Yeah, another tool like licensing a game engine or procedurally generated content. It will still require a lot of review and revision, custom work to overcome edge cases, and direction to meet your goals.

The expected number was seven million.

When someone is hired to address discrimination and someone reports that they are still being discriminated against, I would hope that the person hired to address discrimination would assume the report of coninued discrimination is correct.

Assuming the best when that is crealy not the situation is just shoving your head in the sand.

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

Note that they believed it enough to raise the concern to someone higher up and that person took the existence of the complaint personally. That is doing exactly what you said, taking the complaint seriously enough to look into it.

Slaps that FOMO part of people's brains.

snooggums,

Yes, and that is the same thing as being paid even if the CEO pretends that it isn't.

snooggums,

Eh, actors and actresses have been in games foe decades just like they have done voices in animated films for decades. Both cases tend to only attract big names to a few games and this reads like the usual ebb and flow of interest from a limited number of people and gaming companies.

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

But they stopped being attorneys so maybe they learned the error of their ways?

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

Online sale have reduced distribution costs and unlimited scaling compared to physical media, so successful games are far more lucrative now than they were and unsuccessful games don't have losses from overproduction and returns from stores.

If selling at the current rate wasn't profitable, gaming companies would have stopped making games by now.

Alternative sources for the No Pronouns mod for Starfield (kbin.social) angielski

In light of Nexus Mods and Mod DB banning the No Pronouns mod for Starfield, I figured I would look around for alternative sources and collect them in one place for others' convenience. This seems like a good place to put them....

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

So in a game with faster than light travel you want realism from some optional character creation choices?

HAHAHAHAHAHA LOSER

"Microtransaction Hell" is my description.

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

Just imagine if they included all the stuff you didn't buy as part of the game instead!

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

I have played several, and the vast majority have been Microtransaction Hell, and many games that are not live service are still consistently updated.

The fact that there are one or two games that do live service without intrusive and annoying microtransactions that are frequently barriers to progression or end up being pay to win doesn't make the description invalid. They are the exceptions that prove the rule.

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

Bullshit. There are tons of games with lots of variety that don't require microtransactions to access.

Especially ones that are mod friendly so extra cosmetics are free for everyone and doesn't cost the developer a dime.

DnD 5e had a license for use that allowed 3rd party companies to make stuff for the game following specific rules, and they did so which of course helped with increasing the popularity of the brand. This license existed due to the backlash from players and 3rd party developers who did not like the 4e licensing which was ridiculously restrictive.

Then WotC/Hasbro decided they wanted more control and put out a draconian revision and also tried to invalidate the existing license using questionable legal logic that wouldn't stand up in court, but would be cost prohibitive for the 3rd party companies to fight in court. This revision also included licensing costs that would drive 3rd party companies out of business. Then they did a revision that tried to make creating a virtual tabletop that could be used with DnD a violation to try and corner the market for WotC's completely non-existent virtual tabletop.

Basically they tried to stop doing the thing they had in place for like a decade to milk an unrealistically high amount of money out of companies that were working with them and tried to force this on extremely short notice. So same thing as reddit and now Unity are doing.

Expect the next version of DnD to be a walled garden again like 4e was and most likely fade out of the public view again.

The Elder Scrolls VI Is at Least Five Years Away, and Is Likely to Launch on PC, Xbox Series X|S Only (wccftech.com) angielski

Despite previous reports revealing the game's 2026 release window, The Elder Scrolls VI is at least five years away and is likely to release, unsurprisingly, only on PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S....

snooggums,

Yeah, but they can make money off Skyrim re-released until then to give them plenty of breathing room on the release date.

We already heard the terrible arguments for intolerance and don't need to rehash it over and over again in every new piece of media.

Treating people being gay as political.

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

Or one of the many, many people involved with development suggested it because it applied to them or someone they knew and the decision was made to include it out of respect for the people involved.

snooggums, (edited )
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

I dunno, being a man, woman, or black person isn't political. Trans, non-binary, etc is, and normalizing it is political, regardless of if it's right or wrong.

