After having finished The Last of Us and Remnant 2, I am doing another playthrough of Death Stranding.

ThirdWorldOrder, do gaming w Thank you Skövde

Valheim and Satisfactory are masterclass. GOAT simulator is good for 6 year olds. Raft was kind of dull be entertaining with multiplayer. V Rising I didn’t really care for, but haven’t played since it was first available on Steam

dethedrus,

Valheim was amazing. But it’s faltered so badly in the past 2 years that I’m just sad. Very sad.

ByteOnBikes,

Did it falter?

While I disagree with how long they’re been in early access especially when other games are in early access and doing it better… The updates were still pretty impressive. The new biomes were pretty interesting.

dethedrus,

They’ve gotten progressively more poorly thought out though.

Mistlands is glorious, but so fogged in as to be essentially invisible. I resorted to a mod to increase the value of the wisp.

Ashlands is just a brutal, unfun grind. Not hard, just relentless especially with endless pop-in of enemies. Not to mention even more horrendous performance… 20fps on a very high end system is abysmal (rtx 4090, nvme drive, etc).

ThirdWorldOrder,

I bought it the very day it came out for no real reason and fell in love with it. Put about 500 hours in it before any updates happened. Played a little since then but those higher tier biomes are pretty brutal. Gonna wait until it’s 1.0 before jumping in again. Best $20 ever

dethedrus,

Same boat here my friend.

1000+ hours, lots of intricate builds. Post Ashlands has been miserable.

With all that, still the best $20 I’ve ever spent in 43 years of gaming.

ThirdWorldOrder,

Ah man you’re my age. Check out UFO 50. Second best ~$20 ($25) I’ve spent

dethedrus,

Or I could just play some sweet Master of Magic (DOS version)… a game so beloved it’s still getting actively modded some 30 years later!

I have such a ridiculous backlog to play. Such guilt.

ThirdWorldOrder,

I remember that game with the purple box. When I was 13 I worked in a computer store and remember thinking the box was pretty cool.

I played it finally around 2010 but kind of bounced off since I had no idea what I was doing lol. I can see why it still has a following like HOMM

dethedrus,

It defined a genre. And had some pretty advanced concepts for the time (the first game I played with right-click help pop-ups).

It’s still being worked on, mostly via Caster of Magic. The ‘reboot’ is OK, but a bit too slavish in copying the UI issues.

Rai,

I love survival games but both my partner and I hated Raft.

Valheim is one of the best survival games ever. Love it.

ThirdWorldOrder,

Survival games are my jam. Colony builders and Chivalry 2 otherwise.

What are your favorite survivals? If I went with a top 3 it would probably be Icarus, Valheim and 7D2D

Rai,

Never played Icarus, will look into it!

Palworld was surprisingly fun. I think Valheim is actually my number one, followed by Enshrouded.

ThirdWorldOrder,

Palworld is a lot of fun. Much different than a lot of survivals since I was never into Pokémon. Enshrouded I played on release for a little bit. Gonna sound weird but I the building turned me off a bit and the combat i felt a little awkward. I know a lot of people love it so it’s like a me thing.

Icarus is really cool. I refunded it initially because I felt it was janky but they have released an update every single week since launch. Picked it up again at the start of summer and I have like 300+ hours in it. It’s so good.

echodot,

I’m absolutely terrible at Chivalry 2 but I have to admit, I don’t mind. It’s just fun running around with so many other people.

ThirdWorldOrder,

I was really bad. So bad that I only played archery and even got archery class over level 30. My brother always tops the leaderboards and he came over one day and showed me how to play. Basically, make sure you’re in third person and we use either the battle axe or executioners axe. I’m now regularly at the top of the boards.

If you ever want to join up with us let me know. We do the 40 man mixed

FlihpFlorp,

V rising is different from when it first came out in terms of how some mechanics work like tracking bosses

Powers and spells are way different on how you unlock them tho and for the better

ThirdWorldOrder,

It’s been a while but I remember I was annoyed with something to do with having to find blood. I know that’s really stupid considering it’s a vampire game. Also the top down view i have a hard time with these days since I played so much Diablo 1+2 back in the day

I’m excited to see these reviews, pretty hyped for this game

Just finished Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Got it five years ago but got frustrated and uninstalled it. Then I played it on-off for some time. But after lots of tries I got the final boss killed. Yes, there is an option for New Game Plus but nope, time to play something else. Brilliant game, hard but rewarding.

I’ve been playing UFO 50 with NES controllers, and CRT filter high, it’s been a blast.

I’ve played the multi-player games with my kids, they love them.

Also my kids have been playing the single player games by themselves, it’s amazing to watch them play games like the ones I grew up with.

Anticorp, do games w Deadlocked is one of the funnest games I've played in a while

It’s single player, but have you tried Baldur’s Gate 3 yet? I have around 400 hours in the game. It’s probably the best game I’ve ever played.

