Rentlar,

Oh boy… just heard of Derail Valley and the sound of money flying from my wallet. Since it’s early Access and not on sale I’ll wait a month, but I wishlisted it.

I looooove Transport Fever 2 and many of the management and simulator games.

Rentlar,

Rezone for higher density, lower taxes, pollute the area to lower rent values and give them something else to complain about, change to office/commercial.

High rent complaints don’t really hurt your city’s operation too much, it’s just that it’s a blocker to the businesses’ profitability or residential maintenance and can’t level up.

Rentlar,

…and I need to save my candy for the boss’s boss’s boss which will be the real challenge, of course.

Rentlar,

Yeah it’s been fun. My city is just shy of 200k and it looks nice and smooth on my laptop, so long as you don’t go up too close to any crowded area.

Rentlar,

Can’t be disappointed by gameplay if you can’t play the game!

Roll Safe

Rentlar,

A laptop with a 1660ti 6GB got me 20-25fps 1080p low to medium around 10- 20k population. But I turned nearly everything off except for level of detail. Turning off Vsync somehow made it run around 5fps faster.

Rentlar,

Mine is a Lenovo Legion I got 3 yrs ago.

Rentlar,

Keep in mind that the console makers likely don’t want too much of their SDKs to become part of Godot’s open codebase. They license it to publishers who promise them that they won’t divulge important IP.

Rentlar,

The problem is that Godot is FLOSS. Unreal is missing the free (as in freedom) and libre part.

Might be good to have a watch of City Planner Play’s Benchmarking video

To answer your main Q from this, apparently the biggest performance dropoff is going from no pop to 10k, scaling up to 100k isn’t nearly the same dropoff.

Even with a beefy setup on high settings, CPP suggests turning off many of the post-processing effects and definitely disable VSync. Lastly 4K is out of the question for most cards, barely playable for top end enthusiast cards, Most will be limited to 1080p for a usable experience.

The good news from this video is that for anything above a 970 it is possible to get to late game, as long as you stick to 1080p low-med settings on any card with less than 8GB VRAM.

Rentlar,

So it scales with VRAM and GPU not, CPU?

Precisely. Not to sound too much like a shill because full disclosure I bought and I’m very excited for C:S2, but I find some of the concern is overblown. Yes the performance is a MAJOR problem, but the game is feature complete and optimization is ongoing, with significant improvements to arrive by console release.

Rentlar,

That’s the FIFA, Madden model… release a game, fix a couple things, improve a thing here and there, pull a new roster in and voilà! This year’s new sports game.

Rentlar,

Idk, having delivered on what the game purported to be in the trailer is nice imo. Due to the ambition and relatively short window between announcement and release, delaying it to resolve performance issues on PCs would have heightened expectations further than what would have been developed for it.

Performance issues I know are game breaking for many gamers and I can respect that. To me, it’s one negative within many positives. My 50k cities in CS:1 are a lagfest anyway.

ROCKSMITH 2014 LEAVING STORES - Ubisoft (www.ubisoft.com) angielski

You may want to know that Ubisoft’s Rocksmith® 2014 Edition will be de-listed from Steam and other online stores after October 23rd, 2023 which is one week from this post date. This is a game that makes learning to play the guitar like Guitar Hero/Rockband, which can score you or let you slowly practice a part with scrolling...

Rentlar,

If it’s any consolation, Ubisoft removed Denuvo sometime in the last couple years, and the UPlay sign in screen is annoying but can be bypassed fairly simply.

Rentlar,

I think you could probably find the game on the high seas even after a delist, probably some of them could have a lot of DLC included but I haven’t checked. Custom DLC might take a little more setup but idk, there are tutorials at least.

Custom DLCs exist that “cover” some of the same songs as the official DLCs do exist, though you won’t find them on CustomsForge. The Internet Archive has a folder with over 60k custom song maps, and hasn’t needlessly bound itself with restrictions.

Rentlar, (edited )

If anyone else runs into the Fullscreen Issue like I did initially, you have to go in the .ini file, set your screen width, height values to something less than your monitor specs and Fullscreen to 0.

And the UPlay signin screen is bypassed by pressing escape twice, Ubisoft doesn’t make this obvious AT ALL.

Rentlar,

I’m glad I could help you find this.

Rentlar,

You will have to hope your local friendly pirate will include that with the installation.

Rentlar,

Yes.

ROCKSMITH 2014 LEAVING STORES - Ubisoft (www.ubisoft.com) angielski

You may want to know that Ubisoft’s Rocksmith® 2014 Edition will be de-listed from Steam after October 23rd, 2023 which is one week from this post date. This is a game that makes learning to play the guitar like Guitar Hero/Rockband, which can score you or let you slowly practice a part with scrolling fret indicators....

