IWantToFuckSpez, (edited ) do games w Legend has spent years making Portal for the N64 and by Gaben he's done it

Crazy what people can do with the N64 with modern knowledge. There is this German dude on YouTube who modded Mario 64 to run at 60fps on the console, the game normally only runs at around 20fps even with the C compile optimizations turned on, which Nintendo left off in the original, it rarely hits 30fps. Now he’s making his own full fledged mod for the game. https://youtu.be/t_rzYnXEQlE

Monomate, do games w Japanese PC gaming saw another year of explosive growth

I expect the growing availability of portable PC gaming systems to further boost this growth. It’s known the japanese public is very biased towards portable gaming devices, which is why the Nintendo Switch dominates by market share.

I’ve started seeing the ROG Ally and, in bigger stores both it and the Steam Deck, in electronic stores over here recently.

HidingCat,

Think Valve only recently partnered with a distributor for East Asia, so the Steam Decks are slowly showing up in Japan and South Korea. Asus of course has a good distribution network, so generally where they're strong you'll see Allys. I still can't get a Steam Deck in a store, but can get an Ally (and probably the Legion Go).

Aurenkin,

Had my steam deck in Taiwan for quite a while but I don’t know if it’s on store shelves here.

I’ve seen them in Edion, an electronics chain, in Japan, and they seem to have a partnership of some kind with them - the first time you could do a hands-on anywhere in Japan was at an Edion in Osaka, and that’s where I’ve seen the physically on sale recently (as in, only in the last month or two). The only person I know with one ordered it online.

HidingCat,

Yea, think Komodo is working with Edion for in-store sales. Saw an announcement somewhere when I was reading about Steam Deck sales in Asia (which sadly, just three countries in East Asia).

I wonder how much stuff like streaming and esports contributed to PC gaming growing in Japan.

Proud of these numbers.

The more PC gamers in Japan, the more likely we will get PC releases.

Schaedelbach, do games w GeForce Now is shutting down in Russia

Eh, the article mentions how the service didn’t quite catch on anyway. So probably an easy decision for Nvidia because they didn’t make enough money to be profitable. So I doubt think this is a case of a corporation doing the right thing but a corporation doing the right thing for it’s bottom line.

I long so desperately for the days when I didn’t know who Elon Musk was

Gordon_Freeman,

I support censoring all news related to Elon and his companies

justdoit,

I was kinda hoping the enoughmuskspam community would be focused on talking about innovative tech/engineering work happening at other companies. I guess that’s more the point of “futurology”, but still…

But, enoughmuskspam is just… Musk spam

TwilightVulpine,

I'm not surprised a community with a person's name in the title focuses on them. It's like saying "don't think of a pink elephant"

hansl,

It’s meant as a black hole of Musk spam posts. A way for other communities to just say “we’re banning any news about Musk, post those in EMS”.

I guess technology didn’t get the memo.

bbplay13,

His companies are fine. (minus Twitter) SpaceX and Tesla are great he just needs to keep his fucking mouth shut and do his job. The man is cringe and is taking his billionaire status too hard.

Not surprising, it's in early access and progress should never be expected to persist.

See, Tarkov.

Faulty, do gaming w Warhammer 40K: Darktide is adding RPG-style skill trees full of new abilities to its 4 classes

“Development of this skill tree actually started before Darktide launched, but some classes were further along than others. The system just wasn’t ready last year.”

Sad that it’s another “launch the game now and finish it later” situation. Hope these are fun.

ours,

Yeah, I enjoy the gameplay and atmosphere a lot but it’s obvious this game was rushed out in a bad state.

They wasted a lot of goodwill with the initial release, I hope with changes like this they do good with the players and then they’ll have a chance to bring in new ones.

They messed up initially with Vermintide 2 and then caught up and did the same thing again with Darktide.

strongarm,

They’re a strange developer are Fatshark, clearly very talented creatively, but their business side needs improvement.

Poor choices but with MTX and their project management is dire

termus,
@termus@beehaw.org avatar

I would agree. It’s wild to me that they are still releasing content (Free and DLC) and regular hotfixes for Vermintide 2. I remember it also releasing in a similar state to Darktide. Which is why I just decided to wait. I’ve had a ton of fun with both Vermintide games, so I have a good feeling they’ll get it there eventually.

Herowyn,

Yes, it’s the current thrend in software development, ship the minimal viable product and then react according to the customer complains.

LoamImprovement,

Honestly, at this point every AAA title should just be treated as having a release date of 3mo to a year out from the actual launch. There’s zero reason to buy a game before day one, and any developer that tries to give you one a la cosmetic preorder bonuses probably doesn’t have a product worth your money, and is just trying to milk your FOMO for every dollar it’s worth.

I have a former best friend who still somehow finds a way to fanboy over Musk, despite the excessive information about him and actions he's taken. All very public and easy to find information, yet never swayed the guy's opinion and the last time we talked about it he was still fanboying. It really should have been a warning sign of things to come with that friendship. Truly, only mentally and emotionally inept losers are still on Musk's side and the former friend's the only person I know who still has a favorable opinion of Musk.

Tough luck man. Have been in this situation a couple times.

Current working theory is that the reason are our relationship templates formed in childhood.

If someone has had abusive and/or gaslighting role models early on, they will not avert or even seek narcissistic relationships. I have been in this situation for a long time and am working for years to get rid of it.

This is what I think happens with people liking clear cut narcissists like musk and having friends who „somehow“ like him.

TwilightVulpine,

Sometimes people flock to a figure because they see them as a struggling underdog challenging the whole world.

But even that angle kinda falls apart when you remember that this guy is the wealthiest person in the world. He's not a brave rebel. He's not even taking a stance on something important, though he very well could, with his money.

ptsdstillinmymind,

Cult like culture, all the people that worship rich people are delusional. From Muskrat to Drumpf.
