Send the kid’s father’s head to him in a box with a letter in it framing a major enemy of yours with the murder. Do this with every single encounter. In 10 to 20 years a huge group of these children will have grown up to be adults seeking revenge for their fathers against your greatest foe.

JackGreenEarth,

Sure, if you want to be evil, I guess.

Last week I went deep into Next Fest and came up with a bunch of demos, to varying success. Tried Synergy (promising), Sword of Convallaria (great, but deeply concerned about the mobile/gacha systems), Guild Saga: Vanished Worlds (not great, borrows shamelessly from Divinity: Original Sin 2), and Balatro (surprisingly interesting).

For now, I’m kind of bouncing around, not being able to settle on anything. Might go back to Atelier Ayesha tonight.

Like a Dragon 8: Infinite Wealth

I’m 25 hours in and barely touched the main story. Once they let me roam around I did nothing but side content. Just yesterday I got access to the “Pokemon” League and I see myself not touching any story content for another 5 hours. It’s great.

samus12345,

Loved the game. I just did the main story and side stories as it’s the plot and characters I play Like A Dragon games for; I wasn’t interested enough in the Sujimon or Dondoko Island stuff to get into it. And no way am I paying extra to do New Game Plus!

Finally got on the Lethal Company bandwagon and I think I'm gonna have a lot of fun playing it with my kids.

Shrouded. Its bizar how well it plays for early access. Gameplay is fun, the enemies a little stupid but can be challenging non the less. And the game feels well optimized. My dedicated server is running and using less than 2gb of memory of the available 20gb and no lag. Then the building, it can be a bit finicky sometimes but it allows for so much freedom it’s a fun aspect. Crafting also works good, in all I highly recommend it, and can’t wait to finish the playthrough and cycle back in a year or so to see what it has become then. But it’s already worth the money IMHO.

Guild Wars 2. Love it.

Started playing in beta, took a break for years, and have been playing it again with friends most evenings for a year.

Planetbase, it doesn’t take long to figure out but I’m trying to unlock the other more challenging planets at the moment which just takes time.

I’m on the lookout for challenging survival management/city building games if anyone can recommend one? Something like Banished, This War of Mine or Frostpunk.

weird take ngl

  1. Buy cheap microsd
  2. Copy game from pc to chip

???

Krauerking,

Tell me what console or system or even game manufacturer that lets you buy their game, download it to a portable micro SD and then lets you play it from there.

Not even steam lets you do that and you don’t even have a direct way of knowing what’s on the micro SD card without making a label for it which good luck.

Oszilloraptor,

Kerbal Space Programm - and I guess most non-DRM-games on Steam, as long as they keep all their stuff in the game dir.

Krauerking,

No steam is definitely not the bastion to use as they really aren’t gonna work. They like games tied to accounts.

You could say GOG games but it really still defeats the point of it not being even close to similar to a physical game you could resell and having a nicely labeled piece of physical media.

I know you aren’t the person originally with the really bad argument btw, but yeah the list is super small this would work for.

Syrc,

There’s quite a lot, actually. Definitely not the norm, but not extremely rare either.

hswolf,
@hswolf@lemmy.world avatar

First, you can totally make a steam library on a portable device like a microsd or an external drive (I do and I play on different places with the same drive), and play it on any device running steam.

And don’t start the “oh but you need steam installed”, since with the proprietary sd, you gotta have the propriety device as well.

Second, sure I can just lavel it, a 3 seconds job. Don’t you need the proprietary sd to come labeled as well? Also, I don’t need to label anything, I have dozens of games there and select which one I want to play.

Your defense of OP’s comment is also weird but that’s okay, we all are always learning.

Each format of game has its own merits ans they are only better than another on an objective comparison, as for subjective, just use whatever you want.

postmateDumbass,

as for subjective, just use whatever you want.

That’s like, your opinion, man.

dangblingus,

Sounds like a shitty way to play games ngl

@yamanii@lemmy.world avatar

It’s why I stopped buying physical games, I’ll just pirate everything if they take away my digital library.

dangblingus,

You stopped buying physical copies of games because they stopped putting manuals in the box? How is that better?

Owning a Nintendo 64 is a pretty big hurdle. Have you seen how much those fucking things cost now?!

The_Picard_Maneuver,
@The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world avatar

Are they bad? I just never let anything go, so I’m still using mine from when I was a kid.

fluxion,

Delete this comment before you get robbed

thantik,

If you can manage to find a place that has one, they’re usually selling for $200+ now. I’m pretty sure I can get ebay chinese replicas for like $50 though, but there are some games they won’t play.

Albbi,

The N64 had a $200 launch price, which is pretty much $400 now. So nobody is making money from holding onto their N64. Hrm, maybe I should pick one up.

Jerkface,

Prices have come down in the last year. I see several on eBay listed tested/working for around $60. One even comes with a controller. Shopgoodwill.com has similar prices when they’re available. Prices for auction items with less than 10hrs look very reasonable.

Sombyr,

Wait, what? I just bought my younger brother an n64 with an expansion pack, rumble pack, and Majora’s Mask and OoT for Christmas, and all together that only cost 180$. All legit copies and hardware. Made double and triple sure.

Are people just not hitting the “sort lowest to highest” option on auction sites? Or is this a new development in the last few months?

thantik,

No, it looks like prices have come way down in the past few months. Last time I checked was a year+ ago. My information just wasn’t up to date.

Sombyr,

Ah, that makes sense. Consoles do tend to spike in price at the height of their nostalgia wave. Probably got boosted up for a while by the rumors of an N64 mini not panning out, and instead being presented with the sub par switch online expansion. Probably created a lot of demand for the real thing.

rudyharrelson,
@rudyharrelson@kbin.social avatar

I regret selling mine when I was 17 cause I wanted to buy a paintball gun and gear. At the time, it was a great call cause I didn't play any N64 games at the time, and I got to have a blast playing paintball with my friends.

But man I wish I'd sold something else back then so I could still have my original N64 and games. Still got the ol' NES and Sega Genesis at least.

Lemminary,

If you can’t have it, emulate it. ;)

SmokumJoe,

I’ve got one in a box in my garage

refurbishedrefurbisher,

You can emulate via software or hardware nowadays.

If you want accuracy, the MiSTer now has an N64 core that is mostly complete.

Speculater,
@Speculater@lemmy.world avatar

The biggest thing holding me back from enjoying emulators is their input lag, I’ll give MiSTer a try.

refurbishedrefurbisher,

You should also try RetroArch. Very low input lag, although not as low as MiSTer on a CRT.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

Are there no emulators?

Katana314,

If you don’t like the jank of emulation or the risks of going to pirate sites: An Xbox Series S, Game Pass, and a few controllers is an okay replacement. There’s a bunch of Rare games on Game Pass, classic Goldeneye, and they even have stuff like Timesplitters in the store.

thantik,

I’d emulate anything over giving Microsoft any money at all. But thanks.

Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Activision, Blizzard – all on my shit list and will never get a penny from me.
