goombakid, do games w Which games do you dislike, but the rest of the world loves them?

Ocarina of Time. It’s one of the few Zelda games that I just didn’t enjoy. I’ve had a lot more fun playing Twilight Princess and Wind Waker more than Ocarina. I’d play Adventure of Link more than Ocarina.

Skyrim. Mostly all the RPGs like that. Never understood the hype. I did try to like it, but it wasn’t fun for me at all.

brsrklf,

About Ocarina of Time : same.

And that’s weird, I really love the series as a whole. OoT feels way too bland to me and… I don’t know, I can’t stand its characters, its boring empty environments (plain, ranch and lake for example), its overwhelmingly grey colour palette.

Majora’s Mask’s one of my favourites though. But yeah, I’d rather replay a Link to the Past or any of the other 3D games over OoT.

Sabin10,

OOT is ok but most people that played wind waker or twilight princess first will have a hard time getting into it. Most 5th gen games have aged pretty poorly and need a solid dose of nostalgia to fully enjoy.

jacksilver,

Yeah N64 and PS1 just have this element of jank from the transition to 3D. While a great time for games, none of them have aged as gracefully as the 32-bit games from the previous era.

chrisn, do gaming w How do you feel about the expression "updated for modern audiences" in remasters and remakes?

I started playing the last of us 2 remastered. I didn’t play the original (but did play 1 remastered). I don’t know if it was modified “for modern audiences”, but it would depend a lot.

Having more characters from Asian or African descent would please me. Making it look more like the (in my opinion) excellent tv series would be less great, but understandable. Removing the whole “military is bad” arc (like they did in the tv show), would suck.

smeg,

They already remastered it? Isn’t it only a few years old? Or did they call the port to the next generation of console hardware a remaster?

chrisn,

Got released in 2020, but Wikipedia said development started in 2014. PS5 version is called remastered, no idea how much is different.

sag, do gaming w Any interest in a Lemmy gaming Steam group?

Will join it and also share it on another gaming communities.

june, do games w Your personal Masterpieces

Xenosaga 2 was the first game I went to GameStop and bought on release day. It wasn’t big enough for a midnight release so I just got there at opening. I still think about that game often and would love a remake. KOSMOS was a great character and the antagonists were great across the board.

The game for me that I loved but never hear about is the 2d platformer Thomas Was Alone. Really fun gameplay and a fun little story that was gripping, especially considering you’re just playing a bunch of different shapes.

Bbbbbbbbbbb, do games w [minor story spoiler] Playing Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth before finishing original Yakuza Series?

In my opinion, play through the Kiryu Saga and buy LaD:IF on discount. Should also have patches released by that time

ladytaters, do games w [minor story spoiler] Playing Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth before finishing original Yakuza Series?

I don’t know about spoiling enjoyment per se, but I do recommend at least playing 6. It sounds like you’ve already gotten through the early games. Are you enjoying yourself, or are you burning out on it?

Three is a hard quality jump after Kiwami 2, but I still enjoy the story. Moved from main PC to Steam Deck for this one and it feels right at home.

Perhaps I need to get in control of my FOMO and enjoy older games first instead of… Chasing the dragon (badum-tsss)

CalcProgrammer1, do gaming w Steam input gyro aiming feels great
@CalcProgrammer1@lemmy.ml avatar

I started using gyro on the Steam Deck recently. It is pretty good for fine tuning your aim. I have been playing Overwatch with it and while nowhere near keyboard and mouse, it’s noticeably better than gamepad alone. I can still only play a select few characters with it though.

And I can vouch for Stamets in the sense that I am 100% sure that he has no intentions of hogging communities.

Yes and I’m sure everyone thought Stalin wasn’t going to hog Eastern Europe. Look how that turned out!

Thekingoflorda,
@Thekingoflorda@lemmy.world avatar

Except that we can stop giving communities to him at any point. Google the slippery slope fallacy.

Stamets,
@Stamets@lemmy.world avatar

My guy, I have 6 meme communities under my belt. I’m not controlling anything serious. Also comparing me to Stalin is a bit insane considering the worst I could do is ban someone. Moreover, I actively look for others to work with and do not like being a moderator. I do it because no one else does but it’s stressful and I would very much rather just post shit.

hogmomma, do games w Fuck Ubisoft.

Genuine curiosity, why does it matter which platform it comes out on? Asking from a comlnsole-only point of view. I only game on PS5, so I’ll never get to play Xbox-only games. But if you’re on a PC, you can just get the other platform?

wildcardology,

Too many launchers nowadays. It’s becoming like movies and tv streaming services.

MaximilianKohler,

It’s inconvenient for sure, but monopolies are worse.

Kedly,

Steams competition is worse than a steam monopoly. Im not giving Ubi or EA or Epic money for their shitty ass store fronts and anti consumer bullshit

Pwnmode,

Those companies have changed their own launcher so many times as well that it doesn’t give me any hope that they will continue to exist or continue to let me borrow the games I bought from them.

cottonmon,
@cottonmon@lemmy.world avatar

From the last time I had to use EA’s launcher, I still couldn’t easily pick an install location. It’s incredible how shitty it is.

