Haven’t really found anything particularly interesting from this year, so I’ve been playing mostly older games: my favorites were probably Trails from Zero/Azure and Chrono Trigger.
Some games I’m mixed on were Final Fantasy XIV and Metaphor ReFantazio. Both of them have parts I really enjoy, but also feel like they never reach the heights they could, both in gameplay and writing.
Obligatiry but: Have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV which has an expanded free trial that you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award-winning HEAVENSWARD and STORMBLOOD expansions up to level 70 for free with no restrictions on playtime? Now available on XBOX series X & S! Sign up and enjoy Eorzea today!
I only started the free trial recently, 100 or so hours in. I’m somewhere before the ultima weapon fight. It’s currently on pause because other games took over my life.
Ultima Online the OG mmorpg. There’s a private run server that launched 6 years ago and took the community by storm. They’ve reworked almost everything and it’s amazing. Outlands is the name of the server. UO outlands is like the UO2 we never got.
I dunno if it counts as an MMORPG but Warframe has sunk its claws back into me and I can't get it out of my head. The new update is mindblowing in many ways and I'm so into whatever the devs keep cooking if they continue like this.
It's a tough game to get into but I've been playing it on and off for a decade now and there's nowhere I'd rather be
Just completing the main quests afaik, if it's only been a year then there shouldn't be too many.
They actually went back and reduced the painful grinds for some of the previous stuff, like crafting railjack/necramechs and most syndicates are now much easier to progress.
Me: I wonder what Will Wright is up to these days?
Wikipedia:
At GalaVerse on December 11, 2021, Wright announced a new project, in partnership with Gala Games, called VoxVerse. Wright said VoxVerse will be a blockchain game, where players will be able to create areas to explore and interact with and share these with other players of the game, incentivizing creators through the ability to trade or sell their works as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) using cryptocurrency. Wright stated that the use of blockchain and NFTs are mechanisms needed to support the vision he has, but has no interest in selling NFTs directly to players as other blockchain games or NFT schemes have had done in the past.
once got interviewed by a guy who used to be lead dev on the classic F1 games (pre EA) and nowadays he just runs a team that makes horse racing simulations for casinos.
Not really into MMORPGs, but I’ve been trying The Finals and it’s pretty cool. Like the destruction of Battlefield mixed with the movement of Apex Legends and maybe a light touch of Rainbow Six: Siege or COD. Definitely worth the $0.
I’m still playing endless Luanti while waiting for Guild Wars 2 to get SteamDeck verified.
Edit: Downvoter can’t handle that Luanti is an MMO, now. I can’t help that I’m the world’s most accomplished self-hoster. (This is sarcasm, humorously implying that I’m hosting the world’s biggest Luanti instance, such that it qualifies as “massively multiplayer”. Which one might almost believe if they read my post history… I’m pretty active in both the Luanti and self-hosting communities.)
Project: Gorgon is my forever home MMO, I’m not super active currently but am online for events and such. I’ve found it to be the only title on the market that feels like a world you join instead of a game you log in.
