Finished Dredge, and now onto Somerville

EncryptKeeper, do games w What are your favourite trailers?

The undeniable top spot has to go to the Battlefield 1 trailer, which stands at 74m views over the last 8 years.

The Halo 3 Believe trailer is up there as well.

A personal favorite of mine is the God of War: Ascension Super Bowl Ad

Honorable mention goes to a really solid recent trailer as well is the one for the long-awaited release of Satisfactory 1.0

Yeah, I don’t think many devs have ever worked in a kitchen.

thingsiplay,

Those who did, can’t tell anyone anymore.

witx,

Not sure if the Devs are the ones placing things on the map though

Segab,

Level Artists are game devs too

averyminya,

Dev = working on game

Dev = game developer

Dev = whatever fits until further clarification is needed based on context

Game development requires writers, artists, coders, so they’re game devs. Could it be more specific? Sure. Does it always need to be? Certainly not.

I think it’s really cool how many different disciplines go into making a game.

Elden Ring DLC

It should be Balatro

You can’t even open the dishwasher…

  • Schmoo,

    Worked in a few kitchens when I was a teenager and those industrial dishwashers usually have a sink to the right of them and a flat surface to the left so you can slide trays of dishes through them from right to left. The dishwasher itself divides the dirty and clean areas so there’s no cross-contamination. If one were set up so that you just slide the tray in and back out the same way I don’t think that would meet hygiene standards.

    Peter_Arbeitsloser,

    From my experience the front would be towards the wall since the handle (the big pipe going around it, like here is on the back.

    darkmogool,

    Yup, thats exactly, why this one cant’t open

    JakenVeina, do gaming w What do we think will be GoTY and which game do we think should be GoTY?

    I haven’t even played it, and I know it should be Balatro. That game has taken the gaming world by STORM.

    The_Che_Banana, do gaming w Water + hot oil

    Still a better layout than some kitchens I’ve seen/worked in.

    And they boasted about the amazing attention to detail in this game

    JackbyDev,

    I don’t necessarily see the problem. It’s not like every construction is up to code.

    Literally unplayable!

    I played Ori and the Blind Forest which I enjoyed, although I was expecting a metroidvania. The platforming was quite fun and challenging enough and the art looked great.

    I played a bit of Moonring, which seems really good, but I’m probably not used to the genre and found it a bit too confusing to continue.

    I briefly played Marvel Rivals with a friend, I had fun with it in these first few hours, but I haven’t played hero shooters before so it’s early for me to judge. I’m a bit surprised there’s no restrictions on roles in a party, as most matches seem to have 1 tank and 4 dps and as a healer I can’t figure out how to keep everyone alive alone. Hopefully ranked is more balanced.

    Also started playing DnD (5e) with friends. First time, seems fun. I’m playing artificer, planning on specializing to alchemist at lvl 3.

    What genre do you think the game belongs to? Just a normal platformer?

    I would say, while combat is not the focus in the game, it still has all the trappings of a metroidvania.

    _Lory98_,

    More puzzle platformer with progression in the form of abilities you unlock.

    For why I don’t think it’s a metroidvania, it’s because there’s no backtracking when you get a new ability (except for small optional stuff), you start from the center and go to each area in order and the areas themselves are mostly linear.

    At first I was like “WTF does an indie games site have to do with Funko?” then I Googled it…

    Looks like they hosted a BUNCH of infringing games, so Funko, instead of doing the righteous thing and sending them a takedown request, just nuked the whole domain…

    I mean, I don’t blame them for protecting their IP, they just picked a super shitty way to do it.

    I don’t even think they would have needed an official cease and desist… just a friendly note of “Hey, none of this Funko material is licensed, please remove it.”

    Dreyns,

    I blame them. Fair use is a thing and even beside fair use fuck em. copyright are getting more and more stupid by the day.

    jordanlund,

    It’s not fair use to use images and names you have not licensed.

    Bootlicker

    SaltyIceteaMaker,

    buddy as if anyone on here would care about copyright infringement. i guarantee you 90% of users on here pirate all their stuff

    jordanlund,
    @jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

    Well, if you care about an indie gaming site being shut down for copyright violations, yeah, you might want to actually care about copyright infringement.

    What they were doing here though was supporting developers profiting off someone elses IP. It would be like, I dunno, I started an independent Superman movie and was fundraising off that. It’s a little different from piracy.

    In the case of the Five Nights at Freddies game, the developer is infringing on not one but TWO properties.

    Petter1,

    Fair use is country dependent. But here is the US definition:

    www.copyright.gov/fair-use/index.html

    And from switzerland:

    theswissquality.ch/understanding-the-legal-doctri…

    umbrella,
    @umbrella@lemmy.ml avatar

    yes it is.

    jordanlund,
    @jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

    No, it isn’t.

    copyright.psu.edu/copyright-basics/fair-use/

    “In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include—

    the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;

    the nature of the copyrighted work;

    the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and

    the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.”

    So, me, making a fan page for FunkoPop versions of the Five Nights at Freddies characters and using their images? THAT’S fair use.

    Me charging money for a fan game based on the same Funko versions of those characters is NOT fair use.

    “Section 107 of the Copyright Act gives examples of purposes that are favored by fair use: “criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, [and] research.””

    umbrella,
    @umbrella@lemmy.ml avatar

    legal != moral

    also it was done by their users, not them.

    jordanlund,
    @jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

    Fortunately our laws aren’t about what’s moral or not. You need religious police for that.

    The correct process would have been to issue a takedown request, then go after the domain if nothing was done, they just jumped the gun.

    umbrella,
    @umbrella@lemmy.ml avatar

    what i mean by moral, is about things being fair or not, and this is clearly not.

    see, the fact that they can jump the gun, but the end users cant is the problem here. even the correct process is very biased towards big companies because they can afford a lawyer army to harass people with weaponized bureaucracy.

    who cares besides them anyway? they cant sue everyone.

    theonlytruescotsman,

    I blame them for protecting their IP like a old white person protects their property value by shooting at any black person that moves into the neighborhood.

    cryptiod137,

    But they didn’t send a C&D, they sent an AI automated phishing report about a fan page for an actual licensed Funko game.

    They weren’t address copyright anything, even if it was there.

    jordanlund,
    @jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

    Hence the “super shitty way to do it”. ;)

    Bezier,
    @Bezier@suppo.fi avatar

    That’s not just a shitty way of doing it, it’s a fraudulent accusation of something unrelated.
