I was actually wondering if anything like this had happened before when I bought starfield. Starfield and a lot of games will have a deluxe version that you can buy that includes the dlc when it comes out, for cheaper than buying the base game and dlc separately. I was curious if any game that pre sold dlc like that failed to release the expansions and if so, what the outcome was.
Almost definitely true. The type of games that devolver publishes are often fantastic, but they are smaller experiences that a subscription pay model would nigh certainly never pay for fairly.
Synthetik isn’t actually a Shmup, if you’re looking for games like it you want to look into twinstick shooters. A Shmup is an automatically scrolling shooter with where you are traveling in a single primary direction. A true Shmup gives you freedom to move all around the screen but the screen scrolls through the level at a fixed rate. Famous shmups include Gradius, R-Type, Raiden. There are a few different subgenres but the main offshoot you’ll see is Bullet Hell.
A great place to start is the Touhou games, and fan games (My favourite is Blue Devil in the Belveder). My all time favourite Shmup is Teslapunk, but it’s pretty obscure and not exactly popular.
If you want to learn more look up Shmup Junkie on YouTube and join his discord. Lots of great guys and a curated list of beginner games/goals for someone who’s interested in the genre. Trust me there is a Shmup for every taste out there. Try lots to see what clicks for you!
Played female v when I first ran through the game, any reason against playing male v if I’m restarting? I’ve always heard female v was better but idk why. Only difference I know of is you can’t romance Judy.
Apart from who you can romance it’s only down to preference. Many people say Fem V is the better voice actor, but having experienced both I would say they shine in different moments. I probably like Masc V better as Streetkid/Nomad and Fem V better as Corpo. Also, for some of the most charged moments during the ending(s) I liked Masc V’s delivery better.
I’d say to Masc V this time to see the differences.
Same here, corpo Valerie and nomad Vincent seem like the best match. Even in terms of romances, if you can stand going through Panam's lol.
They definitely give off different vibes so I'd say it's worth experiencing both for sure.
Devolver have done some terrific games going way back - I think the first time I played one of their games was the first Reigns for mobile and that was what, 2016?
Their name is a good indicator of quality so good for them thinking rationally about what they have to offer to players and not just taking the money
They use ai to generate inaccurate pages, cover up text with egregious ads and refuse to remove content written by dissatisfied, migrating users but mostly just make unusable websites in general (I’m sure there’s even more reasons to boycott however)
And before that the majority of their content was scraped from other, well-meaning sources. They just have great SEO, don’t mind copy+pasting, and hope that the network effect makes them to de facto source for [insert topic] while serving you ads.
Their website is also extremely laggy with all the boatloads of ads they keep covering their pages with. The ads really got extremely out of control and made the entire website completely unusable for me - at least it’s possible to bypass that with BreezeWiki for now…
I'm not a fan of games that are designed by committee, and I fear AI-generated games would take that to the 11th degree.
Given that, I feel very specific aspects could still be vastly improved by AI, like games that implement procedural generation; I feel like his mention of procedural fears more of everything becoming procedural, instead of it supplementing the pre-existing applications of it. Those kinds of games hit a plateau at a certain point in the gameplay loop - the limitations of the tiles or combinations of assets starts to become very predictable and doesn't achieve the purpose it sets out to at that point.
Also to take into account, AI needs a dataset to train it, and to avoid the homogenization he fears would involve producing datasets for specific tasks, and differentiating them from one another; to me, devs producing these unique datasets to sell is inevitable, and there's definitely going to be a lot of "shovelware"-quality datasets being thrown around. The ethics of the data contained in a lot of those kinds of ones will definitely be questionable.
I really hope they patch some of the bugs then because otherwise it's gonna be unplayable. I have to use the remove glitch mod since my save got bugged after the glitch effect got stuck permanently on my character after a convo with Johnny.
I’m confused at how the Blood of Lathander wouldn’t be found on launch, there are so many triggers for it.
Reading the locked books, talking to the dead Tiefling, reading the plaque on the statue that’s dead center in the building. It’s hard to avoid honestly.
