I bought the game in early access and saw how it become from one of the most promising arpgs to a bandwagon of hate and negativity. While it has many problems, I don’t think it deserve all the hate it received.

The game itself is pretty cool imho, however it had a catastrophic launch with lots of server issues for online characters, multiplayer problems and some bugs, causing a negative review tsunami. To make things worst the devs were kind of slow to resolve the issues and released the patches only when they reputation already took a hit.

I can not comment on the multiplayer/hardcore min/max builds and late game stage of the game. As far as I can tell there were some complaints on those fronts as well. I mostly play arpgs alone.

With this in mind, if you like the genre and not planning to play with friends I think its still a pretty entertaining title, nice graphics and decent build variety.

Agree 100%. Also if I remember correctly there was a case of over promising and not delivering. So part of the negativity from the community had a very valid reason.

…and we all know the wraith of the internet.

Its more about DLCs, then microtransactions but the two are very similar.

Okay lets say its a Steam Sale and they have publisher highlights. Lets saaay…Ubisoft or EA or one of these big corporate publishers.

Huuuge banners::Sale up-to 85% off

So since I am a patient gamer I start browsing and look at some 8-10 years old AAA titles I didn’t bother to pay full price for at relese. Like some older AC, Ghost Recon, or something for under 10 EUR/USD. Cool, then you click on it and what I see?

THATS ONLY THE FUCKING BASE GAME!?!?!! They still sell 3 premium editions with the DLCs and the one with all the content is something like 25-30 EUR/USD. With 85% off. So the full price is still something like 100+ EUR/USD. Fuck this artificially inflated price, I’m not paying that much for a decade old fucking game.

While other publishers roll all content into a complete edition or even release free remasters with all content included for considerably lower price for their older titles these greedy fuck publishers still trying to sell us exclusive content from a decade ago. Fucking boils my blood.

Macaroni_ninja,
@Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world avatar

I am trying to vote with my wallet and not buy any Ubisoft games at all if possible. The last AC I enjoyed was Black Flag, but still didn’t finish it.

So my whole rant is not that I cannot live without the DLCs, but the shitty business practise of selling them like this.

Last Epoch I love it! Plus runs great on Steam Deck

Macaroni_ninja,
@Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world avatar

By default there are some texture issues, switching to Proton GE resolved everything.

Macaroni_ninja,

You sure we are talking about the same game? Lvl 4 can be achieved during the first map within 10 min in Last Epoch

Consoles are more and more like PCs, with many multimedia, productivity and utilility apps and even web browsing, so the Steam Deck IMO perfectly fits the discussion.

Out of the box it has a strict console-like UI and limited functionality for everything else other than gaming. You need to take special steps to use it as a PC (reboot in desktop mode, attach peripherals, etc)

Macaroni_ninja,
@Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world avatar

There is no strict definition of what a console is. Just because the linux OS is not restricted and the hardware can be used as a pc with extra steps are we excluding the SD from the console topic?

What are some hidden indie gems nobody knows about? angielski

Which indies did you discover and would love more people to know about? I’ll start: The Pale Beyond. Not sure if it’s a hidden gem tbh, but it’s such a good story rich game. I laughed, I cried and felt the characters struggles. If you like story rich games/ choices matter, check it out.

Parkitect - an amazing RCT spiritual successor with cute graphics, some new mechanics (covering operational buildings and logistic routes). I have 100+ hours in it with my wife. It’s such a chill experience.

Nine Parchments - its a dual stick isometric shooter with wizards and elemental spells from the creators of Trine. Great co-op, unlockable characters/spells and creative mechanics. You can combine elements and the spells affect everyone, so for example a poorly placed healing spell can restore enemies health, or a misplaced fireball can hurt fellow players. Great fun!

Wildermyth - turn-based rpg with multiple characters and bite-sized modular quests and random encounters. The storytelling is simply amazing and each campaign plays out over a certain amount of time. The heroes age, retire, their kids can become adventurers as well. They can fall in love, compete, or based on the player’s choices even become other creatures or die heroic deaths which will also change how the story plays out. The art style is really nice and unique. I had many hours of fun with this one.

I think a million times people discussed this and ubi and epic store clients are far inferior compared to steam. People have all the rights to not want their game collection spread across half a dozen platforms.

I personally don’t buy anything Ubisoft mainly because their launcher is pure garbage and I hate it with passion.

