I mean, to some degree yeah. If I were to get the world’s best samurai sword; I would have fun making whooshing sounds swinging it around, but I could not use it like a samurai master could.
Does anyone else find it really difficult to play evil in games, like emotionally and morally?
I loved fable and got my angel wings and halo easy-pie; I never managed the horns and huge black wings. I tried, I really did, but I just can’t do it properly… I feel bad for it.
Edit: Or wait is that what this is about, rather than just a specific game…?
Most people don’t do evil runs cause most games do a shit job at portraying evil.
If I help the nice girl who has the keys to the treasure chest, in order to make her like me, that isn’t a “good” act.
I just want her to trust me so it’s easier to get the keys later.
Motivations make you evil, not actions. Actions can make you evil if the motivation is there, or if you lack any motivation other than self-service, but if you are just a fuckup, are you actually bad? Sure if enough of your actions are bad even if the goal is good, it makes you a bad person, but does it make you evil? (I’ve played enough morally ambiguous virtue games to know the answer is no; they always forgive the antagonist if he repents and tries to do better)
Killing people is often, in games, portrayed as a good thing… but not helping people doesn’t make you a morally reprehensible person… helping them the wrong way does. And that’s hard to encode.
“My husband had to go to xyz to deal with the kobold problem, but he hasn’t come back yet”. Your options are help or ignore, and ignoring it isn’t inherently evil, it’s just not compassionate or caring. Helping the kobolds would be the evil act in this scenario and it’s never an actual option in most games.
I also find it hard to do evil play throughs. I tried to do one on Baldur’s Gate 3, but I couldn’t bring myself to because of how it affects your companions. It doesn’t help that I had already seen most of them work through their trauma on a more good aligned play through
Infamous and Second Son were so much fun to play as good and then evil. It’s so much easier to play as evil, because you can ignore all of the collateral damage you cause completing the mission.
The premise sounds awesome. I know no French at all. Would the fact that all of the signage is in French break immersion if I played the game in English? I guess this is something that varies from person to person, but it would be nice to hear from someone that has played the game.
Not at all. I believe the game was actually made for English audiences because the speaking animations seem to match the English subtitles and look like a bad dub in French. There is a lot of French in the background, but it’s more like immersive world details. The important stuff is either place names that are explicitly mentioned, like the Saint-Michel Rotunda in the first screenshot, or written in English. Heck, I think there’s more English in that first screenshot than French.
Thank you so much for writing these posts! Don’t worry about slowing down a bit, I’m way more interested in quality instead of them just devolving into a boring streak of daily screenshots, and most importantly, it’s supposed to be fun for you in the first place! It shouldn’t feel like a job! You can’t write good reviews of games if you are not enjoying playing them in the first place, or you’re prevented from fully enjoying them by the rush of finding a new title for tomorrow’s post.
As for this one in particular, I’ve had it in my wishlist for quite a while. I’ve enjoyed most of Dontnod’s games and this one seems quite peculiar indeed. I heard a few divisive opinions on it, but you convinced me to give it a fair try.
For those who wonder, @Road_Warrior_10 has my autorisation to promote his game, as long as he do not break the rules.
No need to report this post :
Rules 3 is not breached as long as OP do not spam the community. Promotion is allowed on this sub, as long as it does not become “excessive”.
Rule 4 is not breached as it is no meme content (anymore 😉 ), and it doesn’t fall under the “low effort” rule due to all the effort necessary to make such a game
My GOAT. I will send you a free copy when the game is out if you want to give to a friend or something. You and this community have been so nice to me : )