Rentlar,

At least you get to keep the DLC titles you purchased, which probably wouldn’t happen with a SaaS title

Precisely. This is why I’m giving people a heads up that this is the last opportunity for this game with the “buy it, keep it forever and do whatever with it” model.

Since I’m not aware of CustomDLC for Rocksmith+ or if there will ever be, you’d be entirely at the mercy of what songs Ubisoft has the license for you to play, even if their catalogue is sizable.

Rentlar,

You’re probably correct, they’ve already delisted some DLC songs due to license expiry…

But if they are or will be relicensing many of the songs for their subscription service Rocksmith+, why couldn’t they use those same licenses to keep distributing Rocksmith 2014 and its DLC in stores? Unfortunately I’m not too thorough with music licensing.

Rentlar,

Generally it will work. If it’s recognized as an audio input or microphone then it will work just fine under Microphone mode, if you want to use it like a RealTone Cable or whatever it was called, you will have to rename that audio input interface and make sure the bitrate and number of channels matches that cable.

Rentlar,

If you have purchased RS2014 you will still be able to use it, and with the DLC installed you will still be able to play custom maps though I presume the amount of submissions will continue to dwindle.

Rentlar,

Ubisoft has announced that people who have the game and official DLCs, will continue to be able to use them after delisting.

And as far as I can tell, the game still works despite not connecting to Ubisoft servers, so Ubisoft would have to release an update to the game purposely to break its offline function (now I wouldn’t put it past Ubi to do it but unlikely).

Rentlar,

I’d be thrust into a dog-eat-dog world of 4 warring factions each out to establish dominance and feed themselves. I’d say in a week give or take I’d end up on someone’s dinner plate.

(I played 3/4s through of Tooth and Tail last night in 8 hours).

Ask me again in two weeks and I’d be in a city where you MUST take a train to get anywhere, in Cities Skylines 2. That would be a nicer fate.

Rentlar,

I wonder if this installment will feature GIANT INSECTS

Rentlar, (edited )

When a company doing scum-of-the-earth work like mobile ads is in a more charitable position than your company’s, you done fucked up.

Rentlar,

If anyone pre-ordered it (which generally isn’t advisable anyway) then this could be reasonable grounds for a refund.

Rentlar,

Reddit employees searching TikTok for memes to repost to Reddit be like:

are ya winning dad? meme

Rentlar,

I can see it being part of a “announce an outrageously awful thing, settle for doing something bad instead” scheme.

Rentlar,

The swashbuckler’s solution is then to make your own bundler installer!

California takes first step in acquiring trains for High-Speed Rail (ktla.com) angielski

California issues an RFQ (Request for Qualifications) in preparation of buying trainsets capable of travelling around 220mph (355km/h), two prototypes, a simulator, spare parts and operational availability for 30 years. Timeline for revenue operation currently is at year 2030....

Rentlar,

I can understand your skepticism, but you may be slightly misinformed. High speed rail corridors don’t pop up overnight, and they take longer if you want it to be built as economically, safe, and well-thought out as possible. For this project we are about 15 years after voters approved the idea 2008, so that part is true as you say. So planning is done to get the most efficient and effective path which takes years, consulting the public takes years, building it takes more years, then testing and commissioning is the cherry on top. The American idea of “I can do this all by myself without any European/Asian help” is certainly slowing things down and making it expensive as well. Due to inflation the costs also will rise but so will the cost of any alternative be it maintaining highway systems, managing traffic and pollution.

See the progress of the project for yourself at their website. Or a detailed summary on the Wikipedia page.

These must be golf pegs for Godzilla! :)

Rentlar,

You can see on the California government website where the current plan is to integrate with each part of the city. Many of the bigger population centres will have stations right at (what sound like to me as) major transit hubs. Unfortunately, the 2030 target is for operation between Bakersfield - Madera, so the parts around SF and LA will still take a bit longer than that.

Rentlar,

Earning revenue by caring for your customers and the industry takes strategic direction, time, money and effort, and the kind of effort needed is different between industries.

Earning revenue by sucking the living shit out of a company works (at least temporarily) for any industry and a multinational C-suite executive can employ it to any industry to give themselves the guise of success.

It’s like instead of cooking and following a recipe, just take all the ingredients and stick it into a blender and call the smoothie a meal. You’ll get sustenance but you ruined what made food interesting.

Rentlar, (edited )

(See my Beehaw comment for the full detail)

Is it piracy to do that? I’d argue no.

Is it illegal? Possibly, but it’s a grey area and it all depends on your country whether it breaks the law.

Rentlar, (edited )

The Deluxe Edition doesn’t add much value for me but as Cities:Skylines was amazingly fun, CitiesSkylines 2 is worth every penny to me.
