Slay the Spire is one of those games where the more I play it, the worse I do. I did better at this game when I didn't know what I was doing then I do now after hundreds of hours in the game.
My chance of winning the game up to ascension 5 is > 50%.
IMHO StS gives the player bad habits in the lower difficulties (and the difficult spike when reaching the heart is not that great).
Some tips stolen from better players than me:
You really have to play optimal and think about every card to minimize life loss (This could also mean taking a hit early and kill off an enemy faster vs. blocking an early hit and taking massive damage later.)
The bosses especially can be seen as problem to solve. Look ahead, do you have the right card(s) in the deck to solve the problem?
The first hall is mostly about about up front damage, in the second you will need some area of effect damage etc.
Before adding a card to your deck, answer the following questions:
How high is the chance I can even play this card? (Example: You have 3 energy and a card costs 2 Energy. If you have another 2 Energy card, you know increase your chance of a dead draw, because you can not play both if they appear in the same hand)
Does this card has any synergy with the cards I already have in my deck or with any artifacts?
Does this card solve a problem (e.g. boss or enemy) I have? IMHO all the generic advice is not wrong (like having as little cards as is possible), but the point about playing the higher ascensions is really more seeing ‘the whole’ instead of focusing on one aspect. For example, if you have Corruption in a bottle and Dark Embrace, all of a sudden you want to have as many skills a possible… OTOH, if you have two Dropkicks, you want everything which destroys cards to have an endless Dropkick-Engine as soon as possible.
Take care of immediate problems you know you will face (like the boss of the current hall), instead of speculating on card combinations which might or might not show up in the future. (Exception to the speculation rule: Iron Clad has Limit Break, and it is total reasonable to expect to find some strength boost as an Iron Clad, so LimitBreak is usually the one card which I never think about picking up)
tldr: Picking your strategy and adding/removing of cards must be seen in the context of artifacts, energy and the bosses you will see. Optimize for your next known problem, instead of betting in cards to become available. You can have 1-2 cards for special situations or as speculation, but adding for example another attack card if you already have enough of attack, simply doesn’t solve a problem or makes your deck stronger.
Just started playing Graveyard Keeper and it's interesting but it seems really grindy. Hopefully it starts picking up a bit as I play. I'm also wondering if I should get any of the DLC now or wait a bit. The DLC is on pretty good sale right now on Steam so that might be something good to pick up.
Currently slogging my way though the late game (or at least I was until more pressing things came up), there’s some slight automation towards the mid game that helps a bit, but the grind doesn’t really go away. Mostly due to the fact that you end up spending Faith/ corpses/ gold way faster than you can get them. I find myself in a waiting pattern fairly often- there’s still things to do, but progress on major quests feels super slow (and almost unrewarding). The DLC is mostly regarded as filler, but if you’re a completionist (or like what they offer), it’s not awful at the current sale price.
Note: there are achievements that are gated behind having the DLCs if that’s your thing.
It’s not strictly a bad game, but I’d almost rather play Stardew for the farming/ story or Factorio for the automation.
I finished my first playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077. I absolutely love the setting for the game and hopefully they'll make a sequel. Cyberpunk is going to join the very small selection of games I immediately replay. I just need to figure out how to do mods on Bazzite first.
V has as much money as you have at the end of the game, they’ve got properties and cars, whatever cash… But your connections are just whatever fixers are still alive when you get back. But now that you’re kinda useless to them now they won’t be very eager to help you.
I generally agree with @Dharkstare that first playthroughs should be vanilla, but I have very little time to game, and Cyberpunk is huge. I’m not trying to accomplish anything, I just want to fuck around. So I’m currently playing my first playthrough of Cyberpunk with mods, and it’s fantastic for goofing off.
With all that said, there are 2 mods I would suggest for Cyberpunk, even for an otherwise vanilla playthrough.
The first is No Intro Videos, which gets rid of the unskippable logos and health warnings that are displayed every time the game loads. It’s one of my most appreciated QoL mods.
The other is Simple Flashlight. Perhaps a little controversial for a vanilla playthrough, but I stand by it. I actually don’t use the flashlight very much, but every so often I end up somewhere that so dark, I can’t find my way out of the room/building/wherever. It’s during those infrequent times I’m grateful for a little extra light.
Just finished the Run This Town quest in Cyberpunk 2077 and the VAs for Aguilar nailed it. They both have that perfect mix of smooth and threatening. I'm sad that the character is only available for that one mission. Really wish they were around more or were an option to voice V.
I finally managed to launch my first nuke in Fallout 76!
It only took like 2 hours of dying and confusion because there's no clear instructions....but it was successful nonetheless!😬😅
Running out of things to do now🤣might wait until the new season drops to continue my expedition grind because apparently a new Atlantic City expedition is releasing alongside the new season...
Also, does anyone know if the daily stamps for the first expedition applies to each expedition individually or if it's for all expeditions overall? Basically if I do all 4 expeditions in 1 day, will I get 20x4 stamps?🤔
@BeAware@gaming Congrats on the nuke launch! I don't remember the math on stamps and it keeps changing, but I think you usually get a bonus amount the first time each day.
@sub_ Yep, I'm using #Exult. I find it easier than regular #DOSBox. I used the files installed by GOG for Exult Linux. And true, I like the QoL features they added!
Well not sure when I'm gonna get around to Baldur's Gate 3 but I guess if nothing else, it is time to start playing Divinity Original Sin 2 for the very first time.
What's that "Aww fuck I wish I knew that before I started" thing that I should know before I start?
You're telling me, I found the REAL Sunny in Foundation and I can't even pet her?!?! What the FUCK, Bethesda!! Most egregious thing you've done to me!!! :kek:
If anyone plays Fallout 76 on PC and doesn't mind doing expeditions, add me so we can run some sometime. They're annoying but Bethesda apparently wants to shove them down our throats because they're the only way to get some of the best stuff in the game.
I REALLY want those Union PA plans but they mostly cost a lot of stamps...😩
