TotesIllegit, do games w Day 92 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

I’ve been playing this game off and on for years, and it’s always a delight.

That perfect investigation bonus can get pretty big, and that needs a full photo album of 3-Star photos. Disturbed salt is an easy way to get close to that, so your friend is sleeping on some great cheese.

We’re like one level away from salt i think. Right now we’ve been taking photos of my Crosses that stop a hunt

Took me a moment to recognize it. This game is far better with friends imo. Have fun :)

If it’s like a fast fading wave but the highlight stays then thats fine.

If it’s a toggleable mode that shows you only closeby items that you have to pick up and look at in a specific order, then fuck right off. Especially when it’s so fucking obvious that theres a suspicious bloody knife stuck in a tree but I need to follow footprints to it first.

The only game I’m aware of in my library that has a feature like this is Satisfactory, the “ping” feature to find nodes they tutorialize but you’ll probably quickly stop using because you use an external map for planning/get to know the map.

Lobreeze,

Witcher series.

Not in my library.

Honestly if I could do this in real life for an object I’m looking for, and have the object ping and light up and flash and shit, I would love it.

surewhynotlem,

I use Tile trackers for this. They’re pretty good.

It’s because in older games, you could clearly differentiate between the background and the gameplay relevant sprites or models drawn over it. It was a technical necessity but it doubled as communicating to the player what’s important. When technology advanced past that being technically necessary, something needed to take its place. The pulse is just one of many ways to do that and the easiest one to integrate into a realistic artstyle. When you get more stylized, your options open up considerably.

vaultdweller013,

Honestly I would prefer it to just be a highlight, like in CRPGs where either itll highlight the outline of the object or the object itself.

I liked the part when I was playing very far into the game and I basically had so many enemies and explosions on screen I couldn’t even see my character anymore… and then my wife came into the room, saw the chaos and didn’t understand how I could still play or how it was even fun.

Good times.

I loved vampire survivors, I have not played it in quite a while. I did just pick up halls of torment and that’s scratching a similar itch.

Man I picked this up and spent ALL DAY yesterday on it, it’s so much fun! I got one character up to level 60+ in the second level (library) yesterday, he was effectively unkillable with Garlic, Runetracer, Magic Wand, etc all going at once.

This game is super satisfying and I absolutely had dreams about it, Tetris-style. I got the DLC for good measure and what I’ve tried is really good! More of the game but with some extra stuff going on. I’m gonna get so many hours out of this! And might need a third controller so I can play with my wife and my kid.

hagelslager,

You’re in for a treat! The game is a literal rabbit hole. The more you play, the more it opens up. I think I’m close to a hundred hours in and my start menu is very different to where you’re at.

It’s literally a self-bought gift which keeps on giving! I’m finally getting close to unlocking everything.

A_Union_of_Kobolds,

Oh buddy. Finally sat down to play it with my kid and she was HOOKED, her maniacal laughter at Pentagram was worth every penny. Immediately blew several hours, I’m thinking most of tomorrow too.

The DLC slaps too! That Contra one is super fun. I’m gonna be at this for a while. It’s a really good one to chill in after playing some Mechwarrior, too - one game where you have to consciously use everything at all times, and another where it’s just “LOL BOOM”

I love it.

hagelslager,

Have fun! I wrote in that other message I was close to unlocking everything, right? Well, nope! Fulfilling a certain secret led me to unlock more secrets to fulfill! The rabbithole, goes on and on.

And yeah, all the DLC are great IMO.

A_Union_of_Kobolds,

Oh man I can’t even imagine how much is squirreled away if you’re still finding stuff like that, damn! Gonna get my money’s worth out of this game for sure

I also finally grabbed Balatro so it seems I’m in full dopamine mode now, see yall in a few months

A_Union_of_Kobolds,

Hey, so… it’s been two weeks. The addiction deepens. I’ve got the whole game on two systems now. I’m trying to use the wiki while still finding surprises lol.

This game is the shit and I thank you for driving me to it

hagelslager,

Haha! My apologies and have fun! The last DLC (Ode to Castlevania) is one giant map you gradually unlock to it’s full size!

If the game has a lot of stuff but only some of it is actually interactive, there should be a way to disambiguate.

The most recent trilogy is better about that. 2013 has no natives, and Rise and Shadow both have her siding with the natives. Still snags a bunch of artifacts.

pyre, (edited )

yeah but the original was honest. this cunt was rich as fuck, living in a gigantic mansion. it makes sense that’s she’s a psycho who hunts natives for sport and exterminates endangered and thought-to-be-extinct animals for trinkets that provide nothing but bragging rights.

AngryCommieKender,
Buddahriffic,

It’s interesting how much the general attitude has changed about shit like that. In the 90s, I didn’t think twice about it, it was just a normal thing to imagine going to some location, killing anything that reacted with hostility to your presence, and taking back whatever you “found” for a vanity display or profit.

My reaction to Indiana Jones’ “it belongs in a museum!” was that he was virtue signalling (back before it was even called that). I guess the bright side is that, even as a kid, I thought the idea that museums having some kind of special claim on anything was ridiculous.

finitebanjo, do gaming w They're worth more than the treasure, Lara!

Exactly what you would expect from some bored entitled rich kid doing the job for fun.

Mog_fanatic, do gaming w They're worth more than the treasure, Lara!

The number of times I’ve basically seen this exact same thing happen in history is crazy. It’ll be something like “Well ole Bill Jesterbong discovered the Gilded Anusbangle in August of 1827 on the island of Nebraska. Naturally, he built a hide in a tall fir tree and camped in it for 3 weeks straight shooting and killing all 1382 Gilded Anusbangles to see if their hide could be useful or if they were tasty. Turns out they were not. The Gilded Anusbangle is now extinct.”

LucasWaffyWaf, (edited )

I’m struggling to remember the details, but I recall one account where somebody found a very rare, very endangered bird with its nest, strangled the bird and smashed the eggs within the nest, effectively just for shits and giggles. I’ll edit and update this if I can find the details.

Edit: The Great Auk. Wasn’t killed for shits and giggles, but they were desired for their down to the point the European populations were hunted into extinction. From Wikipedia:

The last pair, found incubating an egg, was killed there on 3 June 1844, on request from a merchant who wanted specimens.[56][c]

Jón Brandsson and Sigurður Ísleifsson, the men who had killed the last birds, were interviewed by great auk specialist John Wolley,[59] and Sigurður described the act as follows:

The rocks were covered with blackbirds [guillemots] and there were the Geirfugles … They walked slowly. Jón Brandsson crept up with his arms open. The bird that Jón got went into a corner but [mine] was going to the edge of the cliff. It walked like a man … but moved its feet quickly. [I] caught it close to the edge – a precipice many fathoms deep. Its wings lay close to the sides – not hanging out. I took him by the neck and he flapped his wings. He made no cry. I strangled him.[8]: 82–83

kboy101222,

Was it the Stephens Island Wren?

LucasWaffyWaf,

No that’s the one made extinct by feral cats, but that’s a different episode of Tom Scott’s Citation Needed than the one where I learned about the bird I was thinking of. Completely forgot that’s where I’d heard about it!

The bird I had in mind is the Great Auk, which was mentioned in a separate episode of Citation Needed lol
