Final Fantasy 7 OG with HD textures and Echo-S mod (full voice acting).

It is a much better game than the so-called remake.

Severed_Fate,

Why do you feel the remake is bad

cloudless,
@cloudless@feddit.uk avatar

I don’t think the remake is a bad game, but I enjoy the original better because:

  • I prefer the original ATB combat better than the remake’s action hybrid
  • The original has much better pacing, the remake has a lot of padding
  • The original feels more open for exploration, while the remake feels very linear
  • The remake added some nonsensical story
caseofthematts,

I feel like what they did to FF7 is what they’d do if they ever remade Chrono Trigger, and that’s why I’m pretty against a remake of that one.

@cloudless@feddit.uk avatar

I am hoping that the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake will sell well, so Square-Enix will remake Chrono Trigger in the same style.

caseofthematts,

That’s one of the few HD2D that looks good to me. In my opinion, Octopath is way too dark, sepia toned, and saturated. It’s not a very pretty game in my eyes. In Star Ocean and Live A Live, the characters don’t look like they fit in the world; the difference between the 3D environments and the pixel characters is too stark. But I’m quite interested in DQ3.

I’m still playing Project Zomboid at the moment, it’s very intriguing when you make the zombie slower and more fragile, but double their population. 1v10 is doable this way, but a missed swing still mean death lol.

Chee_Koala,

I did 2 survival runs in the last year, both near Rosewood, I had never been and it was nice to have a change of scenery. Can’t wait for the next big update, I’ll be back for another run for sure! We used these settings on our dedicated server:

  • 1200% reading speed
  • 250% XP
  • Higher Weapon spawn
  • Lower Generator fuel consumption
  • Cars have a higher change to have a little gas in them
  • There is less food loot to balance the above out
Annoyed_Crabby,

Rosewood is nice, there’s a very easily defensible place i can hole up, a bit out of the town center so it doesn’t have high concentration of zombies, and near a police and fire station so weapon(fire axe, gun) is easy to come by.

Though the helicopter event will make you get trapped inside a place you can’t escape lol.

I’ve been giving Blood a go, I missed out on a lot of shooters back in the day so when I play them now you can see how many modern games were inspiresd by these old giants, it’s also really obvious why people love this game and have used it for inspiration

Chee_Koala,

Very cool! Check out F.E.A.R.! Cool level design, story, pretty decent AI. Old but gold. Also scary ;-)

NickNak,

I have played Fear! I think I’ve played both 1 and 2, they were great run and gun games

PixelOfLife, do games w Anyone remember Xfire?

Oh, I remember. Some of the games I played a lot would just crash if I had Xfire running in the background.

Dwarf Fortress and Cataclysm: DDA generate some crazy plotlines, full of narrative, twists, and character development. How come no writer has converted a character’s story into a novel, yet?

Grangle1, do games w The Weekly Discussion Topic - Emergent Gameplay - 18-08-2023

The Zelda timeline is an interesting example of emergent narrative, at least until recently. Before the Hyrule Historia, fans could see underlying clues of a general history of Hyrule and an order in which the games take place, but developers themselves wouldn’t confirm the existence of a definitive timeline. Even so, the fans speculated endlessly about where the games fit in - were all games canon or only some, was there a split or a unified timeline, and were these the same Link, Zelda and Ganondorf or were they continually reincarnated? Finally the Hyrule Historia gave a confirmed canon timeline with not one but two splits, all games canon, and with confirmation of several reincarnations of at least Link and Zelda. Considering how resistant to doing something like this Nintendo and the Zelda team were at first, I’d pretty well guarantee that the release was in response to the emergent narrative that developed and not something they had initially planned from the outset of the series, especially not before Ocarina of Time.

I’m playing through Dragon Quest 11 when I have time! I’m really enjoying the characters and the art! The story is… Okay. Nothing to write home about. The music was good, but then after having it repeat over and over and over and over it has kind of started making me grit my teeth. I also kind of wish the game was a little shorter? It feels extremely long, but I think that’s a side-effect of me hearing the same songs over and over and the plot not really clicking with me as well as some other stories have.

