“Hello kids”

mateomaui, (edited ) w How would someone, hypothetically, pirate Baldur's Gate 3 without being able to torrent?

If you’re acquiring a GOG release somewhere, it should be the regular, normal installer because GOG releases don’t have DRM that needs cracking. Someone just needs to first get it legally from GOG and then share it somewhere. If you scan it with antivirus and it finds something, get rid of it and try another source.

Otherwise without torrenting, you’d have to find a place with direct downloads.

edit: though you may want to wait longer for them to patch more bugs etc, because if you don’t have a source to download the GOG updates only, downloading 100+ GB each time is a pain.

Thank you!

7Sea_Sailor, w How would someone, hypothetically, pirate Baldur's Gate 3 without being able to torrent?

The archive you download from gog-games includes some data files and a setup.exe. You launch the setup, tell it where to install, and wait. Once it’s done, you launch the game from the start menu, and enjoy. There’s no magic to it.

oh, fascinating! thank you, sir.

7Sea_Sailor,

Keep in mind that the files received from this site are identical to the files you would get on the official store. That’s why it’s so beautiful.

Steve, w A way to disable laugh tracks?

After a little while, you’re going to prefer it to the strange pauses in the dialogue.

@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

This is going to sound weird I prefer it to the laughing, makes it feel like they’re actually finishing their sentences rather than being cut off by people laughing at random words and seemingly cutting them off. I don’t know about most people but I find seemingly random laughter at benign things to be unpleasant and annoying.

Though maybe in the future as media manipulation with Machine learning gets better maybe we’ll have a way to chop out the gaps seamlessly as if it never happened for the people that find the gaps more bothersome.

By far the most unpleasant thing I find with current implementations is the fact that most aren’t seamless and they leave a lot behind when they can’t mute the whole scene such as when it’s mixed with dialogue or background audio.

Man the year of the Linux desktop is rapidly approaching! We now have shady websites that offer the same content available in the operating system with less features, and costs money or spies on you.

Soon enough we’ll have browsers forced on it’s users! I can’t wait to feel like a true Windows user.

You know why we say it’s the year of the Linux desktop, every year?

Because every year is the year of the Linux desktop.

Bad news for the 3 or 4 people out there who didn’t just use the package manager to install everything.

user224,
@user224@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Look, I was new to GNU+Linux computers. But it seems I was lucky not to get redirected to that malicious repo.

ArcaneSlime,

I’ve had to compile a few things I’ve needed that weren’t in my repos, like jackett, but I go to the project’s git.

odium,

I’ve been forced to install from a website for an uncommon printer driver. It was from the official canon website tho.

And because under Linux nobody uses websites to install software but just uses their package manager, nobody noticed until Kaspersky discovered it.
