(Judero is actually an amazing game and a work of art. Go play it, if you like the idea of a game made fully in clay + spare pieces laying around the creator’s house)
I got laid off 3 months after I launched a modern website to replace my former company’s old platform that none of their other developers wanted to work with.
I did exactly what they told me, something they wanted for years and years, and then I got laid off as a thanks instead of a bonus.
lol
Though I ended up getting a job that pays 30% more so I guess it ended up okay.
Somewhat typical for type of work that has a clear end in sight. And they typically never tell about the project-based plans in mind. Sorry you had to go through this.
Had something like that when I automated stuff for a small company.
It wasn’t a clear end in sight, there was still lots of content and systems that needed to be ported over to the new system, a new payment system to be integrated, and other new features they needed. They had two developers who were familiar with the new website, me and another dev. I did kind of suspect that something like this was possible, but I didn’t think they would be dumb enough to actually do it. It turns out, they were dumb enough to do it.
They were just really cheap, and I was most likely their highest paid developer on my team, and myself and another dev were replaced by friends of manager that laid me off.
After that manager laid me off, I asked for a reference or a letter of recommendation, and was ghosted entirely. It happens.
If you dig you can find this on Amazon. I’ve been buying from Amazon since 1995 and the last time I looked my purchases were somewhere around $260,000. And that was before covid.
Edit: This seems to be how to do it for Amazon: www.amazon.com/hz/privacy-central/…/preview.html - My data hasn’t come through yet so I don’t know how difficult it is to get the sum of all orders/refunds.
I had to remember that I bought an Index and Steam Deck on Steam so that has definitely inflated the amount I’ve spent compared to the 3rd party valuation lol
No Mercy included “incest,” “blackmail,” and “unavoidable non-consensual sex,” according to its Steam page, which also promised players the opportunity to become “every woman’s worst nightmare” and “never take ‘no’ for an answer.”
This doesn’t bode well for Pale Carnations making it onto Steam.
Good. Honestly most games in the sex space are pretty bad for both consent and treating the characters like actual people.
The dialogue is pretty unrealistic too.
The only good one we have come across so far is Cute Demon Crashers. It is heavily about consent and the writing isn’t that bad either. True, it’s not going to be ‘realistic’ in terms of character models nor have fully fleshed out sex scenes but since most in that genre seem to be terrible in general perhaps that is a good thing.
I can do them, but honestly I would prefer to have played through many without such a mainstay of games. It just often gets in the way of what I am really there for: the story. Plus it’s becoming more and more gruesome.
I think though killing and rape are not exactly the same. Women are historically treated very poorly in game spaces, both in games and outside of them. This kind of thing just adds to it and honestly makes me question what the developers are really like.
As someone else said “check whether there are women in the developer’s dungeon”.
I’m not sure I’d wonder any more about those developers than anyone else.
Without getting into TMI I very much enjoy non consent fantasy to the point where I had a CNC relationship with my wife for the first five years. And two things I’ve learned about myself are: I’m not physically capable of even play rape, and that having the power was much more fun and exciting than exercising the power.
So to me it feels perfectly normal to be aroused by fantasy rape but not at all by the manifestation of it. I’m sure it’s not mainstream or anything, and there are a lot of people out there, like Andrew Tate, who are exactly what they say they are.
I think it’s fine to look into it and see which is the case, but I personally wouldn’t expect to find any girls in basements who aren’t there consensually based on the content of their games.