Critiques aside, I really love Sylvando; I think he’s the best character I’ve seen in a long time! So flamboyant, yet so caring and complex. And the art is really pretty and pleasant to look at at times.

I’m still gonna stick it out to the end, because I feel like I’m close to the end now anyway and maybe it’ll leave on a really high note :)

Baldur’s Gate 3. And when I’m finally through it, I’m going to start Wrath of the Righteous. My sister’s had it for a while and I only recently saw what it was about and I have to play it.

forgotaboutlaye,

BG3 for me as well. I'm just a handful of hours into Act 2 after spending 20+hrs in Act 1. So far, I preferred the less dreary scenery of Act 1, but still enjoying the way the story is going. Can't express enough how blown away I've been by this game so far. I haven't been so hooked on an RPG since Witcher 3.

I play Baldur's Gate 3, too. But I don't know what I'm doing... I found out I lost Laezel somewhere.. I don't even remember where and thought it was just a tutorial... I'm too weak to fight Nere and cannot move on in the main quest, because "it's too dangerous" and I don't know where to go to get stronger. I'm wandering along the old areas and try to find out what to do.

Kolanaki, (edited )
!deleted6508 avatar

I’m so strong, I haven’t even had to fight Nere; both times I reached that part, motherfucker was already dead somehow. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m guessing you lost Lae’zel after the nautiloid crashed? You need to explore the map a little more. She isn’t too far from where you’d find Gale; but apparently, something like 70% of players miss Gale, too. Which is crazy since they’re like 10 feet from the crash site up north.

DarylDutch,

I missed Gale since the description of the portal said it felt dangerous. Only returned 3 levels later thinking there was a challenge.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

This is why I save before doing anything. Some of the game overs you can get are hilarious. I got turned into a wedge of cheese once!

TipRing,

I ended up fighting Nere really early before finishing most of Act 1 and reloaded that fight just so many times before finally winning with some creative strategies.

Playing through the Quake 2 Remaster with a nostalgic feeling. Now, having kids, I realize that I should not have had access to that at 13 yo. Distribution channels were different in 1997.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Damn right you shouldn’t have had access to the Quake 2 remaster in 1997. Time travel violates the laws of established physics.

Just started but, man, i love that vibe of adventurer going to fight vigilante who is totally not my own brother by kicking asses of city guardians.

Djennik, do games w The Weekly 'What are you playing?' Discussion - 17-08-2023

After reading a book on Roman emperors I started playing Rome 2. Because of the problematic launch I never progressed far in the campaign. It seems the game was properly patched as I’m having a blast now.

I always enjoyed Rome TW, but it lacks some core game mechanics that Rome 2 does way better: political scheming, civil war, provinces, garrison, … I also loathed the anachronistic representation of certain cultures in Rome TW.

In short: even if it’s already 10 years old, I can’t recommend the game enough, certainly when you are a romanophile!

e-ratic,
@e-ratic@kbin.social avatar

With the Divide et Impera mod, I think it's the best historic TW game. Especially if you're in to Roman history and like realism.

Djennik,

Thx for the tip. What does this mod do?

Pottsunami, do games w Madden should not be 70$

The only sports game worth buying is nba 2k. The graphics are way better. The franchise mode is a million times better. There is less glitches. Stop buying madden. Tell the NFL you dont want EA anymore

KickAssDuke,

*Wii Sports has entered the chat

Delusional,

I also enjoy FIFA. Certainly wouldn’t buy it full price but $5-$10 is worth it.

For this type of game, performance is really inconsistent. Without even building a mega base etc, sometimes it’ll decide to just start moving as a slide show at like 20 fps. When I first load it it runs nicely at 100fps (with some tuning of the graphics).

Its especially bad if you go into a new town. Sometimes it’ll go fine, but chances are it’ll run like shit until you close the game and reopen it.
