9point6,

Not that they were a great company to begin with, but nice one Mike Ashley, killed off another brand basically

9point6,

That… weirdly… seems like a lowball given the recent success of the steam deck

9point6,

EA is worth several times that and they don’t have the #1 PC games platform or any hardware

Valve should at least be in the same ballpark

9point6,

As with most of these petitions, this will very likely be heard in a mostly empty room unfortunately

9point6,

I’m pretty sure the public can’t attend.

I’ve seen a few petitions get to this stage before and it’s nearly always to a mostly empty room

9point6,

So no more timed exclusives ever then?

9point6,

Also Japan still being a market Microsoft has not managed to properly crack wrt games, makes this even more baffling—surely removing a (successful) local presence is only going to make that harder

9point6,

Nintendo has always been the king of handheld for as long as handheld gaming has been a thing.

I’d put a lot of money on them viewing Valve as their biggest threat currently.

9point6,

I think this is the third reference to quest 64 I’ve seen in a few days now

What is going on

9point6,

Okay, understood, keep up the good work

9point6,

I wonder if there being an R4 style cart released recently for the switch has lit a fire under their arses

Maybe they expanded their legal department recently

9point6,

Why is this much of this a problem for them—discord shouldn’t be an essential piece of the puzzle for an emulator project

Potentially completing someone’s lemmy bingo card here, but it’s relatively easy to self-host any tools you need

9point6,

I mean, I worked at GAME over a couple of decades ago as a teenager and they were using zero hour (and near-zero) contracts back then.

Surprising they ever stopped tbh, awful company even before Mike Ashley got it from the bargain bin.

9point6,

Not just to death

Out of existence

9point6,

I’m still mad they canned the UT reboot because of bloody fortnite

9point6,

This is probably more the opposite way round than you’re thinking of it.

A CDPR launcher can be bundled with steam games, perhaps they have tried and been stopped from bundling GoG with CDPR games.

9point6,

Off the top of my head, pixel dungeon, golden krone hotel, caves of qud, cogmind, zorbus & tangledeep all fit the strictest definition IMO. Probably Jupiter hell and maybe spelunky too

For me at least, the definitions are:

A roguelite is a permadeath, generally procedurally generated game, generally with a metagame over the runs

A roguelike is that, but in addition it’s also a turn based dungeon crawler RPG. I’d say the metagame is a less common aspect with traditional roguelikes

9point6,

That’s what I’m referring to with the metagame parts, though you might be correct in that no true roguelike has this metagame aspect.

9point6,

I use claw because nothing since the G9x has been big enough to do otherwise

9point6,

Lol Starfield 2021

I guess they’re behind schedule then

9point6,

There’s other engines, this will kill unity

9point6,

There’s going to be a lot of money on the table for another engine that can build a unity migration or abstraction tool

I don’t see that being left on the table for long

9point6,

I’m not a game engineer, so someone else who’s actually in that segment of the industry can probably give more answers, but Godot and Bevy seem to be making some waves.

And if they’re not enough for what a dev needs, given these license changes, I don’t really understand why someone wouldn’t pick unreal or something much more comprehensive over unity now.

Correct me if I’m off the mark, but unity always seemed like what you’d go for if you wanted something like unreal, but (completely understandably) didn’t want to pay the fees associated with it

9point6,

There are some pretty big games built in unity, the money on the table is coming from them, (assuming reasonable licensing terms) not the small indie games.

I may be entirely off the mark, as I don’t work in that part of the industry. But I’ve messed around with unity and it’s not particularly unique compared to any other engine it competes with in my experience, particularly when it comes to actual runtime. Assets will need conversion and sure, the API shim will probably give a performance hit, but there’s no reason I can see that unity is fundamentally different.

9point6,

The world would be a better place if more people just played Chrono Trigger when they got upset at a game.

Honestly moba fans alone would make it the best selling game of all time

9point6,

Also because the moving parts don’t actually make contact with the sensors, the wear issues that affect joycons basically don’t exist
