We got AoE 1 on the computer as a demo when I was a kid. Think the CD came in a cereal box or something. Played through the same beginner campaign a bunch of times. Was fun.
AoE2 changed the game though. Absolutely amazing. The controls felt so much more fluid and the campaigns were so much fun to play though and see the story. We managed to network all the family computers and would have big family multiplayer battles against the computer (dad carried us kids though).
My brother loved Mythology and while it looked pretty I never really got into it. Something about it felt slower paced and kinda hand-holdy.
AoE3 was just weird. You had a home base that persisted through games, how is that fair? And playing cards were involved somehow? The ragdoll physics was cool though.
AoE4 is okay I guess. I participated in the beta program because I was so excited for them to produce something that might surpass AoE2 but… Naah. It just doesn’t have the right feel to it. Very pretty though. They keep coming out with new content but until it feels right (something about the way the window scrolls and zooms) I just cant enjoy it.
What I don’t like is that you need to finish the day for it to save
Also the wording about what happens to crops at the end of season should change
But otherwise, it’s something to do, but it is getting a bit click and pointy really. I wish you should pair up with characters more and walk around with then
Have another play session with my partner planned tonight! We play with all kinds of mods and the sheer amount of them means that we’re nowhere near to having done and seen everything yet! Especially with the new content update that came out a couple months ago, which is amazing in itself, honestly.
When did you last play? I literally just played the game and sometimes just didn’t place some services- I think a good tip rn is just advance from a small city quickly, as later in the game it’s broken and gives you unlimited money as your people somehow make insane amounts of money. But in the early game advancing is your friend to gain cash from the advancements
That’s what I meant with at the beginning. As soon as I started making more profit than losses, it became very easy, which also made it kind of boring.
Agreed. First playthrough should 100% be vanilla. I do mod a few things on subsequent playthroughs though. Personally I like to give myself infinite paragon/renegade (through a save editor), because I like being able pick a renegade option when I think my Shepard would do that, without having to worry about maxing my paragon for important choices. I also prefer playing biotic classes because they’re more fun, but want a sniper rifle, so I mess with the save to give sniper rifle competency to my class in ME1. Finally I’m trying the happy ending mod this playthrough to see if I like it.
It’s honestly fine vanilla, but quality of life wise for ME1, I liked the mod that gave the mako (ground vehicle) infinite boost, and infinite sprinting for all 3.
There's really just a metric ton. I found this video that has a way to install a bunch at once, but just keep in mind there may be some other mod out there you'd like too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Eqg9fDClCM
It really is that way! I've been telling myself it's time for another LE playthrough for a year now but I'll say it again. A modded playthrough is on my LIST! I love the Expanded Galaxy Mod with all my beating heart =)
