I haven’t played wordle since they put the “streak tracker” behind a “paywall”, fuck you all that data is shit you’re keeping from me without my consent anyways, now you want me to pay you for the privilege?

I’m not a huge privacy guy, but when you ask me to pay for the data I provide you, you can get bent.

Weird, in UK and I see my streak before the ad plays. No subscription

taiyang, do games w PSA: Break Your New York Times Games Streak Today.

Oh. Well uh, Mondays puzzle is so easy I already took care of it on the can earlier but I can consider Tuesday I guess.

I’ll break the other ones though, Wordle and Connections are unfun anyway.

lol, I downloaded the original wordle source when NYT bought it. Now I just play locally. It just a simple javascript app.

How would breaking a streak help?

Isoprenoid,

The business logs how often you use the game. They use it as a metric of engagement. If everyone breaks their streak, their marketing department has a melt down.

Oh… sure, okay, done! My streak will remain at 0.

This was the easiest picket line not to cross.

Chronographs,

Yeah I lost all respect for them after it came out that their article on the October 7th attack was all bullshit

PapaStevesy, do games w PSA: Break Your New York Times Games Streak Today.

Should have released this article yesterday, I did them at midnight.

MicroProse has really been filling a niche I’ve missed with these “old style” games. I mean, maybe an odd post to comment this specifically on, because this is and old game, but their recent releases in general seem to harken back to an older era of gaming that I’ve missed.

Hey, maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll get to try their hands at another MechWarrior!

muhyb,

New Empire Earth looks great too.

If I buy a game that requires a launcher I immediately return it and give a very long and detailed description as to why that’s not a product I can buy as I do not own it.

That is called “refund”

Auster, do gaming w A PC Game Launching A Launcher After I've Already Launched It In Steam Should Be A Crime - Aftermath

Launchers should do just that, to launch the game. Doing anything other than that is, before anything, a repurposing of the word.

And regarding this specific game, I didn’t see the whole struggle so I don’t even know which game it is, but in case it is officially sold anywhere DRM-free, I strongly suggest going for that, wherever it may be.

turkalino, do gaming w With Ryujinx Gone, We Can't Trust Nintendo To Be Reasonable - Aftermath

Any info on what exactly the dev got out of the deal? Huge sum of money? Big titty waifu? Unreleased version of Smash with Waluigi?

moreeni,

Likely not getting his life destroyed by a lawsuit

turkalino,

It would be sad if that’s what Nintendo convinced him into believing, because as the article points out, there’s legal precedent for emulators

jol,

Even so, you can’t win a legal battle against Nintendo that easily even with precedent. It will cost you money which you might not have…

bountygiver,

yup, the system is rigged from the start. Big corpos can easily bully an everyday person by stalling the legal process and stack up your legal fees until you cannot afford them and had to settle.

jol,

They have lawyers on staff earning a salary, so stalling literally costs them no extra money.

mindbleach,

Yeah, Bleem won that lawsuit. And the next lawsuit. And the next.

And then they ran out of money.

mindbleach,

They sent goons to his house.

What he got out of it is, they left.

DebatableRaccoon,

Given Nintendork’s history, this wouldn’t surprise me.