Steam made me stop pirating games, Epic and Ubi made me overcome my FOMO and be a patient gamer.

Macaroni_ninja,
@Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world avatar

I loved Tyranny, but the combat was much worse compared to PoE. For newcomers I would recommend the lowest difficulty setting so they can enjoy the excellent writing and story.

Macaroni_ninja,
@Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world avatar

On what settings? Mine mimics a jet engine every time I fire up BG3, no matter what settings or scaling I used so far and I already have the quieter fan in the SD.

Macaroni_ninja,
@Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world avatar

Trackpad mouse controls are great, even for strategy games. You can fine tune them even further if default is not for your liking.

Aside from the Steam OS I think the trackpads are the other big feature for me to choose SD over the competition.

Will more Studios end up releasing games on Fortnite? (kbin.run) angielski

As we've had the latest Chapter 5 stuff we received 3 new games that are here to stay including Lego Fortnite (Allow you to purchase Lego versions of characters), Rocket Racing (Using Rocket League Vehicles) & Fortnite Festival (created by the original devs of Rock Band)....

Macaroni_ninja,
@Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world avatar

Until the next generation finds a new trending game Fortnite will be the go to gaming advertisement surface with endless crossovers, pop culture references, merch bait products and memes so the kids can be glued to the screens and make the parents spend money.

It’s a brilliant move to involve Lego as it’s widely popular, but I can’t see people using Fortnite as a sort of storefront/creation kit as it will probably have its limitation compared to a regular game purchased and played on its own.

One would think the gaming industry and consumers learned from the last 35 mistakes where big AAA titles had a dumpster fire launch because it was unfinished, unoptimized or over promised but no. This is gaming now.

Still attacking the devs and borderline creating a witch hunt is a bit too much. Just vote with your wallet. Or if you bought it refund it ffs.

I blame everyone who pre-orders as well. You are part of the problem!

Macaroni_ninja,
@Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world avatar

It was the most wishlisted game on Steam, people are actively ignoring all the red flags and blindly throwing their money at anyone who can produce a half decent video online.

I’m not protecting the devs, the whole story is a huge scam and they straight up lied but again:

Stop pre-ordering, paying on kickstarter or buying stuff in early access unless you are absolutely sure you know who gets your money and what you are getting in exchange.

Yes the devs are scum, but does it really justify the cyber witch hunt? A lot of people just hopped on the hype bandwagon and jumped over the hate bandwagon without even knowing the details.

Just fucking refund or sue the bastards. I will only repeat myself: consumers are part of the problem. Stop buying incomplete buggy shit based on promises and pre-order bonuses.

Watch reviews, performance tests before buying. Everything is fucking digital, they will not run out of keys if you wait an extra day.

Really there was nothing better than Starfield on Xbox this year? Smh

Macaroni_ninja, (edited )
@Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world avatar

Why does nobody question the price tag in general? 60 USD for a remake, sounds outrageous, no matter what platform.

By the way you can buy the game for almost half price on other platforms in digital and physical form as well. They are just taking the piss.

Macaroni_ninja,
@Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world avatar

Would you pay 60 USD for a new streaming service HD version if the Blue ray is available for 30 USD?

Macaroni_ninja,
@Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world avatar

Lets say I’m an average movie enjoyer and I either have a dedicated player or game console with Blue ray capabilities.

Also for streaming in this analog you require an expensive dedicated device.

Mad Max for me. Story and stealth is better in DG, but the driving, vehicle combat and hand-to-hand combat is sooo much better in MM.

The car is basically a second character you upgrade throughout the game.

DG for me was too … Last of us-esque, without the memorable characters. Just an ok cover shooter with lots of stealth plus a vehicle, which was not very fun to drive or care about.

Macaroni_ninja,
@Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world avatar

Every time I think the game has nothing new to show me they release a major patch, an expansion or add proper gamepad support so I can play it on Steam Deck as well and now this. So I usually jump in and realize how freaking good this game is. Its either installed on my desktop PC or SD or both for the past few years.

Its a no brainer and probably a day 1 purchase as the devs deserve every cent! I think another playthrough is in order soon.

Macaroni_ninja,
@Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world avatar

I used this and Hamachi for years

Macaroni_ninja,
@Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world avatar

Terraria before proper multiplayer support was our prime Hamachi game. We had like 7-8 people from an internet forum playing on and off through our hamachi virtual network.

Awesome times!

I have it on my wishlist for a while but based on this preview it looks rather…boring