TwilightVulpine,

People say that theoretically but not only Steam doesn’t stop anyone from selling in other places, it delivers better services than any other platform (except maybe GOG that has the big benefit of being DRM-free)

The Steam “monopoly” ends up being less detrimental than the “competition” of locking each game to a different platform.

wildginger,

If it was only on their launcher I wouldnt care. Its the little exclusivity deal on epic that annoys me.

Its one thing to only sell your stuff on your own personal store. Thats fine, whatever. But to create fake exclusivity on pc? Nah fuck off dude, especially from ubisoft

potustheplant,

It’s “exclusive” on a different free platform that doesn’t have any extra requirements. Sure, it’s worse than steam in some ways but choosing not to play the game because it’s only on Epic is pretty dumb, honestly.

wildginger,

Choosing not to use epic branded things because of the companies pretty nasty decisions and financial backers is completely justified. The world is not always about getting things for free.

B0NK3RS, do games w Fuck Ubisoft.
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

It will be because of the “First Run” deal that Epic offers, so you’ll get to play in 6 months. I don’t blame the studio for doing it though but it’s not ideal for some.

Aielman15, (edited ) do games w Xbox Developers Direct
@Aielman15@lemmy.world avatar

Direct link: Xbox - Developer_Direct 2024

1:22 - Obsidian Entertainment, Avowed. Release date: Fall 2024.

They show the game’s world, the combat system, and touch a bit on the quest system and dialogue options.

9:22 - Ninja Theory, Senua’s Saga Hellblade II. Release date: May 21, 2024.

They talk about the story and theme of the game, show some cutscenes, and touch a bit on the combat system. They also delve into the sound design, and some behind-the-scenes about the setting and motion capture.

18:04 - Square Enix, Secret of Mana. Release date: Summer 2024.

They talk about the combat system, monster design, and show a glimpse of the mount travelling across the open world. The final segment is dedicated to the soundtrack, and how it changes to fit the moment-to-moment gameplay.

25:12 - Oxide, Ara History Untold. Release date: Fall 2024.

They talk about wanting to revolutionize the genre. They show procedurally generated biomes, and mention the attention to detail that went into crafting different cultures and societies from all around the world. The system is deep, requiring the player to explore and make choices that will change the society and the world around them to achieve different win conditions. No mention of Xbox, so I guess it’s still a PC-only release, at least for now.

33:10 - Machine Games, Indiana Jones and the great circle. Release date: 2024.

Hey, look, Todd Howard makes an appearance. There’s some cutscenes, but they show gameplay as well. It’s a first person adventure game set between Raiders of the lost ark and The last crusade. Dr. Jones is shown exploring ancient ruins, vast deserts, snowy mountains and the Vatican, following the trails of a man who stole a relic from the Marshall College and fighting some nazis along the way. But they also talk about the puzzles, which will take centre stage. Seems cool. The last bit is about the behind-the-scenes of the animators and composers, and they also talk about the other characters that will be part of the story.

Aielman15, (edited )
@Aielman15@lemmy.world avatar

Personal opinion below.

It’s a bit strange that only one has a fixed release date despite all of them supposedly releasing this year, with the biggest offender being Indiana Jones that only has a generic “2024” release date. That being said, they all showed glimpses of gameplay and different environments, suggesting there’s at least a good chunk of the game already built. I could definitively see Indiana Jones being postponed, though (not a prediction, just saying that I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened).

Avowed seems ok. I’m not a fun of first-person fantasy games (I like looking at my character performing sick moves in cool armour), but they certainly know what they are doing and the gameplay looks fun and snappy. Unfortunately, apart from the combat system and one limited character interaction, they didn’t show too much of the gameplay to give me an idea of what the moment-to-moment gameplay will be, so I’ll suspend my judgement on this one for the moment while I keep waiting for more info.

Senua’s really good, but I never had any doubt about this one. It looked good when they first showed it a few years back, and it somehow looks ever better every time, despite this being the third or fourth trailer I’ve seen in as many years. It gives me the impression they really care about crafting as much a polished game as they can. I’m very optimistic about this one.

I love that they spent half the time dedicated to Secret of Mana talking about the cute critters. I loved every second of it, I’m a sucker for cute animals lol. Unfortunately I always find action JRPGs to be hit and miss: sometimes the game drags just too much and the gameplay ends up boring me before I finish the game. I’m not talking about this game in particular, it’s just a generic statement on the genre, and it’s just a “me” thing, feel free to disagree. Anyway, I’ll keep my eyes on this.

I always love strategy games, so I’m curious about Ara History Untold, which I hadn’t heard before today. I’m not going to lie, I was not entirely impressed, but it got me curious.

About Indiana Jones, I’m already looking forward to playing it, no doubt! I hope the focus will be on puzzles and exploration, as they promised, instead of combat, but I am hopeful they’ll do a decent job.

AnonTwo, do games w What is the next "grown up game" now that Minecraft only goes for children?

I don't recall it ever being considered a grown up game though. Even when Minecraft first came out most of the people I played with was more interested in playing WoW. I think League of Legends was around that time too.

edit: yeah 2009 was mid wrath of lich king, cataclysm didn't come out until 2010. So that was way too huge a year for WoW to not be pulling most of the older players.

haui_lemmy,

The main reason I stumbled across minecraft was the fact that I had stopped playing games mostly at that point and only played console if at all. When minecraft started, I read about it in a tech magazine and had bought a new computer recently for writing resumes I think. Thats why I wasnt caught up by wow I think.
