Borkingheck, do games w EA Sports has delisted its FIFA back catalogue from digital storefronts

How does pirating fifa go given much of the appeal is online play and that card aspext of the game?

HidingCat,

Probably not, and also why the delisting might not be that big a deal. The whales were always going to get the newest version anyway.

baatliwala,

Or just ignore everything and play career mode if you have any self respect.

XTornado,

The security was shit on some editions. There was one,that you could close the prompt for CD key in a way and just play online with a pirated copy.

Plus idk I haven’t played a lot but to me single player against the machines was enjoyable, well tl be fair I didn’t have much people to play with plus I am terrible at it so maybe that’s why.

This company is the worst

halcyoncmdr,
@halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world avatar

It’s licensing terms. FIFA was asking for double its $150 million licensing fee to allow Electronic Arts to continue using its name.

FIFA doubling the license cost is clearly bullshit. EA has decided that the FIFA brand in their game is not worth $300 Million, and the existing license requires them to discontinue sales once the license expires.

Can’t really blame EA for saving $300 Million for something that doesn’t really matter, especially when it used to cost half that. This 100% is FIFA being greedy, as usual.

dinckelman,

At the end of the day, both FIFA and EA are horrible companies. No one should be giving them any money whatsoever.

The reality of things is that we all know that EA will launch their own brand, publish the re-badged FIFA titles under it, and then continue farming mtx money from people, who have no self-control

roguetrick,

I was just hoping for more cyberpunk style corporate warfare. I mean a gambling company and a corrupt monopoly decide to fight? Where are the bombings of corporate headquarters? You can't tell me they can't recruit a bunch of mercs to try and save them that 150 million.

50gp,

EA is just a gaming company releasing yearly mtx shitboxes for whales while FIFA is global level corruption fuckfest with actual influence

These are not comparable

cryptiod137,

Yeah, EA doesn’t (openly) condone the use of slave labor

criticon,

It would matter more if PES/WE were still popular. Those games were superior to FIFA for many iterations but the lack of official clubs and players was a big barrier of every for most

sigmaklimgrindset,

Man, bear with me as I’m about sound like an absolute corporate cuck but I interned at EA during my undergrad and had a really positive experience. The work-life balance was probably the best I’ve experienced in a corporate setting.

I still won’t buy their games due to shitty monetization practices, but at least some of the profits (for the EA office I worked at) are actually funnelled into their employee’s compensation. Can’t really say that for FIFA’s oil bribes.

dinckelman,

Well, at least that’s good to hear. Glad the workers are treated well, but I’m with you otherwise. I won’t be spending any money on their titles

Zeth0s,

I despise ea as everyone, but this is the only time EA is right tbf.

atlasraven31, (edited ) do games w EA Sports has delisted its FIFA back catalogue from digital storefronts

Oh, do what you want 'cause a pirate is free. You are a Pirate 🦜.

forgotaboutlaye,

Is there any ranking of 'most pirated game' tracked by leechers accross to top indexes?

I remember FIFA being the first thing everyone pirated when I lived in the dorms in University.

echodot,

The most pirated game is probably Minecraft because people are mad.

I think I slung £6 at them about 400 years ago and I still have access to the game and get all the updates, just doesn’t seem worth the effort.

narc0tic_bird,

Jup. If you purchased the alpha version back then for $10 (probably the £6 you paid) you even got the later Bedrock version for free.

Everyone: “Please just give us a 60fps mode.”

Rockstar: “What about…the opposite of that?”

ivanafterall,

@beefcat@lemmy.world avatar

how in the hell would you get RDR2 to run at 60 FPS on the Switch?

csfirecracker,

We wanted 60fps mode for other systems, but a switch port is most definitely going to be the opposite of a 60fps mode was the point I think.

GuStJaR,

You won’t. That’s the point.

XTornado,

I am not even sure about 30… but there are miracles out there.

I would expect it to be for the new switch if anything, which is closer than ever.

toxicbubble,

that’s the sarcasm

fuggadihere,

I think deadlines matter more to Rockstar than 60 frames per sec.

Also, the switch is a bit more finicky to develop too due to memory limitations. At least compared to the competition 😢

Naatan, do games w Cal Kestis actor confirms Star Wars Jedi 3 during Comic Con panel

I can’t wait to try out part 3 for 2 hours before deciding this still isn’t for me.

