B0NK3RS, do games w More ways to play your GOG games with Amazon Luna
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

buying games on GOG (directly on our service or via Luna) will give you the best of both worlds – enjoying them on Luna’s cloud gaming service, as well as via offline installers or GOG GALAXY.

This sounds pretty good but not really something I would use GOG for unless it is included in Amazon Prime.

Ucalegon,

It looks to be included. Sadly only supported in a handful fo countries yet.

blindsight, do gaming w Mordheim: City of the Damned is on giveaway at GOG for the next 3 days

I hadn’t heard of the game before, but this looks really cool. From what I’ve gathered over the last little bit watching videos:

It’s a turn-based tactical board/war/role-playing game based on “the best game Games Workshop ever made”. It’s set in a brutal post-apocalyptic fantasy world with permanent injuries and death, so there’s always tension that you could lose a unit permanently in any battle.

Negative reviews for the game are largely based on the randomness of the system; you need to carefully plan defensive strategies and use positioning effectively to mitigate the risk of bad rolls. You are expected to lose your team and restart. Often, when you first start. This isn’t so much a game to “beat”, as a virtual boardgame to play and see how far you can get.

It sounds like it’s a pretty complex system, too, where you need to carefully balance your team’s synergies and stat points to minimize risks. It sounds like there’s a very high skill ceiling to work towards.

This definitely isn’t a game for everyone, but I think it might be a lot of fun for me!

I’ve had this on my wishlist for a few years now, so that’s nice. Might give it a try later today.

Had no idea Sony were releasing their PC ports on GOG now too, albeit later than Steam. Good to see they recognise an appetite for alternative/non-store binding releases.

Rose,

Horizon and Days Gone were already DRM-free on Epic, so the GOG release is more of a marketing opportunity.

qooqie, do games w GOG Autumn Sale

Looking through the best seller list I saw spore and man I really wish someone would give that game another go. It was fun, but had issues obviously like the overselling of features.

Skyrim and Yakuza were the ones that took me by surprise, but this did happen sooner than I expected after ESV.

Grass, (edited ) do games w GOG Summer Sale has arrived

Many solid deals after doom scrolling the pages.

edit: actually im not even half way and I feel like every notable old game ever is on there at a huge discount, with some I am suspicious of with only the title to go off filling the space, except there is no space and its just packed. I need to sleep but I keep scrolling.

The witness 80% off working out to 10.89 irks me. significantly better games with more content are like 6 bucks. I guess when there are no achievements hinting at something being missed, you aren’t compelled to find and do the most bullshit timed challenge in any game I can remember, which increases its value… ?

disclaimer: I enjoyed the first 15-30 minutes or so of the witness then suffered through the slog of completing every last thing. Even my autistic friends that unintentionally did 100% speedruns didn’t like it which gave me the echo chamber I had desired the whole time playing.

    deus, (edited )

Interesting. I never finished The Witness but I got some solid 10h of entertainment out of it before I stopped having fun. I’d say it is a brilliantly well designed game that’s well worth the price if you are into puzzles.

    Hahah_Montana,

What the hell are you talking about? The Witness is my favourite puzzle game, followed by Lingo. You need to touch grass.

Like a Dragon is on GOG without Denuvo, nice. I hadn’t realized that before, I’m definitely gonna pick that up.

CubitOom, do gaming w A Lego game about building with Legos, not a world with Legos in it? Yes please

I’ve played this a lot with my daughter and while it has some great moments, the actual Lego building in this game is really wonky with a controller. It’s a bit easier with a keyboard and mouse bit it’s still leaves something to be desired.

The rest of the game is great though.

    Telorand,

Similar experience. The building doesn’t feel as nice as you’d expect, and it’s often more satisfying in traditional Lego games. Still, the overall gameplay is a unique divergence from their usual game design.
