sure you have Steam Play enabled. I believe the latest system update enables this by default.

caut_R,

Manually enabling a proton version did the trick, I was able to download it after! That was a way simpler fix than I anticipated, I wonder why the Deck behaves like this for this game only (from my library at least).

In any case, thanks a lot!

Hadriscus, do games w Yep, I actually own 7,255 games on Steam. I’ve played 23% of my library. I regret nothing.

Nice. Life is short, play games

Hadriscus,

buy, rent, pirate, whatever floats your boat

sugar_in_your_tea,

No, the Steam life is not to play games, but to buy them.

linrilang, do games w Yep, I actually own 7,255 games on Steam. I’ve played 23% of my library. I regret nothing.

23% played? That’s basically 100% by Steam standards. You’ve officially made it.

sugar_in_your_tea,

Yeah, I have far fewer games and have played a lower percent of the ones I have. There are just so many bundles that have one or two games I do want and I just add the rest to my library.

r00ty, do games w The EU initiative for Stop Killing Games has reached the goal of 1 million signatures!!

It's good to see. The UK one is still ticking upward too (133.5k/100k). It's been an impressive last minute push.

Now, we wait and see I guess. I expect nothing useful to come from the UK one, but at least we force them to respond again. Even if it is the same response.

The EU one, I really do hope something comes of it.

Duamerthrax, do games w The UK Stop Killing Games petition has reached 100.000 signatures

Keep pushing. There are probably people using VPNs to sign the petition and those will get purged. Either from idiots who don’t know better or AAA studios trying to get people to stop now that it’s reached the goal. This is true for both the UK and EU petitions.

janNatan, do games w Yep, I actually own 7,255 games on Steam. I’ve played 23% of my library. I regret nothing.

I’m curious, what’s your highest play time on a game? Or maybe top 3 even.

atomicpoet,

Sure, here’s my top three by hours spent:

  1. Spelunky - 92.2 hours
  2. Legends of Solitaire: Curse of the Dragons - 58.9 hours
  3. Civilization V - 50.2 hours

About my lowest threshold for success is that this at least makes disclosures about what you’re buying more prominent and restricts the ability for software licenses to just alter the deal and pray that they don’t alter them further. Even better disclosures would make the raw deal you’re getting become more poisonous before the point of sale. Especially as an American, I’m going to have wait a few years after any legislation goes through before I can trust online multiplayer games again.

mohab, do games w Yep, I actually own 7,255 games on Steam. I’ve played 23% of my library. I regret nothing.

Why do I play all these games? Because it's important that they're played.

Well, evidently not since you're actively ignoring about 77% of them 😂 And who boasts about their hyperconsumerism on fucking Lemmy of all platforms 😂

atomicpoet,

Wrong. Not ignored—not played yet.

Dyskolos,

Come on, none of us will ever play all their games. I’d bet around 2000 of my games on steam are some free keys or other incredibly cheap shit I wouldn’t touch with a 10m-pole. If I’d ever find them again in the library, that is.

But I admire your positivity and optimism 😁

atomicpoet,

Hey, I’ve played every game I purchased between 2012-15.

Dyskolos,

Hmm sounds suspiciously like one of those sane people who buy a game and then have thousands of hours of fun with it. Get outta here 😁

Dyskolos,

Playing for an hour to see how shitty it is? Or actually bought to enjoy for manymany hours, as intended? Thought so 😁 For us peeps with way more than a few k games, 20% actually been played would be already the big numbers I’d guess.

atomicpoet,

Hey, most games are not meant to be played for thousands of hours. And actually, most games I own can be completed in less than 100 hours. Especially if they’re not RPGs. Then there’s arcade games which are often not meant to be completed at all.

But then again, I’ve already said I’m not a completionist. I only complete games if they’re compelling enough to complete.

BurgerBaron,
@BurgerBaron@piefed.social avatar

My completion rate is obviously much lower, but I've played at least two hours of 628/788 games in my 19 year old Steam account. I guess I'm a bit pickier with accepting freebies or buying on sales.

That is the result of a deliberate effort. Two year long project to play at least 2 hours of every game in my backlog minimum before I can uninstall it. Until there's nothing let but the dregs. A YouTuber inspired me, except he had a time limit deadline for the video.

Backlog was 258 games, now 160. Really there's about 30 left worth at least looking at. A lot of old crap from the very first Steam sale in there.

Most recent from the backlog was Alpha Protocol with some pcgamingwiki fixes. Yep that's been sitting in there a long long time. Loved it so much I finished it!

