They really went all out on this but the gameplay just looks so boring…

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Flatout is one of my favourites and has an awesome soundtrack. Also was one of my first PC games and didn’t realise that was 20 years ago.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

That’s a odd stance to take. How would you be a thousand times happier if consoles didn’t exist?

Consoles still have their place in gaming and to think otherwise is somewhere ignorant. Just live the best of both worlds like the rest of us and don’t get so wound up!

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I’m about to blow your mind…

You get to decide.

You decide where to (or not to) buy and play the games you want. Like I said there is no requirement to stick to 1 platform and you honestly sound so wound up by this opinion I’m astounded.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

We’re talking video games here. Nothing else.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I’m pretty sure it was Paperboy on one of those Tiger Handhelds. Looking them up now brings back memories.

Mass Effect 2

I started it about a year ago so finally have gone back to finish it off. Normally I play paragon but I’m going (mostly) renegade this time.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I was going to try Harold Halibut but I’ve read that it contains noticeable spoilers so haven’t bothered.

Homeworld 3 is next.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I’m looking forward to this the most! It’s going to be a long year.

What are some hidden indie gems nobody knows about? angielski

Which indies did you discover and would love more people to know about? I’ll start: The Pale Beyond. Not sure if it’s a hidden gem tbh, but it’s such a good story rich game. I laughed, I cried and felt the characters struggles. If you like story rich games/ choices matter, check it out.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Ostriv, an 18th century city building game. I believe it is just the single developer based in Ukraine.

Live For Speed, this one isn’t quite “hidden” but is overlooked by many as it is not on any storefronts. Sim Racing history and still going strong today with the 3 original devs.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

In general anything with crafting and/or excessive loot. I find it very boring and especially when a game is advertised as “survival” when in reality it is just a crafting game with no real threat.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Subnautica is almost an outlier to the rule but the ocean triggers a phobia so I can’t play it. The Long Dark is probably the best example of a survival game with crafting that I do really like.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I tend to agree but then I also have moments where I get lost in the world for a few hours and it’s great. Death Stranding is probably my favourite where I walk everywhere and I spend an hour doing one delivery!

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

They are all just ways to “do things I can’t in real life” though. I have no interest in murdering people but I enjoy driving and 18 wheeler across Europe or flying all around the world.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I do find it kind of odd that some people only play the latest sports games and nothing else. Also NFL Blitz on the Dreamcast is one of the best games and I’ve never watch a game irl.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

It looks good but could do with more speed!

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Some games that have stuck with me over the years. Not quite masterpieces but in my opinion are great games that don’t get enough recognition.

  • Devil Dice, puzzle game for the PS1.
  • Hotel Dusk Room 215, adventure game for the Nintendo DS.
  • Red Steel & Red Steel 2, Wii games that used the motion controls. RS2 was especially fun and absolutely nailed the controls with the motion+ upgrade.
B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I had some good times with FH2 and I’ve just seen it is still getting updates over on MODDB. It still looks amazing.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I haven’t played the first game for a long long time so I might be off on that one but RS2 was everything the Wii was supposed to be.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Stuff like this is always welcome.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

It will be because of the “First Run” deal that Epic offers, so you’ll get to play in 6 months. I don’t blame the studio for doing it though but it’s not ideal for some.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I tend to agree.

Every storefront is DRM, some better than others, and people shouldn’t get so tied to a specific one. PC gaming is so open and getting angry at this is pointless.

What is the next "grown up game" now that Minecraft only goes for children? angielski

When Minecraft came out, it was hard to understand, not that good looking and only really catered to nerd gamers. There was no recipe book, no cute animals, no lush caves to explore, just an unforgiving Day-Night cycle and few, very creepy caves....

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

The game has changed a lot but also you might have too.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Football Manager 2024

I wouldn’t even call myself a football fan but the management part if very fun. Currently in the 6th tier and working on promotion.

Circuit Superstars

I bought the Switch Version so I can just pick up and play whenever and so far it is very good. It’s a nice mix of arcade racing with some realistic parts like pit stops and tyre wear. Hopefully online racing is still populated so I can give that a go.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I can’t think of any memorable “hacking” type ones as they all just become a chore by the end. Fable II has some wood chopping, pie making and lute playing that wasn’t so bad if you can get a high multiplier going.

As for actual “games within a game” then Shenmue series has many gambling and arcade machines. Roll it On Top, Lucky Hit, Darts and then Arterburner, Space Barrier, Outrun and Hang On.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I think if console is your way of gaming then upgrading to a PS4 or XBSX is alright.

Personally I only bought an XSS because it was relatively cheap last year (plus Gamepass with the £1 upgrade offer) but I’m done with future consoles now. PC gaming doesn’t have to expensive so that’s the way forward for myself.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

TWOM is so good. What you say about things going bad fast is very true and the repercussions of something minor are real.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Squad

I play for a few hours most nights but I will say that the devs come across as so inept it is equally fun & frustrating. When the teamwork just naturally works there is nothing that can beat it but the amount of bugs and performance issues majorly let it done.

I got to play Terra Nil, and here is my two cents on it (lemmy.world) angielski

This year I was recommended Terra Nil, a “reverse city builder” as the developer Free Lives call it in the store page. From screenshots and what gameplay I did see of it, my mind raced to games like SimCity 3000 and the potential of destroying a run down, or decaying city and returning it to nature....

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I remember playing the demo and being disappointed it was just a puzzle game, albeit a good looking one.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I didn’t buy them this year but

  • Software Inc, management game
  • Ostriv, 18th century city building game
  • Off-road Mania, 4x4 trials game
B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

There are issues with every platform so all anyone can do is make their own decisions.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

GOG Galaxy let’s you combine most of your game library in to one but it has it’s issues. GOG, Epic and Microsoft Store all work great but the other clients aren’t officially supported.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah I was a bit vague with that comment. I guess whenever this topic comes up it, at least to me, feels like most of the comments are I’ll informed.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

This is to be expected and don’t let it turn you off using Galaxy. Once set up you can automatically launch (and close) the game and client from here without seeing the other apps.

It does work with Steam, Ubisoft etc but the login will expire every week and need reconnecting.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Nobody should be surprised and everyone who bought this shit should honestly be thankful they are getting their money back.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I wouldn’t read too much in to review scores and critics.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Squad, it’s an even split between gameplay/socialising but it’s good fun either way.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

F1 Manager 2023, my interest in the real sport has completely disappeared over the last few years but I like management games and it’s doing a decent job.

Jusant, recently added to gamepass and so far I’m really enjoying everything about it. The gameplay, art style, lore and mystery are all excellent.

Titanfall 2, decided to replay the campaign but the spider bomb machine things trigger my phobia so taking a break with the games mentioned above. Such an amazing game even with my issues!

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

All good choices but I say go back and finish God of War first.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

I remember Quantum Break being really good but then getting quite difficult late on. Also it would have been great to play it with an S/X update.

Now that Spiritfarer is back on Gamepass I want to give it a second go.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah it’s been great building up a GWG library, especially the 360 games, but you’re right that most of the time it’s been underwhelming. For me this change is good.

B0NK3RS,
@B0NK3RS@lemmy.world avatar

My wife plays The Sims games so I have a passing interest and it’s already heavy on DLC so I can almost guarantee how insane 5 will be!
