Aspyr has done a great job porting a lot of the best Star Wars games to modern systems, including the Wii version of The Force Unleashed for Switch (my favourite version). I’m sure they’re handling this with care.

Aren’t Aspyr garbage?

Last I remember is their janky arse port of Jade Empire and a unlaunchable KotoR.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

I have played their ports of The Force Unleashed, Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, Episode I Racer and Republic Commando on PS4/Switch, all without any issues. Either KOTOR is an outlier or I got very lucky/have low standards.

520,

No, they aren't garbage.

Can't speak for their Jade Empire port but their KOTOR port is actually pretty good. Might be something wrong with your handset.

Their general output is pretty good.

trustnoone,

Don’t know why you’re being negged. They’re “okay” and I do understand why some are negative about them. Overall they’ve done okay with re-bringing back out old games.

But you’re right there’s been some issues with jank, and some anger due to how they dealt with KOTOR 2 DLC and purchases.

The kotor2 remake has also been removed from aspyr.

IMO I’d say wait and see, let the reviews come up, and see if it fits for you.

CallMeButtLove,

Can you elaborate on why the Wii to Switch version is your favorite? I played it on 360 back in the day and have it on Steam. I’m curious what the differences are.

MamboGator,
@MamboGator@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve played both but the Wii version first, so that’s probably part of it. But it’s also because the PS3/360/PC version really showcases the physics engine while the Wii version naturally focuses on the motion controls. I just wasn’t very impressed with the physics-centric combat and found it to be more flash than substance, but I really liked how the motion controls were utilized for the lightsaber and force powers. Grabbing enemies with the force choke power and then using the nunchuk controller to toss them around felt especially satisfying.

Man, I can still hear the rattle of the teacup.

Mojojojo1993,

Pffft

sizzler,

I can hear the creak of the metal on the boat.

Hadriscus,

Holy shit I just heard it. You mean the Maria Doria in TRII ? grrrrrooouiiinnnggngkkk

sizzler,

I’ve heard it irl. Next to a large water pumping station. It is the occasional grind of a stone against the propeller I think.

That world is so fun and zero of it will be in a fighting game.

I_Has_A_Hat,

Are you saying that none of the fun will be in this game?

I don’t know if anyone else here read the books as kids, but I’m hopeful they’re leaning more into the lore of D’ni, which the older games were always (imo) too slow and puzzle-focused to deliver well.

myfavouritename,

I read those when I was younger and re-read them recently. They are surprisingly good considering they were written by game developers.

Nooo, that gif is so much better when it’s reversed

ranandtoldthat, do gaming w Riven remake titled Riven: New Discoveries from the Lost D’ni Empire, first details and screenshots - Gematsu

Riven is still perfect, more perfect now that you don’t need to switch CDs. Doesn’t need a remake.

caseyweederman,

Yeah I’m gonna go ahead and very happily explore the islands in first-person real-time free-exploration mode (while wishing I had a VR setup)

HalJor,
@HalJor@beehaw.org avatar

What I learned very quickly playing Myst VR is that it’s hard to take notes, making the puzzles frustratingly difficult. Exploring is fun and the graphics are great, but that’s not the point of the game.

caseyweederman,

There’s got to be a notepad overlay feature somewhere. There’s no way there isn’t.

caseyweederman,

There is on Steam. If Oculus locks that down… Well.

gregorum, do gaming w Riven remake titled Riven: New Discoveries from the Lost D’ni Empire, first details and screenshots - Gematsu

oh, great, so it’ll be even harder? fuck you, fire beads!

seriously, though, i’d buy it right now if i could. this game was one of my all-time favorites, and probably my favorite Myst game (i’ve played them all multiple times). But, holy shit, was it hard! possibly the most difficult of them all.

towerful,

I didn’t understand it the first time I played it (I was quite young). But I loved the music, the environment, the aesthetics, the architecture.

If you like Myst, but found Firmament missed the mark (I feel like it was “follow the wire” and “look for hard to see thing” instead of myst puzzles of “information way before you need it”, or “puzzles way before you have information”), check out Quern: Undying Thought.
It nails the Myst experience, imo.

gregorum,

I haven’t played Firmament yet. I did like Obduction a lot, tho. I’ve played that several times.

I’ll give Quern a try!

caseyweederman,

Wow, Quern looks fantastic. I’m gonna check that out.

The Day Before developer Fntastic shuts down

So they are shutting down tomorrow?

Computerchairgeneral, do gaming w The Day Before developer Fntastic shuts down - Gematsu

Not terribly surprised they are shutting down, but I am a little shocked that it is happening less than a week after the game released. I kind of expected them to at least attempt the old "we're sorry you are disappointed and are working to fix the game" routine before bolting. Then again judging from all the articles and videos it doesn't really look like there was any way to fix it or even really bring it close to the game they promised they were going to release.

Crotaro, do gaming w The Day Before developer Fntastic shuts down - Gematsu

Very expected that they’d shut down soon after launch, after all the coverup they tried (and failed at) to perform. I just didn’t expect that it would be that soon after launch.

Paradachshund, do gaming w The Day Before developer Fntastic shuts down - Gematsu

In what world is it a financial failure? Didn’t they just make an asset flip and potentially made millions of dollars based on player figures? Hard to imagine 100% of people refunded…
