This game was so fun on the handheld. I just loved the psp’s bumper buttons and world of goo used those in such a satisfying way. game control felt very unique, but maybe I was just a kid :D

Will be interesting to check this out on pc

Not sure about it on PS5. I tried (pirated) it on Switch. The experience is awful, mostly because of the control was originally designed for a mouse. They mapped the mouse movement to the sticks and called it a final product. It’s unplayable to me.

It supports touchscreen, which works really well, and motion on the controllers - which works very similar to the original on Wii.

I wouldn’t use the analogue sticks, it didn’t even occur to me that was an option. Maybe it’s because it’s a pirate version? Perhaps try supporting indie developers?

PS5 will probably be stuck with using analogue sticks? So that’s likely a miserable experience.

racketlauncher831,

I support indie developers. I loved World of Goo 1.

Sorry, but your argument is very weak. A pirated version of a game would not have additional features for no reason. A poorly done port is a poorly done port. There is no excuse of it. It may work well on the touchscreen, but I enjoy playing on my TV more.

And I am not a petty person who pirate everything as I assume you think. All I said is World of Goo 2 has unplayable control in docked mode on Switch. I would give my money to Windows/Mac/Linux version instead, where I can use a mouse.

But control scheme aside, I don’t find the stages of it challenging and interesting enough for me to buy the game. In fact I stopped playing after stage 3 or so.

In the modern game industry, you get hit with layoffs even if you do well so it doesn’t really matter what the quality of your product is in the end… You still get laid off.

Gotta love seeing the people who simply did what they were told being punished for their bosses’ mistakes

indulged in. When a company does not lay off people from the upper tier, they are indulging in layoffs.

“Hit with” implies an unavoidable, tragic, and forced event. They knew this would happen months ago when KTJL face planted. Videogame companies complain about the “cost of making games” but they’re the fucks what spent the money. Maybe spend less on your marketing and budget, and when a game doesn’t sell well it isn’t a cataclysmic event that sinks the whole company.

But really, if game companies weren’t constantly at risk to have implosions from bad decisions, the board wouldn’t get their “please don’t leave us” money. So really this always comes back to - fuck the management, and the board. Videogames are treated as products so here we are.

Paying for the suit shortsighteness I guess.

I mean, even if it had done well, I feel like they would still be laying people off anyways, just to pad out their end of year revenue presentations.

Exusia,
@Exusia@lemmy.world avatar

Every time. Seems more like companies aren’t “hit with” them at all, more like… They “get to participate” or “decide to indulge” in layoffs.

Silverseren,

Yeah, "hit with" has always been bizarre passive voice wording. The executives in charge were the ones who actively decided to lay off people.

At this point who isn’t laying off employees?

MeatsOfRage,

Headlines might as well just be “Ubisoft Reportedly Hit with Layoffs Due to 🤷”

Well Star Wars Outlaws just released so you might be onto something

Big publishers might as well tell studios to end themselves when they‘re handing out these kinda projects, set up for failure IMO

You can see this coming from an mile away.

I honestly don’t get what they’re thinking. They make phones. They making gaming equipment. Why don’t they integrate those together like they did with the Xperia Play? I don’t necessarily mean taking another kick at that can (but yes, they should take another kick at that can) but why not work with what they’re good at? Like they work with Backbone to make a Playstation branded version of it – but it runs on iPhones only!

It seems so obvious - make an Xperia/PSP branded gaming-grade phone, offer a first-party Backbone-like controller, sell a Playstation Portal screen-and-wifi-only device that also docks into that Backbone-like controller, etc. The only real problem is Google’s monopolistic rules against letting hardware companies offer alternate stores on PlayStore-based devices, or they could have a Playstation Android Store focused on gamepad-based games that are specifically targeting their gaming Android devices.

Bring back PSP as an Sony+Android gaming brand.

Karak,

That is a great argument for knock-off movies and shitty licensed games because they're cheap. You'd have to be living a pretty comfortable life to cluelessly buy a console.

nevernevermore, do gaming w PlayStation Portal Doesn’t Have Bluetooth

I actually likely would have bought this if it had bluetooth. remote play on my laptop is cumbersome if im sitting on the couch, but if I can't use my airpods then I'm out. i've got some sennheisers I could use with the 3.5mm jack but over ear headphones get uncomfortable quickly to me.
