I was about to say this. I created !flipping to discuss selling on various platforms and I’ve sold plenty of boxes. One person sent me pics of their many copies of windows 98, 95, etc. boxes, like a disturbing amount.

I’m an EU citizen living in the UK, but only signed the UK one because I’m not putting my passport ID into petitions O.o

ProdigalFrog, (edited )

Just to clarify, this isn’t a normal toothless petition, this is an official EU mechanism that allows citizens to bring problems to the attention of the European Commission, and force them to pass judgement on it legally. You can read more about it here.

It’s good to be skeptical of anything asking for that personal info, but I’d suggest researching into it to confirm that it is indeed legit.

Thank you for signing the UK one :)

I hope this petition succeeds. There are games and other digital media I want to experience, but corporations are dead set on just trotting out new things on their terms.

Although, I’m all in for more and more FOSS programs, but why is there a need to create a new PS2 emulator, when PCSX2 is almost perfect?

Might be a passion or learning project they felt like sharing. Who knows? Either way there’s always room for improvement and more options is good!

tiny_mouse, do gaming w Halo Combat Evolved fun fact

Am I an idiot? I don’t understand the description of this post.

To me it reads: “Did you know? This level of halo has an elevator so part of it is above another part.” Yes, that’s what elevators do.

Disclaimer: I’ve never played Halo.

MrScottyTay,

I think elevators are fixed height. You go underground once. Then when you’re about to go back up again you end up going down instead. So now you’re down 2 levels. But you never go back up 2 more elevators so the ground level when you get back up way lower than the ground at the start.

abbotsbury,

To me it reads: “Did you know? This level of halo has an elevator so part of it is above another part.” Yes, that’s what elevators do.

Yeah that’s basically it, just a very video game-y thing where environments can be radically different without the player noticing. It’s just the discrepancy between where the game says ground level is.

I opened it in blender to make a better comparison, the difference between the two ground levels is about 150 meters, and close enough that it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Which is fine but it’s just kinda fun to see, like one of the VFX things where if it is a good movie you don’t notice until someone points it out.

Keep in mind we had no internet porn

MelodiousFunk,
atomicbocks,

There was absolutely internet porn by 1996. The Internet was over 30 years old at that point.

Stillwater,

Of course. But nothing like the instant streaming 4k of today.

atomicbocks,

Streaming has been a thing since at least 1995.

I really enjoyed Mass Effect: Andromeda.

zerofk,

I will continue to defend Andromeda. Yes it has its flaws, but no more than the original trilogy. It could’ve been the start of a cool new trilogy.

swelter_spark,
@swelter_spark@reddthat.com avatar

IMO, I would rate them: ME1 Andromeda ME2 ME3

The original Mass Effect was great, a classic, but 2 and 3 had less and less of what I’d loved about the first game. By the time I got to 3, I was playing because I felt invested in the story and characters, not because I found the gameplay enjoyable. Andromeda wasn’t quite as enjoyable as ME1 to me, mostly because I didn’t connect with the characters as much, but the story was surprising and original, fights were exciting, and the gameplay had a lot of interesting new elements that made the scenario feel immersive. It’s really too bad that so many people didn’t like it.

CarnivorousCouch,

I really wish this had been one for me, but I’ve never been able to make it more than halfway through despite a few good faith attempts. I am really glad you had a great time with it, though!

swelter_spark,
@swelter_spark@reddthat.com avatar

The beginning of the game is really bleak, but it makes the scenario of trying to colonize a lifeless planet feel all the more real IMO. After you meet aliens and start terraforming planets, it starts to be more what people wanted out of it, I think.

Nostalgia before gaming became preorder exclusive, endless DLC that should have been part of the game, and live service.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, instead it was quarter-munching arcade machines, obtuse puzzles to sell strategy guides, and individual games that could cost up to $90 in early 90s money.

Rhynoplaz,

I remember trying to convince my mom that $200 for an SNES is significantly less expensive in the long run than quarters at the arcade. 😂
