For coop games with dialog I really loved how Baldur’s Gate 3 let everyone see the dialog choices and click on them to vote for what they would want. The player in the dialog didn’t have to choose it, but they could see and it let every player feel like they were a part of every conversation instead of just watching.

Those loading screens that recapped the story in Arkham City.

Give me a cheat menu or something after beating the game. Let me run around as God causing chaos and break the game. Easy extra hours.

Plume,

And let us skip the damn hour long tutorial on replays, while you’re at it!

Proper benchmarking tools in the main menu. Even better if there's a demo for this.

The option to hide helmets. I like to spend a lot of time making my character, I don’t want to hide it under some doofy looking helmet.

Maybe go one step further and let us hide any and all pieces of armor.

Plume,

The ability to wear a cosmetic armor over your actual armor in RPGs and the like is on my wish list as well. Terraria does it quite well. :)

I always appreciate when the game allows you to choose how far the camera is from your character, and when they let you pick if you want to play first of third person.

I’ve been pretty psyched for this as someone who consumes a lot of 2D Mario content including Mario Maker and SMW ROM hacks. Glad to see basically everyone saying it feels solid

However, this quote from Digital Spy,

Instead, Wonder’s strongest moments are when it takes a breather, taking the time to set the scene while letting the platforming do the talking.

Is something I was kinda worried about as well. The wonder effects that were shown seem cool, but I really want the platforming to take the lead role. SMW ROM hacks show us that pure platforming can still be creative as hell. I wonder how SMBW will stack up to the likes of, say, GPW3

LethargyTheGhost,

Or more mainstream, Mario Maker also shows that

terry_tibbs, do games w What game did you find in a bargain bin that turned out to be awesome? For me it was Z by Bitmap Brothers which I got at Zellers for $0.47

Z is a fantastic game but some of the levels infuriated me, no matter how well I played the AI seemed to have an answer… Turned out the difficulty goes up a notch after each loss since the devs expected you to git gud.

Krudler,

Oh wow, I wasn’t aware of that!

I remember initially falling in love with the concept of the game and the humor and the graphics, but then feeling absolutely crestfallen that I couldn’t accomplish anything in the game!

But then I had my very first big gamer epiphany - you need to be aggressive in Z! So not only was it one of my big surprise favorites, I had one of my most rewarding aha! moments as a gamer with it

I don’t remember where we got it, but back in the old days when everyone was trying to replicate the success of Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 & 2, we had School Tycoon. It’s certainly no Rollercoaster Tycoon since it was specifically aimed at a younger audience, but I find it still enjoyable enough when you want to just kill time.

Definitely better than Deep Sea and Space Tycoon. That’s a definite. We had those as well and I could never figure out how the hell to actually properly play them.

Elder millennial, here. One of the weird things about the 90s was cereal boxes marketed to little bastards like me at the time would often have some kind of toy included in it.

PC gaming was kind of in its infancy and growing rapidly in popularity, so eventually the inevitable happed: a cereal company promoted their cereal by shoving a fucking CD into it, that little bastards like me lost their shit over, installed, and played the snot out of.

Chex Quest.

It was literally just Doom, except reskinned so the demons were boogers, and everything else was a fucking Chex cereal advertisement.

AND IT WAS AMAZING! lol

Best box of cereal my parents ever bought. Not a bargain bin, but I feel like “in a box of cereal” fits the spirit of the question.

Staple_Diet,

When I grew up AoE was put in cornflakes.

spearz,

/r/nocontext

Staple_Diet,

Cornflakes is cereal. AoE is Age of Empires, you might have heard about it. The comment I replied to was talking about games being released in cereal boxes. Where is the context lacking?

spearz,

…if you read that comment without context, it sounds funny? It did to me, anyway.

Staple_Diet,

Ah, I see.

Hey that was me, too! Definitely worth $4 for that game, and a free box of cereal, lol.

Rhynoplaz,

Gonna vouch for Chex quest. That game was SOLID! 😂

batmaniam,

That had to be wild to work on. You get brought into the kickoff meeting for what you assume is going to be some soulless marketing gimick, then they start laying it out.

It had a plot, a decent amount of levels. There was a good amount of heart that went into that.

XbSuper,

I got the original roller coaster tycoon from a cereal box! I got other games too, but that’s definitely the best (by far), and only one I remember.
