Odo, w Games like Moonring?

Ever heard of Spiderweb Software? They’ve been putting out lo-fi old-school cRPGs for nearly 30 years now. Take a look at Avernum: Escape from the Pit (a remake of their first game, Exile) and see if that scratches the same itch.

Mandy,

never heard of them actually, thank you

InsanelyCrewed, w Games like Moonring?

2 that come to mind are Adom and caves of qud are very similar in terms of designs and inspirations but share very little in common graphics wise are from being all 2d-esque. You can explore dungeons in a roguelike fantasy world.

Mandy,

ill check em out

This makes me want to play the first one again. Incredible combat system.

1080ti reporting for more 1080ti use.

One day we’ll see ray tracing…

i have a rt capable gpu and its over hyped

Delphia,

Its overhyped so far.

@umbrella@lemmy.ml avatar

i hear this since launch, and i got a capable card partly because of this

still waiting

Delphia,

Hey in all honesty good on you for being an early adopter, someone has to. The first cars were not much of an upgrade over the horse and buggy either.

I wouldnt touch the 40 series, it feels like a stopgap. Theres a lot going on with AI cores and frame generation and new methods that arent just “raw power” processing. I think all this frame gen and ray tracing and so on is going to come together in the next series.

umbrella,
@umbrella@lemmy.ml avatar

my point is that they have been saying that for years now, all the rt gpus are feeling like stopgaps rn, and you aint losing much by staying on say a 1080ti

i think worthwhile rt is still a while off. I do agree that its potentially great whenever they can figure out better tech to run it like you mention.

also they need to calm the fuck down with pricing already

thepianistfroggollum,

My R9 390 is still going strong, and hopefully it’ll stay they way until the price fixing stops.

Case,

2080TI, running Starfield at max settings with 4k texture mods, reporting in.

I want a top of the line GPU, I just can’t find a good enough reason to shell out the money. It keeps plugging away, runs smooth as butter with a slight overclock, and I have no complaints. I heard lots of complaints about the 4*** series cards though.

I’ve saved up for a top of the line GPU twice now, and I’d rather spend it spoiling my wife and doing the nice things we can’t usually afford.

Mirrors Edge + Blade combat + rhythm esque racing? Looks interesting.

I_Comment_On_EVERYTHING, w Steam Programmer's Sale 2023

Oh no… The last thing my wallet needs is another steam sale.

Kinda looks cool though.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Still won’t buy one… but I’ll believe it.

Lemon juice makes oranges seem sweet.

birbboidaseed, w Todd Howard says Starfield was 'made to be played for a long time,' but a month after launch I'm already drifting away

This game feels more like a chore with a million fetch quests. I never made it out of new Atlantis in my play through. Bg3 is so much more nuance and a way better game.

Edgelord_Of_Tomorrow,

The one truly great thing about Skyrim is the ability to just wander and fall into trouble.

That simply doesn’t exist in a game where travelling is a loading screen.

birbboidaseed,

Yeah I don’t know why they can’t make space travel to work similar to NMS. That would have been so much better. I don’t really feel like I’m exploring anything jumping from system to system. Hell even planets to planets.

Kolanaki, (edited )

Yeah I don’t know why they can’t make space travel to work similar to NMS

Because the Creation Engine is a pile of shit stacked on top of another pile of shit known as Gamebryo. The only way it even is able to handle high speed vehicles for the space combat is by having much smaller external cells with absolutely nothing in them.

What they could have done, though, is make the planets fully walkable. For some reason, those are also not seamless. You eventually hit invisible walls in any sector you land at. The engine is very capable of handling that, though. Especially if it’s just empty terrain.

Skwerls,

Seriously, I wish they had dropped that engine. It’s so hodge podge and lacking, they had a decade to make starfield in a new to them engine. Instead we get this shit in 2023

Edgelord_Of_Tomorrow,

Can’t believe Bethesda own id Software and at no point set them to work updating the engine to a modern standard.

I think what starfield is missing is full body animations that go along with conversations, seeing NPCs pick stuff up or pace around while talking and communicating through body language

walked right into that one lel thats one of the key reasons it exists, it advertises itself as such

pory, w Twitter sleuths suggest a new Steam Deck is on its way, but any updates are likely to be for Valve's benefit not ours
@pory@lemmy.world avatar

Personally I’m hoping 1030 isn’t even a Deck. Putting the Deck internals in a set-top box with better cooling and lots of I/O would make an amazing competitor to PS5/XSX and a straight upgrade to XSS, and they could price it a lot cheaper than the Deck because they wouldn’t need to put a screen or battery in (and they could make it even cheaper by selling it without a controller since it works with Xbox/PS/Nintendo ones already).

Steam Machines failed the first time, but now that the Deck has gotten a lot of people comfortable with (a vastly improved) SteamOS there’s no reason to think they’d fail again, especially if Valve themselves were putting out the flagship “standard” unit that companies like ASUS could iterate on.

mindbleach, w Xbox Series X/S players feel forgotten by Rockstar after Red Dead Redemption 60fps PS5 port