Dyskolos,

Definately one of the more wiser purchase-guys :-) I went a lil nuts when inventory-gifts were a thing. You know, doing what the corporations all do: Exploit globalism to my advantage. But for many years I rarey buy anything anymore, only if i REALLY intend to play it. I’m old, not wise :-)

Essence_of_Meh,
@Essence_of_Meh@lemmy.world avatar

After Ross announced the campaign is dead a bunch of YouTubers (and media, I think?) picked up the topic and started spreading the word far and wide. This is the result.

mnemonicmonkeys, (edited )

Here’s what bugs me: Why didn’t channels like GamerNexus and LTT cover the petition until after Louis declared it dead?

Essence_of_Meh,
@Essence_of_Meh@lemmy.world avatar

That’s actually one of the most annoying parts about the whole thing. SKG campaign has been running for what, a year now? Barely anyone with an audience cared enough to even look into it, let alone spread the news. Now that things came close to failing suddenly everyone thinks it’s an important topic and scrambled to make videos/posts/whatever. I’d like to give them the benefit of the doubt but I just don’t have that in me any more…
We could’ve been in so much better place with awareness, petitions and general sentiment if people in the industry actually cared about these things from the start.

Better late than never, I guess. I just hope there’s enough time to push through the EU petition as well.

sp3ctr4l, (edited )

Well, there’s at least two aspects here:

Fucking Thor, PirateSoftware.

Up untill Ross posted his ‘SKG is dead’ video… Thor had by far gotten the most views of anyone with a video discussing SKG.

And Thor… well, he was anti-SKG, and had been spreading a bunch of objectively false bullshit about it, actual FUDD.

So… about half of Ross’s video was dedicated to pointing out how Thor was wildly misunderstanding things, and fairly graciously and politely trying to correct these misconceptions.

So here’s the two sort of things at play I see, in terms of 'why sudden surge now?'

  1. Thor was just shown to be objectively, factually wrong. Thus, the immediate effect of this would be to reiterate and clarify and reinforce with more specificity what SKG actually is… and that could directly convince people to give a damn, to believe in Ross’s SKG over Thor’s misunderstandings and mischaracterizations.

But uh, almost certainly much, much more relevant:

  1. Ross doing (1) created an absolute drama shit storm via the way youtube works now… which is very much just drama mongers and commentators reporting on e-drama. (1) kicked off an actual, organic, honest to god, truly viral explosion of many, many people who’d basically never heard of any of this before, mostly dogpiling on Thor for being such a disingenuous, egotistical asshole and liar, but also of course encouraging people to sign the SKG petition.

This kind of absurd, out of nowhere explosion of popularity of some topic, idea, meme, whatever, that spreads from person to person to person, from the ground up instead of top down… this is what something going ‘viral’ originally meant in the earlier days of the internet, 15 to 20 ish years ago.

You know, it spreads, from host to host, like a pandemic outbreak, shockingly rapidly.

These days we have everything hypermanaged by algorithms that silo you into your own content niche… and this was an exceptional enough of an event that it broke containment.

Videos like … this entire topic/event/story… used to be what the YouTube trending tab looked like… just totally random shit that for whatever reason, a bunch of people organically shared with each other, back when the algos were much, much more primitive.

Anyway… extremely ironically, a whole lot of the viral nature of this is due to Thor being just such an astoundingly massive piece of shit liar and manipulator.

He has a whole entire history of being astoundingly cocky, arrogant, dishonest, deceptive, intellectually inconsistent, rhetorically manipulative, etc, and it is genuienly… just astounding, i dont know what other word to use, to go through every single shitty thing Thor has done or said, not only in regards to SKG, but many, many other things Thor has done.

Basically, Thor is now a lolcow, a perfect person to milk by making content criticizing him, because he really is that much of an unbelievable, outrageuous idiot asshole.

sp3ctr4l,

This is fucking bonkers.

I ran the math a few days ago, before this absolutely blew the fuck up, and I came to:

We’d need 11k sigs per day until July 31st.

… We’re now apparently at more than double that and climbing exponentially.

Ho Lee Shit.

God DAMN has it been a while since I’ve seen something go actually, truly, organically viral.

ipkpjersi,

I’m just worried some of them are botted, especially now that we’re less than 100k away from 1m.

sp3ctr4l,

I mean, its not technically completely impossible, but the vast majority of EU countries require a valid name, id, address, etc, its usually a pretty dumb idea to bot spam an official government web portal, and I’m sure there will be a review process after July 31.

Also… its not like it hits a million and then just no one else can sign up to it anymore.

It’ll stay open till the end of the month, could easily breach a million, maybe even two million if anything like this insane rate keeps up.

Klear,

No need to do the math, this site has you covered: stopkillinggamestracker.pages.dev

Right now we need 1669 per day remaining, though that number is probably going ot be smaller by the time you click the link.

Worth noting that the actual target is somewhere above one million, since there’s probably some invalid signatures mixed in and the initiative needs a million even after these get removed. Still, it’s looking really good.
