The whole Gaza situation is a wasp’s nest that nobody should poke without knowing damn sure what they are doing. There are multiple big players playing chess with other people’s life there, and you could lose a lot.

But given the complexity the chance that the situation is resolved and thus something is won is very small.

Yes, it’s terrible what is happening. But unless you have a lot of resources and a big army you are not in a position to muscle all the parties involved into submission, which is what will be required at this point.

Tattorack,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Many countries in the EU already tax the rich. I mean, it could be better. It could be a lot better, and we still have right-wing types that try to destroy that positive element within the EU.

But of all the countries that would benefit the most from heavily taxing the rich, it would be the US. And since the US has made itself the centre of all the world’s attention, and the whole world still uses the USD as the primary exchange currency, anything that would shake up the economy of the US would shake up the economy of the world.

Hope every gaming company out there is sweating buckets at this. This is a matter of consumer rights.

4am,

We don’t want them to sweat, we just want them to do the right thing by their customers

Melvin_Ferd,

The only way I see that happen is having the tools and ability to pirate any and all media like we had back in the napster days. That’s the only time I’ve ever seen these companies scared. A petition I don’t think will do much. Plus not only is there this issue. There is also the issue of groups now targeting the way funding works like on steam. Payment processes are now being used to apply pressure where certain groups do not like the content.

The solution was always to defend and protect the people who cracked and pirated content. But I think they were all locked up and threatened.

AgentRocket,

A petition I don’t think will do much.

This isn’t just any regular change.org petition, that can be ignored. It’s an official partition based on EU rules, where EU parliament is forced by law to listen to the initiators and talk about the topic, when it passes.

Melvin_Ferd,

Ok but is there any group or lobbyists who are advocating or will this just be a petition sent to them which they can just ignore.

eatyourglory,

The European Parliament legally cannot ignore it.

Signtist,
@Signtist@bookwyr.me avatar

To what extent do they have to talk about it, though? Can they address it, come to the conclusion that it's infeasible (while subtly tucking millions of dollars from game companies into their pockets), and consider the matter settled? I understand that governments are meant to keep corporations in check to benefit the people, but functionally they keep the people in check to benefit corporations and their "lobbyists" (bribes).

These two things overlap under capitalism, as doing right by your customers is only required if not doing right by your customers affects your profits.

Korkki,

They hire like two lobbyists with 100k of splurge money and this won’t pass, for sure.

If voting or filling a petition changed anything they would make it illegal.

Melvin_Ferd,

By the way, the left could have done this for any number of issues in the past but refused to.

Like how hard would it have been if everyone who showed up to a George Floyd protest instead donated to some fund that then went to paying a lobbyist/think tank to work for them in Washington to change laws and make sure the police officers and department actually saw justice.

EncryptKeeper,

Are you a bot

Melvin_Ferd,

Korkki,

It would be more effective to get a quarter of 1.4 million people organized with united demands and on the streets of Brussels with the actual risk of projecting threat violence on EU bureaucrats, then StopKillingGames or any petition or demand would have a much better chance of passing. At that point you wouldn’t even need collect any names before hand :) All the voting, all the petitions all the representation only exists to act as an filter and push the little people people and their little people idea’s far away from actual power as possible.

I’ll be positively surprised if this passes, but I really really really doubt it. Too much money at stake here just for the sake of having some pro consumer common sense.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

The EU has gotten us pro consumer common sense a number of times already, like with iPhones and the GDPR.

Melvin_Ferd,

That’s what the powerful hope we do. It’s the most useless action possible. It’s like trying to boil water by breathing hot air on it. You’ll get tired way before you get any boiling.

mnemonicmonkeys,

You literally couldn’t be more wrong

Melvin_Ferd,

Yea whose the president?

We’ve had more protests in the past 10 years than any other time. None of them have accomplished much of anything.

You’d be lying to say otherwise. I’m sure you’ll try to find some policy or law that was implemented that nobody listens to as proof of action.

You can’t tell me there’s a global protest like George Floyd or no Kings and the result was what?? What the fuck did any of it accomplish. Insanity to continue with the idea that protests are doing anything other than given the opportunity to arrest thought leaders and kick in the heads of everything else.

You’re literally throwing bodies against an armed and trained force that watches you all protest like referees at a hockey game before they come in and break it all up. I’ve watched countless protests where the protesters are herded like cattle into pens before getting busted up. There’s no way you can tell me honestly that the authorities aren’t in love with the idea of you all showing up against their armed and trained forces. The left is doomed. It’s not just the Democrats who do these performative actions with no results. It’s all of the left.

