That’s not at all how it works, no. They have a licensing deal with Hasbro to be allowed to make a game with Hasbro’s IP. Hasbro didn’t hire them to make the game.
who’s preparing their own ‘virtual tabletop’ for a while now.
D&D Beyond is not a video game. It’s not even a toolset for a video game. There’s no clash there.
I always suspected it’s not because they won’t, but they can’t due to the licensing issues
This is probably still true, though: according to the release, you won’t be allowed to publish NSFW mods made in the toolset (because apparently that’s legally too close to Larian making D&D porn) even though you’ll still be allowed to do so NOT using the toolset like people have been doing for months.
I’m guessing that not letting people make or change maps and quests is either the same thing or simply just a much bigger undertaking to make a toolset capable of right now 🤷
Why can’t you just set a standing order of “make unit x” or “make unit x while we have gas until we get to 50 of them”? That’s strategy. Having to tab back to a building and manually queue a couple of units every several seconds is just creating busywork for players
I agree completely. Related: have you considered turn based strategy games?
Probably because announcing it would require sharing the reason for it and thus lead to questions about why they and others are still ruining other games with Denuvo…
I originally answered “definitely not the original ones!” ør something tø that effect, but found that it might be needlessly combative, so I changed it to just TIL 😁
which is why most folks are probably not talking about the old games when they say they like wolfenstein and doom
I wouldn’t be so sure about that, what with the “It runs Doom” meme and the fact that most people on Lemmy seem to be old fucks like me who played them when they originally came out 😄
You’re right and I’m sorry for any confusion as I very much intended to blame the human silica packet for his sexual ineptitude and general repulsiveness lol
Yes and no: they were bought by Bayer 5 years ago, so they don’t exist under that name anymore, but I don’t know how much of their worst bullshit they’re still doing under the new name.
For example, I was unable to confirm or rule out whether they’re still doing the suicide crops and food DRM bullshit as Bayer or not…
Have you been spending hours trying to pass a level? Or maybe you are completely addicted to a newly bought game. Do you have a question about a game or would like to share something else? In the Weekly Discussion Thread, you can do it all!...
Not mods per se, but there’s walk-through guides living up to their name by walking you through every step of every puzzle. As someone who loves CRPGs but is absolutely awful at puzzles, they’ve saved me countless hours in BG3 alone, let alone game’s in general.
An example search string would be “Baldurs Gate defiled temple puzzle”
As for the barrels, I can’t find one about those specially, but the Fair Fire mod removes unavoidable fire damage fromsurfaces, so that might be of interest 🙂

I get what you’re saying but FPS specifically are mostly played competitively, so a single player game in THAT specific genre in 2023 sounds like a very bad idea.
Every other genre than FPS needs more games where you’re allowed to only play single player and use tons of mods if you want to without risking being locked out of playing, though.
Fallout New Vegas, Baldurs Gate 3, Skyrim, The Outer Worlds and the older Bioware games are where it’s at for my favorite genre, to name a few examples.
My takeaway is that it’s only original Rogue fans that care about the delineation of the terms. Is there a modern (i.e. post 2000s game) that matches the definition of a roguelike as given in the article?
laying off 1,100 employees as a way to "modernize our organization and get even leaner
Yeah because that’s what we want of the ones in charge of publishing, administering and providing support for some of the most played games in the world now and historically: leanness! The fewer people to take care of important things, the better! 🤦
I know that he’s talking to investors rather than players, but come on! Also, there’s nothing “modern” about stupidly trying to increase profits via mass layoffs without expecting blowback and for quality to suffer. That’s some 1700s bullshit right there.
A literal interpretation of the title would imply that this is a game about something resembling a magical flying reptile using cheats and/or a game trainer.
Never played much GTAV (4 was the last good one as far as I’m concerned, at least so far) but yeah, I loved how RDR2 and RDR Online don’t force one into the other!
It will allow you to create your own experiences in the game by making something completely new or editing existing quests and content. We’re planning on releasing it for free in 2024....
Imagine having specific months every year where you prepare to break and then break (if not the letter then definitely the spirit of) antitrust laws and most people either don’t know or pretend that there’s nothing wrong with it 🤬
You would think so, but for an industry where almost all of the work is location-agnostic, they sure love forcing people to work in offices and cubicles.

In the case of most of the companies affected by the changes, they literally signed up under a different agreement and then Unity changed the terms once they were pretty much locked in and couldn’t change to another engine without serious costs and/or difficulty.
There’s literally no way indie devs are at fault here and yes, blaming them for being victims of corporate fuckery IS taking the side of the corporation fucking them.
This should be illegal, companies should be forced to open-source games (or at least provide the code to people who bought it) if they decide to discontinue it, so people can preserve it on their own....
I believe the founder and first queen of Carthage said that if we don’t learn to circumvent that, we deserve nothing more than we get. She went on to claim that nothing we have is truly ours.
Is it just me or was that Phoenician quite a bit ahead of her time?
