They could be preparing for an announcement. This would give time for the press to do write ups ahead of time. If this is true there must be some kind of NDA/embargo so we won’t know anything until after a potential announcement.
If that was the case though, I would have expected them to have announced it already 🤔. Nintendo doesn’t strike me as the kind of company to show their hardware to the press long ahead of announcement.
Earlier, multiple sources had indicated that Xbox is looking to foray into third party development, with ports of several first party titles rumored to arrive on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2
So I guess they know more about the next Switch console than the rest of us.
They tried for like a decade before finally giving up. Microsoft has learned a lot of lessons while trying to work on their gaming arm, and some of them have actually stuck. I would expect titles to be sold on Steam until Phil Spencer retires.
Their games were rough around the edges but sure as hell showed a lot of passion. The lore and attention to detail that went into their worlds were unparalleled, especially in the open world genre where lots of content is just generic copy-pasted fetch quests or mindlessly following the Ubisoft formula.
Because it would be hilarious to see all the platforms say fuck it and ban Unity games over this ridiculous cash grab they're very obviously not entitled to.
Unity is so ubiquitous that it would have unimaginable consequences.
For example, 90% of vr games are made in Unity. So that's one segment of gaming completely wiped off the map.
Things are not much better in desktop and mobile gaming either, as Unity has close to 50% market share.
It would be a literal Thanos snap.
I never finished the first Elex (the combat was way too unforgiving imo; it took me like 5 minutes just to kill one of those river raptor looking things) but I loved the trailer for Elex 2. I thought it went really hard.
yeah, for me the games after Risen 1 were pretty meh for me. But the Gothic series was part of my childhood, with Gothic 1 being my first ever RPG. (probably one of the best games to start with)
You’re acting like this reflects badly on the console makers when a) they haven’t confirmed they are on board for this and might instead end up being the ones to kill it, and b) if they were on board for this, they still wouldn’t be the bad guys, they’d be helping out devs on their platforms.
This specific comment by them doesn’t address the PC market directly (though MS is also on PC with game pass and a lot of Sony games are ported to PC these days), but it will either be similar or worse, depending on whether they want to try this with valve, epic, and other PC publishers.
There’s a lot of things it affects. But lets stick with the self serving perspective of your question “How does this affect* me buying discounted games”. You personally? Not much, the impact is relatively tame… for now. An aspect that you failing to consider is that devs could raise price of games to offset the cost of the Unity price model change. Sure you could wait for a discount. Safe to say we all appreciate a good discount every now and again. But I encourage you think about that “one” game on your wishlist “If it was just 20% less then I would buy it” But that 20% doesn’t end up happening because of the fact that even during this hypothetical sale the devs are still trying to offset the Unity cost. Additionally you failing to consider is that Unity is an incredibly popular starting point for many new devs because of the tooling it has available, many popular titles were started by these indie devs. Games that wouldn’t ever have been created because those people wouldn’t have ever gotten started if they didn’t use Unity.
I don’t buy any game until it’s at least 50% off via isthereanydeal. Ever. Tons of games I might like have sat on my waitlist for years. Eventually I’ll torrent it they never come down.
