Kovukono, w Mad Max vs Days Gone, which do you like more?

I picked up Days Gone well after it released, and didn’t have the bugs, and got well and truly invested in it. Mad Max wasn’t a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, but Days Gone felt like it had more content in the world. I loved both, but probably Days Gone.

urbanzero, w Mad Max vs Days Gone, which do you like more?

Days Gone is much better than Mad Max, which was still a good game. It’s a shame Days Gone launched with so many problems because the final product is so so good. Yeah the story is a just ok and the acting can be hammy and a little uneven. But the gameplay is great and I actually enjoyed the story.

dan1101, w Mad Max vs Days Gone, which do you like more?

I like them both in different ways. Overall I’d have to say Days Gone though, the game world is so nicely done.

I loved days gone, the horde mechanic and the power curve are done in an excellent way in the game, it was quite a unique experience.

Mad max was just a formulaic empty open world with shallow combat for me, I was bored out of my mind and never got even half way through.

kaitco, w New PS5 Owners Can Currently Claim a Free Game - IGN

Let’s say I’ve got a friend who bought a PS5 back in March, and this friend decided that she wanted to take part in this giveaway.

What are the pros and cons of this friend purchasing a new PS5, getting her free game (possibly Ghosts of Tsushima), and then returning the PS5 afterward? Because this sounds like a savings of $70 or so once it’s all done…for my friend.

aaronstc,

If this is tied to your PSN there is a good chance it won’t work even if you register a new console. They’ll see you already had a PS5.

$70 sounds like a lot but probably not worth the potential headache.

Naatan, w Cal Kestis actor confirms Star Wars Jedi 3 during Comic Con panel

I can’t wait to try out part 3 for 2 hours before deciding this still isn’t for me.

I want a good and immersive Jedi game so bad. These games just feel like you’re in an amusement park that’s channelling the game you want but not really trying to deliver it, it’s just a vehicle to get to the next bouncy mushroom or conveniently placed wall jump.

li10, w Capcom would "gracefully decline" an acquisition offer from Microsoft

Don’t imagine Microsoft would have too much success trying to poach Japanese companies.

They’re notoriously “Japan first” in everything they do, but enough money would probably change that.

Pxtl, w Dusk: Unpopular opinion: I'd rather pay Valve 30% and put up with their de facto monopoly than help Epic work towards their own (very obviously desired) monopoly
@Pxtl@lemmy.ca avatar

It’s incredibly frustrating from an ideological perspective that the whole PC gaming industry runs on a benevolent dictatorship by Valve.

I mean they have near total control not just over sales, but over the gaming software installed on our PCs. They have the power to do whatever, whenever, to whoever.

But at the same time, they’re cool people with good products who have good stewardship of this role.

So we uncritically give them all the power.

It’s what happens when your competition is publicly traded cancer.

frezik,

GabeN is getting pretty old, and he can’t keep doing this forever. It’ll be interesting to see where the company goes after that.

By “interesting” I mean “expecting it to be handed over to salivating, greedy idiots who don’t know what made it work before”.

JokeDeity,

The day Gabe dies and pathetic bastards with business degrees take over and ruin everything that’s made Steam great for all these years, is the day I begin pirating everything.

Pxtl, (edited )
@Pxtl@lemmy.ca avatar

Exactly. Steam is a load-bearing member. After seeing what happened to Twitter, Reddit, Unity, Wikia, etc. it’s reasonable to think ahead. If Valve gets enshittified that’s basically the end of PC gaming.

FightMilk,

Good luck, piracy ain’t what it used to be. Denuvo is getting strong af

JokeDeity,

I don’t even play games that have Denuvo. But I’m happy to see many of them remove it after a few years because they can’t afford to keep paying for their game to literally be worse and several had been cracked (although it’s my understanding that only one person was cracking those games).

bastion,

…but… Literally, benevolent, sectionalized dictatorship is the only response to the Tragedy of the Commons.

…that is to say, individual responsibility and exercise of power. Work primarily on responsibility until you’ve got one area covered - then expand your power. Know your limits, and don’t try to expand your power beyond what you’re capable of handling responsibly. Encourage others to do likewise. Steam is good because they haven’t sold out, but are managed by people who have genuine interest in the industry, and who are willing to exercise power responsibly.

Mad Max for me. Story and stealth is better in DG, but the driving, vehicle combat and hand-to-hand combat is sooo much better in MM.

The car is basically a second character you upgrade throughout the game.

DG for me was too … Last of us-esque, without the memorable characters. Just an ok cover shooter with lots of stealth plus a vehicle, which was not very fun to drive or care about.

conciselyverbose,

The combat is basically AC/Arkham/Shadow of Mordor, but holy shit do the animations make it satisfying. There's this gritty desperate quality to it I haven't seen anywhere else.

@MajesticSloth@lemmy.world avatar

They just feel really impactful in Mad Max. I always wanted more because it just felt so satisfying to me.

DeathbringerThoctar, w Starfield Update 1.7.33 – September 25, 2023

Vendors: Addressed an issue that allowed for a vendor’s full inventory to be accessible.

Does that mean the glitches to access vendor chests in Akila City and New Atlantis have been removed?

DeathbringerThoctar,

Confirmed. Vendor chests are gone/inaccessible in New Atlantis, Akila City, and Neon. You can still get outside the map in New Atlantis and Neon but the chests aren’t there.

We remember it with fondness, and yet, it was the lootbox that started it all.

Good riddance.

MentalEdge,
@MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz avatar

True enough. But Overwatch was the first big game where they basically got completely ignored as an exploitative mechanic on PC.

Micro-transactions were for a long time mobile only, then it was free-to-play only.

Remember, OW was a full-price title. Yet, it still worked like a free-to-play.