I want a good and immersive Jedi game so bad. These games just feel like you’re in an amusement park that’s channelling the game you want but not really trying to deliver it, it’s just a vehicle to get to the next bouncy mushroom or conveniently placed wall jump.

EeeDawg101, do games w Cal Kestis actor confirms Star Wars Jedi 3 during Comic Con panel

Good! Love the games. I just hope on the third one they actually finish developing the game before release.

Jedi Survivor just finally got finished after releasing 5 months ago. What I mean is they just released an update that makes performance mode run really well. Prior to this update, it ran horribly. So much so that despite buying on day one, I flat out refused to play it until it got fixed. And thank goodness it did because it’s a wonderful game and I’m really enjoying it.

derin,
@derin@lemmy.beru.co avatar

Let’s not forget how the bounty hunter missions were completely broken, to the point that you couldn’t even start the quest line at any point in the game. I beat the whole game wondering “what the fuck is that big area in the pause menu that’s still locked?”

Also, you still can’t unlock the third garden on Pyloon’s roof in some saves (mainly mine).

I couldn’t give less of a shit about performance bugs, but the fact that core content in the game is still locked because of fucking trigger bugs is mind bogglingly embarrassing.

Still loved the game, though - my favorite game of 2023 (not saying it was the best of 2023, I just really liked this one).

smallaubergine, (edited ) do games w Cal Kestis actor confirms Star Wars Jedi 3 during Comic Con panel

I found Cal Kestis to be the most generic sounding and looking Star wars character. The games are fun but I found myself uninterested in him as a character

InEnduringGrowStrong,
@InEnduringGrowStrong@sh.itjust.works avatar

I agree with you, he’s kind of a blank slate.
I think that works for a video game though.

It’s also refreshingly NOT the chosen one or blood line thing that’s a bit overdone in Star Wars.
(Crossing my fingers he’s not secretly a long lost Skywalker, Palpatine or Kenobi relative)

Many stories introduce the protagonist in their prime, or when they’re at their most interesting, then eventually release an origin story.
The first game felt like an origin story for a dude I didn’t know. (Haven’t played the second game yet)

My guess (hope) is he’ll feel more interesting as he gets more exposure and character development as games come out and we kinda get to see him grow as we play.

smallaubergine,

Yeah I get what you're saying about him being a blank slate. I guess I'm just tired of generic white dudes as being the definition of blank slate. I hope he does get more interesting, I found the other characters far more fun to follow than Cal

InEnduringGrowStrong,
@InEnduringGrowStrong@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yea for sure, he could have been a blank slate without being as bland or generic. By that I absolutely don’t mean to imply the actor is any of these things, but that they played it safe in character design.
Expecially in a universe of endless aliens.
It’s not even a choice that has to be limited between our own human heritages.

I vote Ewok Jedi myself.

JackDark, do games w Interview: Capcom explains why Dragon’s Dogma 2 has taken so long

First and foremost, if Itsuno-san doesn’t have time to be the director of the game, it can’t really get made. So having an opportunity to have him spend the time he needed on the game and being able to bring together the other resources needed, such as a large team to work on a game with this scope, just took some years for that all to really fit together. And then once it did, we got started.

7112, do games w Interview: Capcom explains why Dragon’s Dogma 2 has taken so long

Itsuno sounds like such a simple and nice dude. He doesn’t hype.

Glad to hear that the gameplay is basically the same. Surprised about the GTAV inspiration.

Hopefully game developers stick to their guns and start migrating future projects and training to other engines like Godot. They played their hand once I wouldnt trust them to not screw you in the future

Exaggeration207,

Re-Logic (Terraria’s developers) have already gone on record saying, "even if Unity were to recant their policy and statements, the destruction of trust is not so easily repaired.” That’s the stance I think every developer should be taking. Unless you have a Unity game that can be released by the end of the year, all devs need to seriously consider switching engines.

FaeDrifter,

Proprietary and Closed Source software should never be trusted.

darkfiremp3,

And when the code starts open source if they do a move like that (see Elasticsearch vs Opensearch, or Terraform vs OpenTF) then the community can fork it!

cook_pass_babtridge,

I love the idea of an open source engine becoming the industry standard, even if just for indie titles. Blender is a great success story and shows that FOSS can compete with industry standard creative software.

anteaters,
@anteaters@feddit.de avatar

IIRC Godot’s reduzio mentioned at GDC there was considerable interest from various publishers and developers in building their own engines ontop of Godot.
