Bikini armor causes neuron activation.

HipPriest, do gaming w Male players: Why do you play female characters?

It depends on the game, character etc. I mean I suppose it adds to the escapism slightly?

I play all sorts of different games though, some where you're not given the choice (Life Is Strange for example) and I don't feel like it's that big a deal

I prefer playing characters as little like me as possible. If there’s a non-human option, I will always take it. The further from human available. Weird alien race? That’s my jam.

If I have to be a human, I’ll often play a female character because it’s the furthest from ‘me’ I can get within those constraints. I’ll also usually play a character of a race I am not, for this same reason.

Especially when playing 3rd person games, I find that I enjoy looking at a woman more than at a man in. Also mostly I think the character customization is better.

Hey @ernest, not sure if you saw my question here (https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta/p/3482999) or not, but I was wondering what the recommended way to authenticate a user with the kbin API that allows federated use. From what I understand, the way it's currently set up is that developers have to register an oauth client with a kbin server in order to authenticate users from an external client. Does that mean every kbin server we want an external client to connect to has to register with oauth?

@ernest@kbin.social avatar

Oh, I must have missed your question, sorry. I'll answer it when I get back home.

The "Add New" button is a nice update to the page -- should be useful for and accessibility which hopefully inspires others to use this feature! Also glad to see that unfollowing a has been renamed from "Delete" to "Unlike". The spoiler tag update is also definitely welcome.

As always, your work is fantastic, @Ernest!

Having that spoiler tag available in the editor will be great, especially on mobile!

daredevil, do kbinDevlog w RTR#27 Aggregate view, work on federation

Fascinating update. Microblogging seems to less important to /kbin users in my experience, but I find this aggregate view very useful. What is the fav change you're referring to? Bookmarks will be pretty handy--I've seen people asking for this a decent amount. I realize this is a test version, but it would be pretty cool if the aggregate view will allow one to combine magazines in the future. Not urgent of course, but it would really help alleviate how fragmented some communities feel at times. That being said, really impressed with the consistent communication and development on /kbin, Ernest. Looking forward to that next post of yours.

@ernest The thing that's different from email for social media is moderation, which is why the host matters. Also, for both email and social media, the host matters for other reasons: you don't want someone who's going to lose all your email by going out of business suddenly, or who has poor uptime, etc etc.
Saying "the host doesn't matter" caused a lot of people to bounce off the Fediverse when they first tried it, because they wound up on hosts with terrible or no moderation.

Everblue, do gaming w I have two old Mass Effect 2 Editions in my Steam and don't know the difference

Top review on the 2nd version you posted says this:

“For some reason, EA delisted the original version of Mass Effect 2 on Steam and replaced it with a newer version that seems identical in everything except two aspects. Firstly, it now includes all DLC, which previously required you to buy them on the EA launcher and then manually download and transfer them to the Steam version. This process was not intuitive, but now it’s all included at no additional cost and hassle-free. Secondly, it now requires the EA launcher, which is annoying but not a huge deal in the end. However, it does create a situation where we have two nearly identical versions of the game in our libraries, which is a bit odd. I suppose this could’ve been an update instead.”

thingsiplay,
@thingsiplay@kbin.social avatar

Thank you everyone to lighten me up. Now I understand. While the newer version have all DLCs included, it requires the launcher now? The older version didn't use the launcher, when I understand the comment correctly. So when I play the game, I probably would play the oldest without DLCs, but also not relying on an additional EA launcher.

I still don’t see the big deal about the pronoun mods. You have the power to use it or not. Also banning the mods only helped it. Streisand effect, everyone.

This is hilarious to see. It’s like watching human brain rot IRT.

Onion should write an article about lazy losers who mod games to gain edgelord status at some gamecon.
