It's a surprise to no one that Square is disappointed in sales numbers. As the article says near the end they are infamous for being disappointed with not meeting very unrealistic targets. I don't own a PS5 to play it on, they haven't been in stock locally consistently. But from everything I've seen about the game, it's a middling to good game. So middling to good sales numbers should make them happy. And from what I can tell the numbers say that it's selling better than that.
FF games have been crap since 10. I bought 15 on discount and was completely disappointed at how bland and lifeless the entire experience was. They have taken the series too far into MMO land, and need to go back to focusing on a good story with good characters, rather than a 'open world' with fancy graphics and lifeless characters.
13 was also a incomprehensible joke of a story, which they padded out to become even more absurd with the sequels.
It’s interesting you say that because this entry isn’t particularly “open world”. It’s actually fairly linear with a focus on the story and characters.
The MMO comparison is still fair though because the zones are very reminiscent of FF14. They all connect to each other and can be re-visited, but you’re not really free roaming a giant open world.
Side quests are also 14-like and I don’t mean that as a compliment. Go to A to talk to B. Go to C to talk to D. That can mostly be skipped though.
A Spinoff CRPG Final Fantasy game would actually be really interesting, and a funny way to go full circle with how much the original FF1 drew from the likes of DnD.
You're not wrong, but a lot of people aren't willing to invest the subscription fee and the hundreds of hours they'd need to see that for themselves. And even as someone who's all caught up on 14, I honestly can't blame them. Time is precious, and it's asking for a lot.
To be fair, that has at least as much to do with the last few entries setting the bar so low. And even then FF14 drops a few stinkers here and there cough Company of Heroes/Titan cough Paladin questline cough
Yup cause Amaricans wrote the script and decided against the millions of of fans (including the lead actor) who specifically said the new direction sucked directly to the entire production team… yup amaricans.
I mean… they’re essentially live service games with the amount of microtransactions and seasons, yet Black Ops 7 was announced only 8 months after Black Ops 6 launched.
No wonder it sold poorly - basically eating their own tail.
He made a pretty solid argument (I say this as someone with no interest in CoD so that’s my perspective) that the entire game was the first CoD built with AI “assistance” from the ground up. Probably by force by management.
If I wasn’t already totally uninterested in CoD that video certainly killed any interest I had in it. Kinda refreshing to see someone so vehemently against a shitty product that they feel it is a “moral good” just to tell OTHER PEOPLE not to buy it.
I’m tired of this headline. An indie studio that hardly anyone has ever heard of tried to push their questionable game. Valve said no…and did so with a solid enough reason from what I’ve learned about it. This is just stupid.
Sure, “it doesn’t have a main quest” is a splashy way of saying “we’re doing a BOTW-style game structure”. But I’m totally down for a dark and gritty BOTW, that sounds like a fresh take to me.
Align PS4 and PS5 sales to their launch date, and you’ll see that the PS5 has been lagging behind. Not by a lot, but it’s noticeable. This is despite the fact that The Xbox Series X/S is doing a bit worse than the Xbox One, and the One did a lot worse than the 360. Nintendo, of course, is in another room doing its own thing.
Sony expected every generation to sell better than the last. The market has clearly hit a saturation point, so that expectation is no longer valid. Combine that with the fact that Moore’s Law (originally defined as the price per integrated component dropping) is completely dead. That means you can no longer expect better hardware to get cheaper. You might be able to find fabs that can give you more performance, but it’ll cost you.
This is why the GabeCube is a good idea from a business persepctive. It will likely have better performance than the Xbox Series X/S, but not as good as the PS5. What it can do is be affordable with good enough hardware. The specs appear to be a bit Frankenstein, which is what you’d expect if Valve grabbed whatever deals on things they could find to put something together.
None to speak of. You can earn the in game currency all in game, and they only thing you would use the “paid for currency” is for cosmetics, but again, you gain plenty of free cosmetics and even earn the currency required to buy the other ones.
I will say getting the currency is more difficult than say getting helldivers super credits, but it’s still a fair rate and the game just came out. I expect more “packs” or ways to make the currency.
Is there even a way to get the currency? The battle pass doesn’t count, that probably gives enough currency to buy the next battle pass when it releases.
There are no battle passes. You get “Decks” which are free and give you a few pages of cosmetics, or more currency to spend on other cosmetics in the “Store”. Idk it’s hard to explain but there’s no reason at all to spend anything besides the base game. Definitely not the deluxe version if you don’t care about cosmetics
The Raider Deck is like a battlepass, where you can spend Cred in order to unlock cosmetic rewards. There are a number of rewards to unlock per page in order to progress to the next page. The number of pages in each Raider Deck may vary. At launch, the Raider Decks will be free, but you can expect a mix of paid and free Raider Decks as new ones are added.
Raider decks are battle passes. The industry standard is that the one that comes with the game (or a paid expansion) is free while all others require money.
And there’s no reason to spend money if you don’t care about cosmetics, but most people do care and the cosmetics are way overpriced.
I misunderstood the other guy. Cred is earned in game, but cred can only be used to unlock stuff in the battlepass. When it comes to the actual in game store you can only use raider tokens and raider tokens (with the exception of the ones in the battle pass) have to be purchased as they can’t be earned in game.
