I still enjoy Starfield after 60 hours and the enjoyment is even growing. I’m sick of pretending the game isn’t good, just because the hive mind decided so. It has flaws sure, but which game doesn’t?
Some environments are amazing and change so much by daytime or weather. I love this.
I still find it very good game. The upgrade systems could use a bit better of a tutorial but I respect a game that takes a minute for a player to figure out the puzzle. Because those are the games I like.
The Mantis puzzle was a bit painful but I got it after a few tries. But the game seems to have more to it. I am enjoying just traveling space and seeing what is out there.
Spaceship upgrades seem cool. The shipbuilder has a good potential for a sandbox deal if you get enough money. Unlocking and upgrading is intwinded with the story which is normal. The dialogue is a bit overwhelming at times, but it’s space Skyrim. I don’t know what people are up in arms about. It looks gorgeous. It’s fun most of the time. What do people want?
I like the game as a whole. I could name you shortcomings of nearly every aspect of the game yet as a whole I have a really good time.
Some quests have a too early ending or sudden dropoff, yet they were fun and the dialogues were good. Building your spacecraft is fun, despite the restrictions on how you can rotate stuff. The points of interest are often kind of lacking, but then on I’m in space and I don’t mind mostly “empty” planets as that’s what space is.
It’s actually kind of strange, because I don’t like No Man’s Sky. I find that game so boring and tedious. While Starfield is engaging to me. I wish the survival aspects of the game were a bit more, as they got nerfed too much. I’d like to prepare for the planet conditions.
I don’t like that unique weapon rewards aren’t unique other than a name/skin. But the overall weapon of the game are fun and I have many in my inventory that I barely use because I enjoy the ones I main. (Meaning I have enough for New Game+ as I just focus on laser and energy weapons at the moment)
The environment often shines at night, the weather looks great and I like the music creating a good synergy.
I found NPCs to be enjoyable too, while I’m sad I can’t put two NPC of Neon in my ship crew (the bagger girl and the gang girl, sorry I don’t have their names at hand)
Space battles are fun and not too hard but not too easy. (I play on hard difficulty though).
I have fun with the quests too. Just a few days ago I did a side mission with a rough AI, that I could solve peacefully with Ryujin dialogue options. I have yet to visit Chrimson Fleet and do most of the main story. I’m just at the beginning and there’s so much great stuff yet to happen.
I wanted to love this game and it did suck me in for 30 or so hours. But once I realized none of the factions mean anything and you can just join up with conflicting factions and kill whoever you want and then just pay off bounty I lost all fucks. What’s the point of being space pirate if I can just kill other space pirates with no penalty, and then go become a freestar ranger and a UC shill and still be a pirate somehow and nobody cares? It’s idiotic
I played for 80 hours or so, I really wanted to like it. I could forgive the sometimes humorous bugs and the endless loading screens if it wasn’t so boring. Some of the side quests were OK but ultimately it’s just not enough to keep me coming back.
I can never tell if comments like this are a joke. Starfield has tons of issues, don’t get me wrong, but I’m still playing it because I’m having fun. Why put 80 hours into something if you aren’t enjoying it?
Personally if I’m not having fun in a game, I’d just stop after a few hours.
I didn’t hate it, as I said there were parts I enjoyed. I did all the faction quests and maybe 70 percent of the main story and just came to the realisation that I was finding it a bit of a chore. If I wasn’t having any fun I’d have quit earlier but as I say it just became dull to me. If you’re having fun more power to you, different people like different things.
The only conflicting factions I can think of are the Crimson Fleet and UC Navy, but even then you aren’t going around telling everyone you are a pirate.
Unless we sell less of it than the arbitrary sales number we used a bunch of estimated pseudo math on to ultimately guess. Because if we sell less than that number we pulled out of our rectums with a faulty Excel sheet, we'll just shut the thing down immediately. Because, you know... fuck you.
If people stopped renting games developers would start selling them again. Until then, the incentive is for them to keep pulling this nonsense.
There’s a difference between a game having online elements, such as a MMO, and games that require a connection just so they can keep charging you. Even in the first case though, you should own the client, and ideally it either has a single player mode, or the developer releases the code for a basic server when they shut it down.