This is most likely about Mario Kart World. The newest feature in the series is the open world with many challenges outside of races and more possibilities to learn the mechanics. Additionally, after you finish a race while playing online, the game gives you 3 options to chose the next track from, which are neighbouring the last track. If you pick them, you drive to this track and only then get to play the race you wanted. This sounds awesome, but only until you realise that this intermission is almost always just a straight line and really, really boring. After release it became the norm to always pick a random track because those don’t have intermissions. Nintendo noticed and patched random to only give you one of the 3 tracks previously suggested, something no other Mario Kart ever did. Now, most players organize their races on Discord. I love Mario Kart, but fuck Nintendo sideways.

Here’s a Video explaining it

Poopfeast420, do gaming w after Elden Ring what souls game should one play next?
@Poopfeast420@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I’m someone who tried a few Fromsoft games, but only really got into Elden Ring and that was the first (and so far only) game of theirs I finished.

If you want more Fromsoft, there’s going to be a lot of overlap with their Souls games, because of how From reuses assets.

Dark Souls 3 will be the most mechanically similar, but depending on what you liked in ER, it might get too similar and just feel the same, or you get frustrated when muscle memory kicks in when you do some Elden Ring move, that doesn’t work in DS3.

Dark Souls 1 might be a nice palate cleanser, as another user already stated.

If you play on console, Demons Souls or Bloodborne are also options, the latter probably being the fan favorite (or you can try to emulate it on PC). I think BB combat is supposed to be more aggressive because you can get back health, when you attack enemies after you’re hit.

Sekiro is focused on parries, and a lot faster, and more difficult.

If you want to try other developers, Lies of P is a recent one, that’s pretty good, more focus on blocking and perfect blocks, along with the BB-esque health-leech after you get hit, so you’re supposed to be more aggressive.

If you’re a Star Wars fan, the Jedi games, Fallen Order and Survivor aren’t bad, but they have some open world bloat, that you can ignore. Also, it’s an EA game.

If you like old school Zelda and puzzles, maybe check out Tunic.

If you like Crabs, try Another Crab’s Treasure, that was already mentioned here.

If you like 2D Metroid and bugs, check out Hollow Knight.

If you like 2D Metroid and little girls (what?) take a look at Ender Lilies.

If you like FPS and have friends, try Remnant for some coop fun.

If you like fast-paced action games and loot, with some souls stuff, Nioh and The First Berserker Khazan have you covered. If you want more of that along with Final Fantasy, there’s Stranger of Paradise.

If you tried Sekiro and liked it, or maybe you thought it was too hard, but it’s good in concept (and like loot) you can check out Wo Long. Also helps if you’re super into the Three Kingdoms stuff.

If you want Chinese mythology, take a look at Black Myth: Wukong.

If you like anime tiddies, there’s Code Vein, a decent game like this, on the easier side.

If you’ve tried a bunch of these games and just look for more, The Surge games are alright, nothing special I think.

If you want to defeat the woke mind virus and are extremely based, but don’t like good games, take a look at the Lords of the Fallen (2023).

@Theprogressivist@lemmy.world avatar

Bloodborne or Sekiro.

djsoren19, do gaming w after Elden Ring what souls game should one play next?

Dark Souls 1 is like a nice palate cleanser after Elden Ring; much easier, much quicker to go through, really only like 1-2 really difficult encounters by modern standards.

Dark Souls 2 has kinda become more interesting over time. You can start to see the bones of what would eventually become Elden Ring with mechanics like powerstancing and armor sets with bonuses, but the differences in healing and the mistake of Adaptability turn a lot of people away.

DS3 is honestly just “another one” in retrospect. It introduced what would become weapon arts and simplified magic to use a mana system, both things that would continue through to ER, but I very rarely return to it.

If you can find a way to access it, I’d also highly recommend Bloodborne. It plays the most different to the rest of the franchise, while still retaining a lot of the Soulsian trappings.

BreadstickNinja,

I’m glad to see others reassessing DS2 a bit. I understand the criticisms of the game but honestly I have more hours in that game than either I or III. Maybe just because it was the first I played, but I’ve always really liked it.

    AI content usually starts to look more mosaic (random shapes clumped together) as you zoom, not grainy/compressed.

    Zahille7,

    Have you never seen Inglorious Basterds?

    stoicmaverick,

    Mostly assumption. Granted it’s a pretty good example, but I can’t imagine where this image would have otherwise come from, which means that it’s either generated, or someone spent a reasonable amount of time doing an expert level photo edit from a movie still frame just to make this meme.

    It’s been shown in controlled studies that AI ‘identification skills’ are as effective as flipping a coin. People just don’t realise when they see the good images, and pride themselves on noticing the crappy ones.

    Do you not realize that memes of movies/TV shows have been made since hobby photo editing has been a thing?
