IntergalacticZombie, w Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3 Revive Age-Old RPG Debate About Encumbrance - IGN

I’m a hoarder in these games. If I can store all my stuff back at my base like in Fallout 4 and Skyrim then I’m happy. As long as they don’t pull the Fallout 76 stunt where you need to pay monthly for extra storage.

wolfshadowheart,
@wolfshadowheart@kbin.social avatar

I've just found out you don't even need to build an outpost. Buy a home and you can decorate it with hundreds of storage crates (150 mass/crate)

sunaurus, w Sea Of Stars Has Huge Day-One Sales, Despite Launching On Game Pass And PS Plus

I’ve played the first two hours on PS Plus and it’s excellent so far. I’m actually considering purchasing it separately on Steam just so I can play it on the Steam Deck as well 👀

redsol2,

I went straight for the Steam Deck version and it is a perfect handheld game. The fights don't drag on too long, and the suspend / resume is really nice to have.

ImplyingImplications, w Netflix: Streamer's expansion into gaming is 'natural extension'

Netflix knows chess is already a game, right?

I shit you not, there was a game called “Queens Gambit The Game” or something and it wasn’t chess.

TwilightVulpine, w Starfield leaker arrested for felony theft after attempting to sell early copies

Dumb shit to do but a felony? That's just excessive. This is no violent crime, and it's not a large scale one either.

Once again the law seems to care more to serve corporate interest than what is just.

Wookie,
@Wookie@artemis.camp avatar

Corporate interests pay politicians and judges who make and pass laws. This guy stole a game and gets a felony, but did anything happen to those who cause financial crisis or housing crisis? They usually get bonuses

tokyo,

I was thinking the exact same thing. That is wild. It really shows you how much power corpos have. They literally destroy the environment in so many different ways and get told: pay these fees and you’re good. Business continues as usual.

But this dude? God forbid he leaked and sold a corporate product. Nothing less than a felony is clearly warranted.

HidingCat, w PlayStation Portal Doesn’t Have Bluetooth

Phanatik, (edited ) w EA's BioWare will lay off 50 and cut ties with unionized Keywords playtesting group

Wait, when was Baldur's Gate a BioWare series? That's the first time I'm hearing about this.

Edit: Well how about that...

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

The previous two games, 20 years ago. It's what gave them the reputation of being a studio that made great RPGs. Then they went on to make Neverwinter Nights (another D&D game), Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Star Wars with rules very close to D&D), Jade Empire, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age.

Lunyan,
@Lunyan@kbin.social avatar

BioWare actually made Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 lol

geosoco,

1 & 2 were both bioware developed games - including their original expansions.

Poggervania,
@Poggervania@kbin.social avatar

BioWare made BG 1 & 2 back in the day, and they started Dragon Age as a spiritual successor to their DnD games as I would imagine (and assume) that EA didn’t want to deal with WoTC with getting the license to a DnD game.

So it’s kind of ironic that arguably one of the best games to come out this year is a Baldur’s Gate game as the new Dragon Age game sounds like it might be languishing in development.

__v, w Star Wars: Dark Forces Remastered – Official Announcement Trailer

What a bizarre “remaster”. They’ve barely touched the actual game and instead focused on… making the cutscenes look worse?

MudMan, w Geforce Now game streaming is like magic – and it puts Xbox’s cloud effort to shame
@MudMan@kbin.social avatar

It's not magic, it's an Nvidia server you're paying for on a time share. And it's decent, but frankly, as the kind of person that can tell when my 120Hz VRR display is hitting a flat frametime by eye it's nowhere near comparable to local play, even in optimal circumstances.

Streaming is a nice option when you need a hardware-independent, location-independent way to run a heavy game, or as a stopgap when your client hardware can't cut it with a modern release the cloud service covers, but it's not an optimal experience and it's problematic if it becomes a primary way to run games for a host of other reasons. I actually find GFN to be a solid idea, in terms of tapping into libraries you already own, but it's absolutely a secondary, value-added solution to either running games on client or even pushing your own stream from a server you own.

