dQw4w9WgXcQ, do gaming w Let's discuss: LEGO Games

I used to love Lego Racers. I knew all the tracks and shortcuts, and I knew exactly how to make my favorite racing car. I remember playing the game at home as well as at my friends’ houses, and I always made the same car design, as I was convinced it was the fastest. What a great game!

They released a new one … It’s good but it’s also still not great. Like Lego could easily have a really cool Mario Kart competitor if they put the effort into it that Nintendo does … but they don’t.

dQw4w9WgXcQ,

It’s 100% nostalgia, and I hard refuse to ever touch that game again. I’m sure it’s terrible compared to my standards for games now. But the memories remain, and that’s fine.

@Dark_Arc@social.packetloss.gg avatar

I think if you look back at the old Mario Karts and look at the success Lego has had with their Lego movies … Lego could come out swinging with a pretty cool cart racer if they really put the effort into it.

Lego Indiana Jones as an example could be an updated spin on/foundation for the dinosaur isle.

I have a soft Spot for Lego Land (A game where you build a amusement Park for Lego people). But the mission where aliens steal your buildings I still hate.

Lego racers was amazing, but the last box just cheated straight up lol

Lego racers 2 was shit on a lot, but it was my first open world game and I played the shit out of it lol. Being able to drive to different biomes was very cool.

Chewy7324, do gaming w Let's discuss: LEGO Games

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga was the first game I played. So great that I even bought it on disk, to buy it again on Steam.

In general LEGO games are fun and through collaboration with other IP’s, there’s so many different awesome games. Many of them quite cheap in sales.

darkmorsa, do gaming w Let's discuss: Ori

I love the series. And looking forward to their next game coming soon.

ohto, do gaming w Let's discuss: Ori

Ori is my favorite Metroidvania series by far, and I love Metroidvanias. The most incredible feat is that the second installment actually surpassed the first. The first Ori was amazing. It was stunningly beautiful, had a compelling story, and the gameplay mechanics were fantastic.

For Ori 2 I would have been happy with more of the same. They didn’t have to try to reinvent anything, and yet they did in Wisps. Every tweak they made was for the better. The interface/mechanics changes rounded off rough edges I didn’t even realize were there. The story remained engaging and touching, and it had a real arc. And the graphics are even more stunning. I remember playing Wisps for the first time and just standing still and being amazed at the graphics. My character was standing still, and yet the entire screen was alive with movement. I was standing on a branch, and the branch was slowly bouncing with my weight. The leaves were gently blowing in the wind. Blades of grass were swaying. It was incredible.

The two Ori games are some of the best games of any genre I’ve ever played. Big fan, and I’m excited by that studio’s next game.

Why it's so expensive in Poland, they are not even close to salary in Norway or Swiss.

Kissaki, do gaming w Let's discuss: Platformers

I love platformers. For 2d, I usually prefer action platformers over pure platforming. So, let’s see what comes to mind.

You gamers HAVE to play https://store.steampowered.com/app/1568400/Sheepy_A_Short_Adventure/. It’s free and has an exceptional atmosphere.

I started with what I had fond memories of and came to mind, but of course, I went to my steam library, and looked through games tagged platformer. And now I’m wondering if I should also link my reviews of the titles, specifically the most interesting ones. Either way, the list of fond memories / very positives became too long for one list, so it’s split by category now.

3d ego platformers

  • A Story About My Uncle, left a lasting impact on me back then as a very good if not exceptional title
  • Portal
  • Hot Lava, great, pure 3d platformer, a lot of of quality content
  • Supraland, 3d puzzle and action platformer

3d 3rd-person platformers

  • New Super Lucky’s Tale, a great 3d platformer
  • A Hat in Time, a great 3d platformer, with cute characters, good humor
  • RiME, I remember I wrote a very positive review about RiME
  • A Short Hike, great
  • Yooka-Laylee

2d platformers

  • Sheepy: A Short Adventure, free, exceptional atmosphere
  • Ori, with its great atmosphere and visuals
  • Webbed, very cute, great theming, playing as a spider
  • Yoku’s Island Express, great mixing of pinball and platformer, in a great setting
  • Spiritfarer, great atmosphere
  • Battleblock Theater, great absurd humor
  • Super Meat Boy, ok, this has been a long time ago, but it was incredibly fluid and fast, with a ton of content
  • Dustforce DX
  • Jubilee, I played this on my Steam Deck quite a bit (unfortunately no save sync)
  • Trine, for its great physics approach and narrated humorous storytelling
  • Wunderling DX, an “auto-runner platformer”, quite interesting, well polished, so try to for something different
  • Braid, I don’t actually know if it holds up today, it’s been so long ago

I’d love to hear your opinions on

  • A Highland Song, deep lore, great atmosphere - I felt a bit lost though, or wasn’t captivated beyond that, and beyond one run
  • Treasures of Aegean, another “roguelite” platformer, with interesting progression and discovery - still, I found it well made, but ultimately not personally captivating, maybe because of the disorganized nature [of re-runs and timeloop-crossing story]
  • Sable, only partially platformer, and not the best quality overall, but great atmosphere, exploration, and platforming discovery
  • Verlet Swing
  • Viking Hiking
  • Grow Home

Have you tried Penny’s Big Breakaway yet? Been eyeing it and based on your list here, seems right up your alley.

Kissaki,

I have not, but it’s in my library! :D

toxicbubble420,

Grow Home is amazing, I need a stronger PC for the sequel Grow Up

Kissaki,

I forgot there was a sequel. At least I think I’ve seen it before.

Grow Up is currently 75% off on Steam. Very positive ratings, and watching this ign review, seems like a decent iteration with enough fresh content. I think I will buy it 🤔 and go climbing again :D

DesolateMood, do gaming w Let's discuss: Uplifting Games

I’m gonna go with Forza (Assetto Corsa also works to a lesser extent). Sure the focus of the game is on racing, but it can be extremely relaxing to hop into any car you want from any era and just take a cruise and look at the scenery

HER0,
@HER0@beehaw.org avatar

Sometimes I chill after work by driving around the Nurburgring in a touring car in Automobilista 2.

Alternately, for more driving games:

  1. Art of Rally has a free roam mode, which is pretty chill.
  2. I’ve been playing Sledders, a snowmobile game. It is super early in early access, but it can be fun to just roam around (and learn how to drive a snowmobile).
N00b22,

I like Forza, but have caution with the online players. Most of them love ramming people

DesolateMood,

I’m well aware. I enjoy the game all the same. Besides, I think people overstate how bad rammers are. Yeah it happens sometimes, but most people want the same thing you do: a clean race

Vilian, do gaming w Let's discuss: Uplifting Games

I’m playing factorio with my friends two days straight and we plan to keep playing, it was years since I could play for so long with them, normally I start to fell bored and hang up, but i’m 14 hours in and stil want to play more!

cows_are_underrated,

Factorio is great. I don’t think Theres another game that sucked up so many hours so quick. I absolutely love it. It takes a shit load of time(my first world took 40 hours and didnt complete the game). I’m now starting a new world because of space age, and already have a lot of plans on how to improve my world to male it better(starting with currently building a blueprint for a mall and rushing to robots in order to not being forced to build everything by hand). Also, disabling biters is a very good thing to do. I don’t want to focus on fighting biters. I just want to see the factory grow.
