Good Halloween Games

What are good games for getting into the spirit of Halloween? Like, games that double down on theming. TF2’s always been my go-to game but I’ve been playing it for so long I’m pretty bored of it now and I don’t really like PvP anyway. There’s Overwatch which I expect has a lot going on but again I don’t really enjoy...

I don’t know if you already know this, but your phrasing made me think you don’t:

Supergiant Games are known for Bastion… and more recently, for Hades :P So it makes sense that the style reminds you of that, because Transistor precedes Hades.

What some devs don’t understand is the “reward” on soulslikes is actually learning the boss itself. Figuring out the parrying patterns in Sekiro feels very good, it’s not about what happens after beating the boss.

What makes it challenging and not punishing is having telegraphed moves, windows to punish the boss, and clear animation that shows you how to dodge/parry, without bullshit hitboxes.

It does support Linux: it lets you download Linux installer for games that have a Linux port.

The lack of GOG Galaxy on Linux just means you have to manually manage your games.

For me at least, BotW was more about the movement and traversal problem solving than anything else. Of course it has action elements and it’s super different to DS in many ways, but the pathfinding part tickles the same part of my brain in both games, idk.

I think Elden Ring is way different because it’s an action game, where the fights take center stage, and not so much the movement mechanics (although the exploration is great in its own way).

Btw, something that really confused me when I was younger: “98% effectiveness” doesn’t mean a condom works 98% of the time, and 2% of the time you can get pregnant.

Yeah, but much of the cable content is lost to time. That’s why we have stories like that of Marion Stokes, who collected tapes at her home and preserved hundreds of thousands of hours of news footage.

How about starting a challenge #VoiceLikeAGirl to put on the other shoe in gaming?

Inspired by a discussion I had elsewhere and the article “Women in Games swaps male and female voices to highlight harassment in gaming”, how about we start a voice modulation challenge where you have to play at least one online game with a voice modulator to sound like a girl?...

Not a voice mod, but my voice passes as fem now, so I started talking in VC.

Started playing phasmophobia and it’s a lot of fun, but sometimes you get one or two dudes that start making “funny” mysogynistic comments and it’s pretty annoying cause it’s the Same. Thing. Every. Time.

“Oooh it’s in the kitchen, must be a woman ghost!” Looks at me to gauge my reaction.

Joins room I say hi“A FEMALE??? I’m not playing with a female” disconnects

And more. Spawntaneous is a youtuber that has a series of videos about being a “girl gamer” and it’s very eye opening. You don’t get that kind of people every match, but you do get them every couple hours you play, and even if you somehow find it funny the first time, it gets old really quick.

Been waiting 9 years for this game and hyping myself up. Somehow I’m not disappointed, and I’m even impressed?

How the guys at Croteam manage to make such thought provoking games with some of the -if not the- best puzzle gameplay ever is beyond me.

And it’s only 28€!!! (even less if you have the original). They could’ve made it 60€, and I would’ve happily paid them. Suck it AAA!

Fair criticism. It does feel more “on rails” to me, both story-wise and gameplay-wise, but at the same time the first one was a bit too broken (which made it very enjoyable but in a different way).

And that argument is BS anyway, because there’s no such thing as “potential profit” even though companies say there is.

When I pirated the most games I had no money. If I didn’t pirate it, I’d go play on the street or whatever lol. Not going to buy what you literally can’t.

Same goes for denuvo and the “always online” for single player games crap. I’m not buying any games using those on principle.