Defaced,

Nvidia absolutely does not care about dedicated gaming GPUs anymore though, this is where their focus currently resides. Do you understand how much money Nvidia makes on their server hardware vs the consumer graphics card market? It’s absolutely disgusting how much their server offerings are making them right now. They don’t care about anecdotal scenarios like yours where you can tell a 120Hz VRR displaying is hitting a flat frame time. There will be a day when Nvidia just won’t offer midrange graphics cards anymore, because it’s just going to cost too much with little return on their investment over the server hardware and subscriptions.

HuddaBudda, w Overwatch 2 director opens up about having the worst-reviewed game on Steam: 'Being review-bombed isn't a fun experience'
@HuddaBudda@kbin.social avatar

"Aaron Keller gets that (people are upset). "That announcement was about an ambitious project that we ultimately couldn't deliver."

On one end, he could be lying, after all it's not like they didn't have working prototypes and cinematic for the new game mode that wasn't deliverable

Or.

He is telling the truth. Then making people return to the office impacted blizzard's bottom line more then they thought and was a stupid decision that they should end ASAP.

ryan, w Netflix begins testing cloud game streaming on TV and PC

key companies in the video game sector

Press X to doubt. Didn't Google try this sort of thing with Stadia already? Why is Netflix spending money on becoming a video game company? Are they trying to justify the price increases?

krdo,
@krdo@lmmy.net avatar

They are trying to diversify since streaming is not a sustainable business on its own. What they are trying is more similar to something like Apple Arcade than Stadia.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

In what way is streaming not a sustainable business on its own? You mean game streaming isn't sustainable on its own?

krdo,
@krdo@lmmy.net avatar

No, I meant streaming of movies and tv shows in the current market. Someone has to fold eventually when the current strikes are over.

Edit: Streaming services are paying to much to generate content in a battle for customers. Actors and writers are not getting paid enough. By diversifying Netflix has a better chance at competing.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

Strikes not withstanding, I don't see how that business is unsustainable. Film and television companies integrated and consolidated until there's at least 4 or 5 major players in that space for healthy competition, and the back of the napkin math makes plenty of sense.

krdo,
@krdo@lmmy.net avatar

I guess we’ll see how it plays out in the coming years.

nicktron,
@nicktron@kbin.social avatar

It’s unsustainable because everything is being splintered into different streaming services, forcing the consumer to spend more to watch the one or two decent offerings on each platform. This is causing people to return to the days of mass pirating.

ampersandrew, (edited )
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

That's not unsustainable...that's a healthy, competitive market, and a great deal better for the consumer than the television model it replaced. You also don't need to stay subscribed to a streaming service after you've watched the show you wanted to watch, and even if you stay subscribed to only the ones with shows you like, it's far cheaper than cable.

nicktron,
@nicktron@kbin.social avatar

You’re wrong, but okay.

CarlsIII, w OK Boomer Shooter: How indie games breathed new life into a dying genre

Can we start coming up with inaccurate names for every genre? Maybe battle royales can be called “Greatest Generation Turn-Based Puzzlevanias.”

EnderWi99in,

Boomer shooter isn't really about the generational boomers but that the games have a lot of "booms". It says it right at the top of the article. Boomers never even played video games. That era was all Gen X and old Millennials so it wouldn't even make sense that way.

CarlsIII,

Finally, a genre of games with explosions in them.

It’s still a terrible name, and it is clearly meant to make you think of baby-boomers (the op is literally titled “OK Boomer Shooter.”) Also, the fact that there are things that go ‘boom’ in this game is not in any way the defining trait that separates them from other FPS’s, but rather that they are more fast-paced than other more realistic FPS’s. And even if you convince me otherwise on that point, I still hate the name and wish nobody would use it!

lh,

I mean trials in absentia are super common, including in Western democracies. If you're confident you can prosecute but unable to detain the defendant, then you can still try them without them being physically present.
