B42 multiplayer can’t come quick enough…

Have you tried unstable in SP yet?

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

I did! Day 1 in fact. It was a lot of fun. I can’t wait for it to come to multiplayer so me and my friend can go to Louisville and make a base in one of the Skyscrapers they showed off

swizzlestick,

There’s a world of difference between day 1 and the current build as well. Definitely take another look if you haven’t recently. Devs finally waking up haha.

Favourite part so far has been the lighting system & ragdolls. If you whip a car fast enough in reverse and hit a sweet spot on the swing around, you can send Z flying like baseballs.

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

I’ll have to check it out because one of my favorite things to do is pelt zombies with a car and watch them flop over (said the completely sane man)

RightHandOfIkaros,

Doesn’t B42 support local splitscreen? You could try that via Steam Remote Play or something, no?

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

it does support it! I’ve used it a few times before locally, Remote Play doesn’t really work for me though due to my Internet

Wahots, do games w Steam is cracking down on porn games, to keep Payment Processors happy.

This is so annoying. Even though I’m not a fan of porn games on the whole, it is extremely irritating that payment systems can decide how and when you can spend your own fucking money. We’re not seven, anymore. We can take care of ourselves.

It smacks of the idiotic “babyproofing” of clearly adult spaces everywhere except bars, these days. Antiquated moral panics, just like 1954’s lavender scare all over again.

Why is Steam removing them entirely? They should just remove the option to pay from that processor.

LukeZaz,

Probably because it’s a hell of a lot easier than trying to figure out how to manage payment processing without those processors. Visa and Mastercard are extremely large, and by-and-large the only way to pay online in the US. Add in Paypal and Stripe’s limitations (which are also notoriously shitty) and you don’t really have many options left, so it’s really not worth it. I know the EU has better options, but Steam isn’t based there and I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t want to find a way to jump through those hoops.

I’m cool with this

blockheadjt,

I don’t care about incest specifically, but I have to wonder where they’re drawing the line and why. If the games are depicting consenting adults, and only adults can download them, I don’t see the harm.

Did they target incest because it’s “icky?” What if they decide other perfectly legal things are icky? Shouldn’t legality be the line?

webadict,

It is arbitrary.

It’s not illegal to depict incest, the same as it is not illegal to depict many types of acts that many would consider immoral or even acts that are explicitly illegal, like bestiality, necrophilia, or rape. There might be an argument for regulating content that depicts illegal acts on the grounds that it normalizes or potentially glorifies these acts, but that isn’t likely the reason for this. I think it is mostly a corporate choice and partially a legal issue.

I am against this partially because it is arbitrary but mostly because I don’t like a precedent set towards banning things on moral grounds.

slackassassin,

I can’t wait for nazi rapists are cool 4, everyone should have to host it and support its financial transactions.

webadict,

Right, that would be you arguing moral grounds. If you were to argue that Nazis are covered under hate speech, that is fine because hate speech is illegal. There’s the difference, right? Depicting Nazis isn’t illegal (in most places), and could be allowed, but hate speech is illegal.

Paypal and other payment processors are wellknown to set up arbitrary rules. They held the money of an 100% legal and fine erotica author hostage for months, for example. Incest games vanishing is just step 1 of their censorship.

Bassman27,

I don’t pay for porn I don’t really care 🤷🏽‍♂️

Nefara, (edited ) do games w Vintage gaming advertising pictures: a gallery

I remember seeing these ads as an impressionable young gamer and getting the idea that Playstations had games that were scary and weird, and Nintendo games and handhelds were for boys. Generally the ads told me “this is not for you”. Because I only ever saw ads for specific PC games and never for PCs themselves, (they were aimed at adults, not in the kind of magazines and comics young me was perusing) even though I was still not the target market it clicked more with me. I think that might be a part of why I’ve only ever really gotten into PC games over the years. I knew there were games I’d like and games I wouldn’t, and never got the same platform level messaging.

I remember seeing an ad for Thief and thought it looked cool, and I remember being super grossed out by that Quake 3 ad, but I never felt unwelcome or out of place playing PC games. In contrast, the focus on marketing to young males is really obvious in those console ads.

