Steam is a shit launcher. Google bloat.

MentalEdge, (edited ) w Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Official Document Reveals Open-Ended Gameplay, New Combat Abilities For Main Cast
@MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz avatar

While I don’t mind that Rebirth will be more open world, perhaps like fifteen, I never considered Intergrades linear design an “issue” that needed “solving”.

There’s nothing wrong with linear game design, quite the opposite. It lends itself to a more focused experience. Games often have so much “stuff” to do, half of it ends up irrelevant.

I really enjoyed the tightly paced experience that was Intergrade.

stopthatgirl7, (edited ) w Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis turns Square Enix's best into an avalanche of money-grabbing tactics
!deleted7120 avatar

I tried playing it because a friend recommended it, and I barely lasted 3 days with it. It is a complete waste of time - you don’t even play it; it plays itself. The games are a Cliff’s Notes version of the original games. I got to it telling me I had to pay to upgrade my weapons past level 30, and I was done.

Bilbo,

If I so much as see a daily reward or a separate currency or an in game store, it gets uninstalled. Those things are guarantees that it sucks.

DharkStare, w Leaked Bethesda roadmap reveals unannounced releases including Dishonored 3

I’m really happy to hear about Dishonored 3. It’s one of my favorite series and I replay it regularly.

nanoUFO, (edited ) w Microsoft's next-generation Xbox pitched as a "cloud hybrid" console
@nanoUFO@sh.itjust.works avatar

First they will take away your disk trays and then they will take away your hard drives. That’s a big no from me.

sfgifz,

Disc trays going away was just natural evolution considering how convenient and economical downloading games was for users.

nanoUFO,
@nanoUFO@sh.itjust.works avatar

It’s going to be more convenient and economical just streaming games and renting them forever and then upping the subscription rates and making them exclusive to game stream platforms.

gsfraley,

As someone who has exclusively bought games for download this generation, it ain’t economical lol

sfgifz,

In cost of the game itself for sure, but then you’d have costlier price in the disc too.

With the discs the scratches and storage were a bitch of a problem and later games even needed internet connection to activate games running on disc. It had pros but wasn’t all rosy either.

mindbleach,

It’s economical for distribution.

Part of why Sony nowadays is a game company with a movie hobby is that discs were dirrrt cheap compared to cartridges. They’d fund any stupid bullshit people wanted to make, get finished cases on shelves, and know whether consumers loved it, before N64 developers had finished negotiating a production run. Their cost per disc was measured in cents and their manufacturing turnaround was measured in days. One of the slowest and riskiest aspects of game publishing suddenly cost next to nothing.

Digital distribution isn’t necessarily cheaper per-gigabyte… but there’s no mastering. There’s no lead time. There’s not even the concept of a production run, anymore. Developers can ship whatever they want, whenever they want, to whoever they want, essentially for free.

DannyMac, w Microsoft Nintendo acquisition hopes revealed by leaked Xbox exec email

The gaming world’s response to MS buying Nintendo would make the whole Unity debacle look like a mild inconvenience in comparison… and that’s what I predict for the US, not to mention how Japan would respond to this.

Also, Firefox supports ublock Origin on Android (no clue about iThings, but probably everything is reskinned safari in apple land).
Pi-hole is also an option and while it isn’t perfect, it can block many ads at the network/dns level for devices that can’t support adblockers.

The site is unusable on mobile because of the aggressive ads

stopthatgirl7,
!deleted7120 avatar

Sorry, I have an ad blocker on my phone so I genuinely have no idea if there are ads on a site or how bad they are anymore on mobile. Try flipping to reader view to see it without ads?

Blizzard,

That’s on you for not using an adblocker.

lowleveldata,

Oh really? It’s not on the site for placing aggressive ads?

Blizzard,

As far as I’m concerned, all ads are aggressive. I don’t want to see any ads, period. Using an adblocker is a norm. It’s not only a matter of civilized online experience but also privacy and security (latest example). Of course you are not required to use one, but don’t go online complaining you see ads.

lowleveldata,

I’m not following. How am I supposed to let everyone knows that this site is shit without complaining?

Blizzard,

Everyone else should use adblockers too.

stopthatgirl7,
!deleted7120 avatar

If you don’t have an ad blocker installed though, seriously, I can’t recommend getting one enough. It’s legit like night and day how different it is. There are occasional inconveniences, but it is overall so, so much better for browsing QoL.

FooBarrington, w NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 rumors: 2.9 GHz boost clock, 1.5 TB/s bandwidth and 128MB of cache

24GB to 32GB of VRAM? That’s highly disappointing. I’d have expected a bigger increase for AI workloads.

randombullet,

I went with an RTX A5000 because of the dumb ram limitations

FooBarrington,

That’s also just 24GB, right?

randombullet,

Yep just 24gb.

Tdp was another huge consideration.