Women and black people getting the right to vote and be treated equally has always been "political" you fucking jackass.

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

Like black people trying to get racists to stop using the N-word, right?

Games consoles are infuriatingly exempt from California's otherwise important new right to repair bill (www.pcgamer.com) angielski

California, the biggest state in the US when it comes to both population and the sheer volume of tech companies squeezed into its borders, has just passed the country's most extreme right to repair bill in the US (via Ars Technica). It's the third state to pass such a bill, but goes further than either Minnesota or New York in...

Steam's Oldest User Accounts Turn 20, Valve Celebrates With Special Digital Badges - IGN (www.ign.com) angielski

Some of Steam’s oldest user accounts are turning 20-years old this week, and Valve is celebrating the anniversary by handing out special digital badges featuring the original Steam colour scheme to the gaming veterans....

Eh, I joined knowing full well that I was trading permanent ownership and the risk of losing access if steam failed for the convenience of installing and updating without needing to do every game separately. I wasn't in the habit of trading in games anyway, and if I get an average amount of enjoyment across games then that works out whether I uninstall from steam or throw a box in the trash.

After using it for two decades steam is still the best decision I have made for gaming even of there is still a risk that they could go belly up or remove my games at will with no recourse. The few games I lost access to were online multi-player where the servers shut down, and physicsl media would not have avoided that. On the upside many games that would have lost support over time have always been available to install and run without needing to store physical media, and a combination of sales for lowered prices and a game just being available have made the platform my reliable go to.

Competitors like GoG that offer DRM free versions are another great avenue for people! I even have a couple of games from then, but convenience and consistent reliability has been the reason that I load a game in steam nearly every day even if just for a quick round. Basically the opposite of a hellscape in my experience, but then again I have had mostly reliable internet during that time.

On a side note, I have no idea what steam levels are or whar any of the steam perks stuff is. I just use it for launching games.

@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

This makes me want to play.

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

I was actually being serious, it does make me want to play.

Can I really fill my ship with smuggled plants? Does shooting backpacks launch people into the air? Looks like Skyrim in space and that sounds pretty fun!

snooggums,

Their point is that the engine doesn't show signs of being improved upon during that time and is still stuck feeling like a 20 year old engine.

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

I am really impressed with the game and the post release addressing of issues.

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

Just like tabletop!

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

A mode for creating custom dungeons like in Neverwinter Nights would be fantastic! DM tools would be even better!

I would pay money for that kind of DLC because it wasn't ever on the road map or an expected feature and would add a lot of value.

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

That is just the point where the exponential effects of leveling and introduction of 5e spells that require more DM adjudication are introduced. Together they make coding encounters extremely difficult in tabletop and a complete nightmare to code.

I have no interest in going over level 10 on tabletop as a DM, and can't imagine even trying to write code logic for it.

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

I would say if it is all about the gameplay, like Serious Sam or Doom, then the story doesn't need to be that important and dexisions don't need to matter. But if the story is front and center, like Baldur's Gate and most similar RPGs, the story and how choices impact the story need to be well done so it doesn't feel on rails and replaying it is enjoyable.

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

It's not like Mass Effect was known for it's story and writing.

Playing the matches is fun, since it is just Overwatch. Literally the same gameplay as Overwatch, but with 5 per team instead of 6.

In between is an assault of micro transaction manipulation bullshit that ruins the experience. PvE is hidden behind a paywall, except for the free stuff that is a retread of the seasonal PvE from Overwatch. I know this because I gave it some hours to see if it was as bad as people were saying.

People hate it because it was supposed to be an improvement but instead it was just another attempt to bleed the players dry. It might be the only game I have reviewed negatively on steam because the monetization really is that bad that it ruins the whole game.

snooggums,
@snooggums@kbin.social avatar

How is it obvious that they are talking about horizontal when they also include vertical in the same calculation?

They just don't know the difference between pixels and lines.
