I got scammed by every game I was a backer of, will prob never do that again, that money would’ve been better spent on anything else back then, but prob wouldve just gone to bags and bars
Lol, there was a public playtest 2 days ago. They promised a mount and there were so many players stuck in queue. Originally they did not plan to reward the players in queue but changed their mind during the playtest. And now there probably won’t even be a game.
Oof. I remember my friend hyping it up when the Kickstarter launched in 2017… I’m aching for a new MMORPG but it’s so unfortunate all the new ones either come out half-baked or flop completely.
Not surprised. I had a friend who was all hyped up about this years ago and I didn’t want to tell him then that it looked like pipe dream that was never going to pan out.
The MMORPG genre is dead, you have the big existing titles that exist simply because they’re too big to fail or already have an entrenched user base, but I just can’t see a new release - especially a new IP - breaking into the market.
I’d say a big part of that is that no major player in the video game industry is still interested in investing long-term into building something. Games like FFXIV started out with huge losses, and they kept with it. Any worthwhile MMO is going to have falterings like that at some point in its life, and they’d need investors that can actually stay calm about that. In today’s markets, where they expect development time to be something like 1-2 years for something that must follow every monetizing trend (battle pass, loot boxes, etc) it’s extremely unlikely. It’s probably not consumer expectations making it impossible.
Well, part of why they want to follow the latest monetisation trends is that the idea of a subscription-based game is a much harder sell these days than it was 20 years ago. The landscape is just different.
Ashes of the Rug-Pull it looks like. Released on Steam less than 2 months ago. Seems like they just waited long enough so nobody who bought in can refund it.
I mean, by his very limited statement it seems like they had the best intentions? The board just called their bluff and said ‘fuck you’ and fired everyone.
How many were laid off? Did they hire another people maybe? I would be careful with premature conclusions based on this single event. It would be hilarious if those laid off people go to work on Overwatch…
the going theory is that this is effectively the western division of NetEase getting axed because they’re not important enough and “cost too much” to keep around
resetERA is an unusual source for this, but the OP is just direct screencaps off of LinkedIn of people saying they were laid off, and it’s hard to get more definitive than that in terms of sourcing
Hope whenever tf HL3 eventually comes out (hopeful I know) they cns emulate his style well at least. That super sleek industrial look is a bit part of the style of both Dishonored and HL that I love
