Slay the Spire and Monster Train are great singleplayer card games that can be played with just the mouse.

Pretty much any turn based RPG is on the table, I can easily recommend Octopath Traveler 2.

You can also play story-driven games like Telltale games and Pheonix Wright, those are pretty fun.

hactar42,

Slay the Spire works great on a touchscreen as well. It runs great on my Surface.

However, there is a weird bug if playing on a Surface, that I feel obligated to let other know when recommending this game. You have to have the keyboard attached for the touchscreen controls to work in Slay the Spire. But you can flip it around the back and still play with the touchscreen.

rockerface,

I have played Slay the Spire on mobile and it’s pretty well made

chili1553,

Slay the spire would make a broken arm recovery feel like time travel, lol.

I also play civ 5/6 with the next action button bound to an extra button on my mouse.

Probably a good time for OP to invest in a multi button mouse as well

Bluescluestoothpaste, do games w Europa Universalis IV and Orwell: Keeping an Eye on You free on Epic Games this week

Am I crazy or is europa universalis just a worse version of crusader kings? Love crusader kings but mever tried EU because it just seems like the same game with less features?

lvxferre,
@lvxferre@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s the same engine, but the focus is different: CK is about the ruling dynasty, EU is about the country itself. Time period is also different (EU4 goes from 1444 to 1821),

A good example of that is that in EU4 your country can be the junior partner of a personal union, where it needs to fight against its rulers to get independence. You won’t see anything similar in CK3, because you are the ruling dynasty.

Bluescluestoothpaste,

I guess, idk that seems less fun to me lol. And in CK3 you can absolutely be a vassal of a larger kingdom and fight (or negotiate) for your independence.

And in CK3 you can absolutely be a vassal of a larger kingdom and fight (or negotiate) for your independence.

Yes but you can’t be a junior partner of a personal union, since this means that you (the dynasty) would be fighting yourself. On the other hand in EU4 this works fine since you’re the Senate government/country/state itself, not the king or the dynasty. It was just an example on the different focus, mind you.

On EU4 being less fun than CK3: personally I like EU4 better because I care far more about groups in Modern times interacting on a global level than individuals in Mediaeval times interacting on a regional level. And EU4 always involves some sort of “if I did this in real life I’d be a monster” decision, that actually makes me understand a lot of the shit that governments do, such as culturecide or backstabbing/Realpolitik.

But there’s no “right” choice, it’s different strokes for different folks.

NightOwl, do gaming w Please Give Me Some Alternatives to Genshin Impact and Spider-Man (PS4) on PC/Android

I found Saints Row 4 a fun super hero video game and the powers of super speed and flight made traveling fun over conventional means. The side quests were something I enjoyed too.

johntash,

SR3 and SR4 were both great. I think SR3 only had the super power stuff from a dlc though? They both have some unique quests that I really enjoyed.

NightOwl,

Yeah, Saint Row 3 had the super powers only in the DLC. That is my favorite Saints Row. Although I’ve only played 3 and 4. The Genki side missions were my favorite in 3.

johntash,

The genki side missions were great. I just remember going into SR3 not expecting a lot and then ended up finishing the game (rare for me) and actually enjoyed it a lot.

I don’t think I ever finished one of the GTA games, I usually got bored fairly quickly.

Blackmist,

SR2 was the peak. Everything after that felt like a lazy copy paste exercise.

FlickOfTheBean,

Sr3 was the Skyrim to Sr2’s Morrowind. Shinier but simplified. A good entry game to get to Sr2 imo.

(Personally I wasnt a fan of Sr4 because it felt like it was just a really expensive dlc. Didn’t really add anything to Sr3 imo, but since there is evidence of people liking it here, I’m not going to come after it too hard. It might be a great entry title for getting to Sr3 to get to Sr2 eventually, and imo that’s good enough for me to be happy about it getting mentioned)

gamer, (edited ) do games w PC Game Recommendation for a Broken Arm?

The recently released Baldur’s Gate 3 can be played with one hand perfectly fine. Your arm will likely heal before you finish it.

Edit: just noticed that you said you want keyboard only, in which case BG3 might not be ideal since it’s mostly mouse based. I think you can customize it to play with keyboard only since it has gamepad support, but don’t know what that’d be like.

There’s no fast paced clicking required though, so you could try to adapt to left handed mousery if you really want to play that one.

aesopjah,

I second BG3. And just do mouse with off-hand. Or set up keyboard to act as mouse.

Darkest Dungeon is all about the mouse.

Deestan,

One of my go-to games when trying rock a baby to sleep with one arm.

Contramuffin, do games w PC Game Recommendation for a Broken Arm?

Crypt of the NecroDancer can be played with one hand. Inputs are timed (due to it being a rhythm game), but you should be fine because the only inputs are WASD (or arrow keys if you prefer). It’s a roguelike, so there’s not much in the way of storytelling and it’s pretty challenging, but I feel like the gameplay is pretty puzzle-esque. If it’s any argument, I’m a huge fan of puzzles and I really enjoyed NecroDancer

MortBoBort, do games w PC Game Recommendation for a Broken Arm?

Caves of Qud is a really neat turn based roguelike that kinda focuses on exploration. It’s a bit hard to get into but if you do it’s really neat. Very very keyboard friendly, its my go-to game on my laptop.

It has difficulty modes that are… Less hard lol

DianaSt75, do gaming w What's the age cut off for socially acceptable gaming

I have wildly diverse hobbies, so I usually manage to mention something that people around me find weird. Gaming is one of them, and since I am not just your age but also female, I have received tons of strange comments over the years. At least my being somewhat fluid in English isn’t making me stand out anymore!

I think computer-related activities are seen different by our age group since we didn’t exactly grow up with it, or at least most of us didn’t. I know I was already a teenager when my parents bought us kids a computer, and that one needed inputs in BASIC and was textbased only. And while several of my classmates had similar experiences plus parents who insisted this was useful to know for our futures (and boy, where they right!), most of us still preferred to spent our time elsewhere. I see the difference in my kids, who grew up with not only computers and related technology, but also the internet. My son occasionally played board games via an internet platform by the time he was five (under supervision, of course), and as such, video games are much more part of daily life for that generation.

In my eyes, the decades-long discussion on when to give your child his/her first mobile phone has similar roots: We were used to a slower pace of life, that as a child you carry a few coins so that you can call your parents from a pay phone in an emergency, and otherwise you had to be at home at a specified time. Play dates with school mates were discussed in person at school, and so forth. Our children are dealing with far faster pace, discussion with class mates only occasionally take place eye-to-eye, and their schedules have become much more complex and fluid. Also, they grow up knowing everybody and anybody carries a phone in their pocket, and of course they want the same. Technology is integrated into their lifes from the start, and that means gaming is far more acceptable as a pastime.

TIN,

Very thoughtful response, thanks!

HidingCat, do games w PC Game Recommendation for a Broken Arm?

Anything that is turn-based will work really, or doesn't rely on a real-time mechanic.

I do suggest looking at a small trackball that you can use in the meantime. It'll be useful for the times when you need a pointing device in a smaller space, for whatever reason.
