PULSAR is pretty amazing if you have a few friends to play with. It really feels like actually running a spaceship together. You can shout things like “Divert all power to main turrets” and actually mean that.

FrozenLama,

Pulsar is the game that I feel like was so close to being a great game but they gave up on it before it got there. Working together to run the ship is awesome but the world is SOOO empty. Like at least add mod support so folks can help or something. I want to love the game but that always stops me.

isosphere,

I’m too early in the game to know this well, but I feel the lack of mod support. This feels like a game that would really thrive with community support, but they have no plans on supporting mods or open sourcing it. They are currently working on a new project that they haven’t elaborated on yet.

Still, I got this game for $14 and if I can find some people to play with I’m absolutely going to get my money’s worth - this kind of game just doesn’t exist with this level of depth. I love the technical detail of how the ship works on and how the systems interact with each other.

isosphere,

I just got this game and I’m having a blast, this is the style of game I’ve been hungry for for a long time.

If it is “Deckard” I hope they fix the current snares with inside-out tracking. Also hope I don’t have to wait two years between EB Games restocks here in Aus.

June,

Inside out is both excellent and awful. But meta fixed the tracking issues by putting inside out tracking on the controllers. Do that and add a depth sensor to the headset and tracking should be damn near perfect.

It’s the fucking engine they won’t let go off

BobKerman3999,

Unfortunately there’s not much choice in 3d game engines anymore. I’m not sure I want an unreal engine monopoly, btw.

tormeh,

It does seem to be the best one, although CPU parallelism seems awful. No one wants to use CryEngine, and Godot and Unity is only used by indies

Zahille7,

Source still seems pretty good these days. I haven’t played HL: Alyx yet but Source 2 looks way beefier.

gamer, do gaming w State of gaming on immutable Linux distros?

I’ve been on Silverblue (well, Kinoite) for quite a while now, and the only issue I remember having was that I had to use flatseal once to give steam access to an external drive when adding a new library folder.

Everything seems to work fine. I’ve never been prevented from playing a game when I wanted to due to immutability or flatpak issues.

AlmightyTritan,

I am on VanillaOS and it’s a pretty similar situation, although I will say the immutable nature makes it a little harder to find error logs and such.

brickfrog, do piracy w Some noob questions about seedboxes

May also want to try !seedboxes and !seedboxes

Whatbox (and a few other seedbox companies) offer seedboxes in the US. How can they do that without being immediately shut down? Do they have some kind of restrictions that could cause problems with using a US-hosted seedbox?

AFAIK they do honor DMCA removal requests so if you happen to load a public torrent there & receive a notice Whatbox staff will ask you to delete that data. You could contact their support on that if you’re not sure on their procedure.

How safe is paying via your real payment details?

I’ve only used crypto for those things. But presumably if you find a pre-paid credit card they accept you could buy it with cash & then pay the seedbox provider with that.

How safe is connecting via your real IP

The seedbox service itself is essentially a VPN so you either trust it, or you don’t. You could just as well ask how safe is it to connect to your VPN, or if you need to use another VPN to connect to your VPN :P

One thing to keep in mind is that seedbox services probably do log more data than the typical no-log VPN.

akwd169,

Those two communities have 3 subs total, and two of them are me (just subbed now)

brickfrog,

That’s not the total subscriber count. Sounds like you’re viewing the subscriber count from your specific instance at lemmy.sdf.org - The 3 subs you mention are subs from users at lemmy.sdf.org specifically.

To see the total subscriber count you’d have to view the communities home instance directly e.g.

WalrusDragonOnABike, do games w What do you think is a good required completion time for video games? What examples come to mind of games that felt just right?

Have a hard time dedicating consistent time with a single game because of other things like work. So any long story-driven game is gonna be a pass for me. If I need to remember a town name, map, or a character name and its more than a couple hours, its a nope. I simply have a hard time with dedicating the time to something like that, even if I enjoy it. MMORPGs or anything with dailies have similar issues.

I mostly tend to play games where I can spend a short period of time in a session and it doesn't matter if I come back to it in months. Over the past year or so, beatsaber and Terraria are the games that have fit that bill for me the most. Have over 1500 hours in Terraria and expect that number to probably grow over in bursts over the next decade.

Astroturfed,

Been really enjoying games like Hades for the same kind of reasons.

InEnduringGrowStrong,
@InEnduringGrowStrong@sh.itjust.works avatar

I love Hades, one of my favorites in recent years.
The gameplay is tight and action packed, the loop is fun, not too long, yet different enough between each run.

There are still tidbits of story and lore, but nothing that really takes time away from actual action.
I guess the absolute opposite would be a Kojima game with 45 min cutscenes, which I usually bounce off hard.

Might be a weird comparison, but the pacing in Hades kinda reminds me a bit of DOOM2016. (Another game I loved.)
Although a completely different setting and top-down roguelike instead of FPS, I get the same action packed vibe out of it.