That’s why I stated that it should be illegal to promise product while selling a undefined time limited license, there should be a clear minimum time stated when you “buy a subscription” for (single player?) games.
Fair, stating a time-to-live when you’re paying might make some people think twice. At this point though, I think people need to just not be paying unless they get to keep it permanently. Paying for access to the online portion is fine, but the rest should keep working and you should be able to get your data out of the developer’s system.
For context, just 100k is historically a good showing for a JRPG, especially one with this production size. Atelier Ryza hitting 500k back in 2020 was a big surprise. This is well on its way to that mark.
I think there’s an argument to be made that JRPGs haven’t been this mainstream since 1997, and even then it was just Final Fantasy in the west. The genre is much more diverse today. Amazing times.
Sure, Fire Emblem had its breakout in the west with Awakening, but there were real discussions being had about the viability of the genre back in 2013. It was at the tail end of a really bad time (arguably the nadir) for JRPGs on consoles.
Persona 5, NieR: Automata, Dragon Quest XI, and Three Houses all being multi-million sellers is what sparked off the current, unprecedented era for the genre.
Sure, let’s just say Final Fantasy was the only popular JRPG around 1997 and we can forget about Pokemon, Earthbound/Mother, Super Mario RPG, Zelda, Dragon Quest…
Is Zelda a JRPG? I thought one of the defining aspects of the genre was turn- and statistics-based combat. Any Zelda game I’m aware of has real-time combat where hit/miss is based on hit boxes instead of stats.
I didn’t say popular, I said mainstream. Zelda isn’t often claimed by the genre, and Pokémon was literally the only other multi-million seller in the genre in the west.
Earthbound is the very definition of a cult classic, and Dragon Quest wasn’t even getting localized at that time.
Those developers trying to shit on Larian need to cry and seethe more. Terribly incompetent people who can’t create good games themselves, why not trying taking notes instead?
I’m not talking about Larian, I’m talking about the studios who want to keep cranking out suppisedly AAA games that are little more than creatively bankrupt, dressed up vending machines.
The picture in the OP is PR for a publishing company. There are many other accounts of people who work in the industry who are angry/jealous of Larian. You’re probably just not looking in the right places.
Try actually reading what the developers are saying. Most are saying that they can’t make good games because the suits won’t let them. They keep fucking over and chasing off the most experienced and visionary people, force teams to chase trends instead of concentrating on one type of game and never give them enough time.
From all that I’ve seen it’s more like they are trying to dismiss the success that Larian has found by saying that they are a special case which is nothing but smoke and mirrors. Larian did hard work and are being rewarded for it.
yeah but the right hand pic has twenty billion more triangles that are compressed down and upscaled with AI so the engine programmers dont have to design tools to optimise art assets.
I know you’re joking, but these probably have the same poly count. The biggest noticeable difference to me is subsurface scattering on her skin. The left her skin looks flat, but the right it mostly looks like skin. I’m sure the lighting in general is better too, but it’s hard to tell.
yeah they probably just upped internal resolution and effects for what I assume is an in-engine cutscene. Not that the quality of the screenshot helps lmao
Final Fantasy X unless you want to do the HD remaster, which is a great way to play tbh.
Yeah, I’d argue that the HD PC port is actually the definitive way to play the game. They fucked up Tidus’ face, but virtually everything else about the game is better. And you can just install a mod to change his face back to the way it used to be.
Or only selling the game in pieces but in such way that those pieces can only be bought in packs that force you to pay for the same pieces multiple times.
I’ve bought each of the three latest Hitman titles on Steam exactly once at regular video game price and gotten all the content of each game, plus freely received the collection of all that content in the “World of Assassination” consolidation. Plus the free and amazing rogue-like expansion taking place across all maps from all games.
I’ve been replaying Skyrim since I got the Special Edition on sale few days ago. The loading screen goes away so fast that I can’t enjoy any tips on information that it shows. The technology has come a long way.
Just as AI will replace developers, and then we have Devin. Also don’t forget the artists that will be replaced, that’ll happen just when it learns that humans have 5 fingers per hand.
It’s all marketing for AI, by the afaik currently biggest supplier of AI hardware.
The whole hype will implode when AI itself implodes, not as the AGI singularity, but when the resource costs spiral out of control, and its keeps getting its own generated glop spoonfed