Examples of some PC game ads I remember working for me and led to me getting them:

cdn.mobygames.com/…/18308445-thief-the-dark-proje…

retromags.com/…/large.1061174590_LordsofMagic02(D…

cdn.mobygames.com/…/6568546-the-elder-scrolls-iii…

bus_factor,

Now I’m curious what that Quake 3 ad was. Just lots of gore?

Nefara,

Kolanaki linked it above. It’s a disgusting crusty gamer den implying the game is so addictive you’ll live in filth. I remember that image being on the first couple of pages of a PC Gamer issue from the late 90s or early 00’s.

sthetic,

You put your finger on it. Most of the ads say, “this is not for you,” to a young girl.

Old ads for cars, alcohol, cigarettes etc. were like that as well. They’re aimed at the hotshot guy who has a chick he’s treating poorly, or more accurately, the guy who wants to have chicks throwing themselves at him. They have nothing to offer a woman or girl, because why would she want to be ignored arm candy?

I guess the one with the woman holding a controller in the bathtub may be an exception.

I’m sure a lot of boys and men were weirded out by these ads too.

The Pokescape rom hack is pretty cool. It’s a heavy modification of Pokemon Red but with music, maps, Pokemon and characters all based on RuneScape

Radical, as all your posts are. How the heck do you find the time?!

PerfectDark,
@PerfectDark@lemmy.world avatar

Oh this was nothing. My ‘news’ posts take me some time, and effort, which is why they’re kinda on pause right now (the 17th is when I see my specialist, get blood results, see what is next etc), so for now it’s this kinda thing - smaller!

But thank you so much, glad you enjoyed these :)

xspurnx,

All the best to you!

Best I found was a Discord server called “dads gaming”. Rather than whiny youngsters, you get middle aged med who have little time for gaming, so they play casually and are happy to play with others who are also mediocre. I haven’t used this for ages though.

Noerknhar,

Sounds lovely!

cRazi_man,
@cRazi_man@europe.pub avatar

A lot of people are interested in what you’re asking for. You could try making a server.

fluxan,

I fit this description! Can I get an invite via DM, please?

cRazi_man,
@cRazi_man@europe.pub avatar

I don’t have invite permissions for the group I’m talking about and I found the channel on Reddit (back in the days when I used to be on there).

Having a look at Reddit now, there are still dad channels to be found: discord.gg/papasquad

Here’s another one: discord.gg/h6PkhgPjRC

Happy for anyone interested to add me: discord.com/users/crazi_man

(UK timezone, very erratic and limited gaming hours)

fluxan,

Thank you!

Play 4x/grand strategy and youllvonly get better as you get older.

You might find yourself playing on slower speeds with rts styles though

DragonTypeWyvern,

Jokes on you, I’ve always been bad at RTS

Jankatarch,

Strategy games are interesting, I feel aged when playing mount and blade.

I used to take on 10 men at once by myself with only half health but needed 25 men to fight an army of 35.

Now I lose a simple 1v3 but can beat armies thrice my size on hardest settings with my barely trained archer units.

I also use bufs and consumables in pokemon now so that’s a thing.

AceFuzzLord, do gaming w I'm still in full denial, personally.

Wait, y’all had gaming skills to begin with?

I can barely play online games against anyone without getting wiped in 0.0001 nanoseconds if it’s a PVP game. Never had skills, so I’ll never be in denial about losing what I never had.

byzxor, do gaming w Linux users: Are we over-reliant on Steam?
@byzxor@beehaw.org avatar

I’ve been trying to not use Steam on linux for a while now unless necessary (I have too many games there). GoG + Heroic keeps me pretty sane. Otherwise it’s Lutris for starting them (which I’ll agree is VERY clunky but you can get things done). I think we’re actually getting over the hill of “Linux gaming means Steam” that we’ve been on since the SteamDeck launched.

While it’s working fine for now, what do I do if I’m offline and Steam decides this is one of those days offline mode doesn’t work? What if I get banned from Steam?

This is a pretty valid-ish concern I would say. It’s one of the reasons I’m using GoG mainly now (which yes, still buying licences so similar concerns just maybe not as great or maybe I’m kidding myself)

slauraure,
@slauraure@beehaw.org avatar

GOG is legit though. You can archive those offline installers and they’ll work forever (barring future OS incompatibilities etc). For the titles that support it I use the Linux installers otherwise I just run Galaxy through Steam for the time being since it reduces the amount of wineprefixes I have to configure with Steam.
