QualifiedKitten, w Some noob questions about seedboxes

I'm definitely not an expert, but I've been using Whatbox for many years without any issues. I'm based in the US and have it set up to autocharge the same card that I use for everything else. I do not use a VPN or anything else to access Whatbox.

I have received plenty of DMCA notices from Whatbox over the years, and they just require you to delete the offending content within 24 hours or your account will be locked until you do.

In fact, I vaguely recall them increasing my storage allowance a few years ago without raising my rate, so that was pretty cool.

Tadpole7085,

Cool to hear! Do you actually need to delete the content in order to comply, or simply stop seeding?

QualifiedKitten,

I've never actually tested that out. If it's content I want long term, I simply download it to my local storage before deleting from Whatbox.

What I've found works best for me when using public trackers for new content is to set up a max seeding ratio and whatever relevant *arrs. Doing it that way means that I've usually been able to download the content and stop seeding before the swarm is discovered/monitored by those sending the notices.

What’s the benefit of using a Private tracker? If you have a VPN shouldn’t that cover you?

NateSwift,

Private trackers often have rules requiring seeding that keeps all/most of the torrents with a healthier seeding pool.

So faster downloads and less dead torrents. Sometimes greater variety

traches,

Curation and moderation

jellyfinandchill,

Private trackers have seeding policies in place that mandate or incentivize keeping torrents alive for extended periods of time. As a result, you see fewer dead torrents and much faster download speeds.

dingus, (edited ) w Looking for content related to acting or acting classes. Any chance someone here has good video sources?
@dingus@lemmy.ml avatar

Not acting per se… but the private tracker I am on has every video from MasterClass.

There are several acting focused videos in that set.

lemming007, w So how fast do y'all think Starfield will get cracked when the early access goes live tonight?

Long time ago, already downloading it

Entropy,

Yeah I’ve been playing it all weekend, I made this post the morning before EA went live

ober, w How to install Starfield
@ober@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I use a program called unrar to unpack .rars

unrar /path/to/.rar/

Then I run the installer .exe with Wine. Once that finishes I add it as a non-steam game and select the newest version of Proton. Sometimes I’ll check protondb if the game doesn’t work right away.

db0, w It would appear lemmy.world has blocked this community
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

To be honest, it’s not a huge deal. The copyright cartel can easily send dmca requests to your isp just for having text guidelines. Not everyone has the bandwidth or energy to deal with stuff like that.

I just wish this wasn’t done at the request of a transphobic racist who just did it to get back at is for getting banned for making transphobic and racist communities in this instance.

Rabbit,

Don’t need lemmy world anyways. This is the most based instance on the entire fediverse. Their loss.

mexicancartel,

One of the most popular instance. This is why federation is necessary and people should create accounts in different servers instead of pulling everyone to one server calling it tge “official” or “main” server

OtakuAltair,

At least they blocked a community and not the entire instance. This is how these things should be handled, imo

Demigodrick,

Keep it up db0, a lot of us across the fediverse appreciate what you’ve built!

Gsus4,
@Gsus4@feddit.nl avatar

So beehaw was right whey they defederated from .world, there is shadiness there…

PS: this is one of the best communities in the fediverse, good job.

whats_a_refoogee,

Beehaw’s reasons for defederation were completely unrelated to what’s happening now. They didn’t want the general public to have access to their “safe” community.

ShittyKopper,

there’s more to “the general public” besides 2 instances. beehaw defederated from .world and sijw because the mod tooling to handle a huge influx of people isn’t ready, and it still isn’t ready. (and the rest of their defederations are an off the shelf mastodon blocklist import which all instances should do imo and a few explicitly unmoderated instances. oh and porn i think)

beehaw federates just fine with the instance i’m on, for example.

if they wanted to defederate completely, lemmy does support allowlist federation, and i’m pretty sure their admins know about it.

lemming007, w Has YouTube Blocked Your Adblocker Yet??

I’ll quit YouTube before I watch ads.

vagrantprodigy, w Starfield has been cracked

Wonder if the cracked version crashes when starting a new game like the steam version does…

beirut_bootleg,

Kill any overlay apps like MSI. Process Explorer can crash it too. Just kill everything. Had this issue with FO76.

vagrantprodigy,

No overlays running, still crashes. I’m seeing quite a few people reporting this online, both with AMD and Nvidia, and of course Intel cards don’t work at all on this game.

Techmaster,

Is anybody on earth stupid enough to buy an Intel GPU?

ObiGynKenobi,

Anyone who wants AC Mirage and Nightingale? Anyone who supports disrupting the duopoly that, driven by corporate greed, has effectively priced the “budget card” out of existence over the last decade? Those 2 are just off the top of my head.

If I was in the market for a GPU, I’d probably buy Intel Battlemage on principle. At least then I can criticize the current state of the GPU industry without being hypocritical.

TheOakTree,

Awful shortsighted of a comment from a self-proclaimed “Techmaster” lol

Techmaster,

Guess I found one.

Devs: “it works fine on my machine”. At this point games should just come with their own OSes. Or hardware. Hell, ship 'em like arcade boxes.

generalEdo, w Some noob questions about seedboxes

I unfortunately, do not have an answer for you but curious what issues you have with crypto. I am an old fart who does not sail the seas as much as I used to and do not do any sort of crypto or even considered it.

Tadpole7085,

There is already a lifetime’s worth of debate over crypto, and I don’t really feel a need to add to it in this thread. Any point I could make has already been written thousands of times, in a much better way. Some of my big problems with it include environmental impact, the amount of scamming done with it, the lack of useful applications for it besides the aforementioned paying for illegal things, etc.

generalEdo,

Thanks for your response. Other than the environmental impact, I honestly do not know anything about the debate over crypto. I will just have to look into it now since I a curious.