Pro tip: use a controller. The experience is much better with a controller.

cimmerian,

The controller tip is insane. Use mouse and keyboard

Anticorp,

I strongly disagree, but that might be because I started playing on PS5 and didn’t move to PC until over a hundred hours in. Movement and interaction with the environment just seems a lot more immersive to me with the controller than with a mouse.

GoodEye8,

The controller experience is really well thought through and the game is definitely playable with the controller. That said, I still chose kb+m because I felt like I got a better overview of a situation and the options I had in that situation, but I could see why someone would think the controller option is more immersive.

Are there others of these for different games? As far as I can see some of the connection types in the legend never appear (or I’m just blind)

kunegis,

Yes! There’s Monkey Island 1–3, linked from the bottom of https://networkscience.wordpress.com/2021/03/13/game-dependency-graph-day-of-the-tentacle/

Paradachshund,

You’ve sent me down a rabbit hole with these. Super cool!

I love the idea of a silly game like Goat Simulator being embedded in the street.

echodot,

I honestly thought it was just an asset flip that turned out to be kind of funny and so was tolerated I didn’t realize that it was made by the same people that made Satisfactory.

fushuan,

It’s all you said, but it’s also a product of it’s time. Iirc when it release there was an increasing amount of simulator games, and goat simulator pokes fun to all of those while having tons of silly references to the contemporary things.

The successors don’t have much of s point to me tbh.

Megaman_EXE,

The second game (goat simulator 3) is actually a ton of fun to play with friends. It has couch co-op! Which is amazing nowadays.

hex,

It’s a silly asset dump that has incredible depth!

Oh, hey! Another Ratchet: Deadlocked fan in the wild!

No wait…

black_lugia,

Honestly, the pal versions name “ratchet: gladiator” is more fitting.

Really cant wait to play this game eventually. Very excited it’s being praised

I gotta vent a little about Jedi Survivor - I really did not enjoy it much at all and am surprised it was so critically lauded. The combat aims for souls-like but is way too twitchy and glitchy to make it feel fun and rewarding. I came out of 60% of combat encounters feeling bored, 20% feeling relieved that some erratic imbalance or technical tomfoolery didn’t make me repeat it, and 10% feeling frustrated for the same reason but on the other side.

The same core issues affected the bosses too. I didn’t feel like the game earned my dedication to “solving the puzzle” the way games like Elden Ring and Returnal do.

Exploration was mostly fine in a zone-out kind of way but grew quite stale by the end, being the same vertical platforms and grapple spots on every section of every world. And the story too was just too out of focus. The whole Tanalorr thing was a late first-act development completely divorced from the course of the opening, and there was never a clear or necessary enough idea of why they wanted to get there to justify it becoming a priority to drive the story.

spoilerBy the time they were trying to chase down the last compass, they’d garnered enough attention from the raiders and the empire that it no longer felt like a hidden secret. And the fact that all Cal had to do to get there was press a button to align the arrays…how long will they be safe on Tanalorr before the empire figures that out? It simply never felt like it was worth the trouble everyone was going to for it.

I still like the characters, but I was desperate to be done by the time I was fighting a notable turn-of-the-second-act boss, whose appearance elicited an eyeroll rather than excitement. I set the game to story mode at that point and just rushed the ending.

While that was going on though, I did play Animal Well all the way through (“layer 1” anyway), and that was extraordinary fun.

Oh, I also tried out the Metaphor Refantazio demo and that feels incredibly promising, especially with the incredible reviews it’s getting today.

Played some helldivers 2, got to impossible difficulty. I’ve been off and on the game, still have fun with it, I play it casualy.

Wanted to play some kind of digital TCG but the one I used to play LOR now focuses on PVE, which is not a bad thing but having some good PVP matches would be fun. So I’m on search of another to play casually.

I've been trying to cross off some of my "in progress" games, ones I've been working on off and on over the past few months, so I can make room for new ones.

After sitting on it for months, I finally got around to finishing my second playthough of Lies of P. I went for the "Real boy" ending, and man, I really had to fight the urge to start a third round. I really like the combat and 99% of the characters.

Cleaned up the rest of the map for Mad Max, with the exception of collecting all the vehicles, since that's kind of a pain to do. Much like Lies of P, I was a bit tempted to start another playthough lol.

Maxed out all the glyphs for my Scorcerer in Diablo 4: Season 5, so it's set aside until I come back from a planned vacation this week. I'm not sure how I'll handle a new season and a new dlc, AND a new leveling system all at the same time, but I'll figure it out.

umami_wasbi, do games w Any game with a forced stealth section needs to have it as a warning so you know not to buy crap.

Personally, I hate unskippable cutscenes, but I won’t call it crap and not buy from it.

I’m playing fallout London. Super impressive for a mod. I’m really enjoying it.
