Any suggestions? I love brotato, but have struggled to find others I like.

Ones I haven’t liked: Soul stone survivors, death must die, nordic ashes.

Twin stick shooters/bullet hell games are different though.

And I found enter the Gungeon before Nuclear Throne, and somehow was always drawn back to Gungeon. Blazing beaks was fun though.

Depends on the definition of cheating. Here are a couple of ways in which I “cheat”:

I didn’t have the skill to progress beyond 4BC in Dead Cells, so I downloaded someone else’s save file with all items unlocked.

If I hit a wall in Silksong to the point that it starts to put me off the game, then I look up a walkthrough to see where the nearest undiscovered bench is or where to fine the thing I’m looking for.

For any game if I end too frustrated by a boss, I’ll watch a YouTube video to learn the attack patterns and avoid repeatedly dying to learn them. This is especially true for roguelites where I may have to cross 3 levels to get to a possible chance at a boss, and then get killed.

In FTL I used to copy out the save files to allow me to save scum if I died. The game is a roguelite and doesn’t allow loading saves in case of mistakes of death…so this is a workaround to save scum.

Gamepad for Linux Gaming?

I’ve got a small backlog of games on my laptop (running Arch Linux with KDE) through Lutris. I usually play with a keyboard and a mouse, but since I sit pretty close to my screen (ik bad habit), it starts getting uncomfortable after a while. So I’ve been thinking about picking up a gamepad for some more relaxed, couch style...

Gamesir Cyclone 2 has been such a premium experience. Clicky nice feeling buttons, hall effect joysticks with smooth rims, shoulder buttons can be set to hair triggers, Bluetooth or dongle, metal charging stand, customisable back buttons. It’s been such a luxury gaming experience at a relatively budget price (currently going for £48).

Sliced off the tip of my thumb, what are some good one handed games?

Long story short, I was trying to make some pork buns and it ended with the tip of my thumb being sliced off, after hospital visit and six stitches and back. But I’m kind of bored out of my mind. Can’t do the steam deck. Can’t do really anything with a controller. I have a large library of games, most of which I haven’t...

Anything in this genre. Brotato and Deep Rock Galactic Survivor are great.

Switch games emulated on the Retroid Pocket 5 have been amazing. A pocketable console with full Switch 1 games and an amazing screen. It’s been such a good purchase.

cRazi_man,
@cRazi_man@europe.pub avatar

It’s been able to play everything I throw at it. There can be minor slow down initially while it’s compiling shaders sometimes. The Retroid Pocket 6 is open for pre-orders now and that’s going to easily be able to play all Switch and many modern PC game too. Worth having a look out anyone is interested, especially now that Steam games work with cloud save game sync. The Steam Deck could hardly be taken anywhere with how bulky it is. The RP5 for this much gaming power into the jeans pocket.

Binding of Isaac.

Played it as I was coming into adult life. This was my first roguelite. It sounds dumb…but it really stuck with me as a life lesson:

You can try your best and make sacrifices, and still end up unlucky with poor rewards. You get the opportunities you get, but even in this seeming randomness, you make choices to make the most of them. Training and skill makes up for some of the poor opportunities. Life is a roguelite.

Now I’ve got BoI on my Retroid Pocket 5 now. Still playing it.

That soundtrack still lives in my music library and gets played regularly. Same with the game itself.

Our tiny community squeaks into the void while normies continue to pick up pre releases and loot boxes like crazy.

I am yet to understand what “nobody” adds to a meme. Still don’t get it.

cRazi_man,
@cRazi_man@europe.pub avatar

Yeah I got the impression that’s how they intended for the game to be played. I’ve had a BoI app on my phone for years to get around this.

cRazi_man,
@cRazi_man@europe.pub avatar

I never played this all the way through. I’ve just gotten it ony PS2 emulator. Looking forward to it.

The RTS genre is sorely lacking. Even if they don’t make a successor to the competitive multiplayer success of SC2, I would be happy with a good campaign.

How can i casual gamer enter a game online competition?

Im curious if its possible to enter a game competition or something as a casual player? I want to someday atleast try one but im not sure what game to get better at or what sites to use to enter some without making myself look like a fool? I also dont want to pay because thats sort of like gambling at the start....

Fighting games are great for this. Street Fighter 6 is great (and the biggest). But there are others (Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Guilty Gear, Super Smash Bros, loads more and more upcoming new ones). Fighting games have usually have local clubs/events where you can play casual matches. They’ll also do local tournaments, and there will be bigger regional and national competitions to find. But it’s a great starting experience to go to a local tournament and lose £5 entry fee by losing 2 back to back best of 3’s.

Dirt 2 Dirt Rally 2 is a game that I have really enjoyed being shit at.

@cRazi_man@europe.pub avatar

Correct, it should be Dirt Rally 2. Highly recommend that for real rally simulation.

The fact that they just dropped family sharing on us and there’s hardly any game excluded is insane. Games I never would have picked up otherwise, I get to try now because one of my brother’s bought it. We don’t even get the bullshit video streaming sites do “this content is disappearing from family sharing soon…”.

Best I found was a Discord server called “dads gaming”. Rather than whiny youngsters, you get middle aged med who have little time for gaming, so they play casually and are happy to play with others who are also mediocre. I haven’t used this for ages though.

cRazi_man,
@cRazi_man@europe.pub avatar

A lot of people are interested in what you’re asking for. You could try making a server.

cRazi_man,
@cRazi_man@europe.pub avatar

I don’t have invite permissions for the group I’m talking about and I found the channel on Reddit (back in the days when I used to be on there).

Having a look at Reddit now, there are still dad channels to be found: discord.gg/papasquad

Here’s another one: discord.gg/h6PkhgPjRC

Happy for anyone interested to add me: discord.com/users/crazi_man

(UK timezone, very erratic and limited gaming hours)

For people who want to play their favorite games but are unable to, what are you currently doing?

I sold my PC yesterday because of financial struggles and as far as I’m aware, I would probably be unable to buy a PC or console ever again. That said, I still want to somehow experience the games I would otherwise want to play on PC. I’m thinking of watching let’s plays but of course, that’s not the same as actually...

To elaborate on this… phone emulation isn’t just for retro classics. Many phones will have enough power to emulate modern Switch games, and semi-modern games up to Wii/3DS or so. Many modern games are also portrd to phones (Dead Cells, Hollow Knight, Wild Rift, Fortnite, etc).

Sorry to hear OP is having such a hard time, but SBC gaming is another option if there’s enough of a budget for that. Retroid Pocket 4 Pro (£120 on eBay, upto Wii/3DS/manySwitch), or Retroid Pocket 5 (£190 on eBay, up to PS3 and all of Switch).

Are Nintendo’s shit practice’s going to make any difference to people falling over themselves to buy their stuff?

Best selling console of all time, you say?

A post this size with this many pictures is slowing down my Lemmy app (Boost) to a crawl. I can’t even scroll down the page. Anyone else having problems?
