verysoft, w 'Baldur's Gate 3' Is a Staggering Success and a Once in a Decade RPG

Well DOS2 came out 6 years ago, so hardly once in a decade.

nicktron,
@nicktron@kbin.social avatar

What’s DOS2?

Elegast,
@Elegast@lemmy.ca avatar

Divinity original sin 2 id assume. Great game as well by Larian.

scottywh,

Interesting that it didn’t gain similar notoriety then.

theragu40,

I think the Baldurs Gate name/brand carries a ton of weight still. Lots of people are nostalgic for it because it was a formative game of the 90s.

Bandananaan,

I think bg3 is also a lot easier to get into than dos 1 and 2. Having actual cut scenes and voice acting for everything goes a long way in making the game immersive. I also feel its easier to get into the combat (though that may just be me having got used to dos beforehand)

theragu40,

I’m really looking forward to playing it (I’ve promised myself to fully beat TotK before I pick it up). I played a ton of BG 1 and 2 when I was a kid and even for me they are hard to pick back up now. A slightly more accessible version of that sounds amazing.

Bandananaan,

I tried playing bg 1 and 2 about 10 years ago. I put about 40 hours in between them and enjoyed it, but I found it tough going. I’ve found bg3 way easier to get into and have already far surpassed the hours I put into the original games. On top of what I’ve already mentioned, the change to fully turn based is a huge improvement on that weird pausable real time used in the previous games

theragu40,

I’m really excited to hear that. The real time but actually not combat I think is what really killed me when I played them. I was only like 15 years old but I think I just didn’t “get” it and tried to just go for it in real time which made many encounters incredibly difficult.

BloodForTheBloodGod,

IMO it didn’t have an engaging start. The joke/parody concept also scratches s different itch.

RegularGoose,

6 years ago was a different decade.

BloodForTheBloodGod,

I found that game wasn’t 8% as engaging or interesting to.me

verysoft,

As BG3? Its the same formula, just different lore and combat.

BloodForTheBloodGod,

I just didn’t like it

Computerchairgeneral, w Cult of The Lamb x Don't Starve Together

Just finished Cult of the Lamb, but might have to pick it up for this. The survival mechanics sound interesting and it seems like they mesh well with the base game. Also, the crown having its own little tent when you sleep is a nice touch.

Computerchairgeneral, w Uncharted's Tom Holland reportedly set to star in Jak and Daxter adaptation with Chris Pratt

I am morbidly curious about how this movie will turn out. Will they try and make it a family-friendly adventure movie influenced by the first game? Or base it on the sequels, which tried to make everything darker and edgier? Also, why? Like, I would love it if there was a resurgence of interest in Jak & Daxter, but of all the IPs Sony wanted to adapt for film they chose one that hasn't had a game released since 2009?

ilco, w Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 release date potentially leaked

Lol I thought the game was canceld years ago

I was going to buy this to relive the Golden Era of stealth espionage action. Can’t have any nice things these days, least of all the memories.

fox2263, w Bethesda's Pete Hines Calls Out Former Blizzard WoW Team Lead Over 'Rushed' Starfield Start Screen Comments

Start screens need to do 3 things:

Get you in to the game. Customise the game. Get you out of the game.

I hate screens which have millions of options and areas and ads and words. cough CoD cough

I think starfield looks nice and simple.

FucKonami

Will never forgive them for what they did to MGS. The Fox Engine could have been the base for a whole new generation of Metal Gear, but instead they put out an 80% complete MGSV, and then shit out Survive which was just the nail in the coffin.

Makes me sad to see such wasted potential.

I think it looks almost exactly like the menu for Elite Dangerous, and nobody complained about that

clay_pidgin, w Uncharted's Tom Holland reportedly set to star in Jak and Daxter adaptation with Chris Pratt

I’m kind of tired of movie stars taking all the VO jobs. We don’t benefit from having these characters share a voice with spiderman and starlord.

Kinda figured it would be some bullshit when they were already taking a poll on whether people would be interested in another MGS getting the same treatment, only weeks after just announcing this collection. At least the sentiment was most “Hold your horses and finish this one first, then we’ll talk.”

Zozano, w Hands On: Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 Could Be So Much More, But Isn't

Fucking Konami. Do not buy this shit. Let Konami rot in the grave they dug themselves into.

conciselyverbose, w Hands On: Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 Could Be So Much More, But Isn't

I'm not surprised. Konami has made it extremely clear they don't respect the series at all.

This is honestly amazing to me since Naughty dog said they weren’t going to make “childish” games anymore and now they are making a Jak and Daxter movie? Wild.

Logster998, w Charles Martinet Will No Longer Voice Mario

This makes me worried, Charles they he wanted to voice Mario until he died. I’m hoping the video clears things up.

Nukken, (edited )

He is 67 now, probably just decided to slide into retirement. Or maybe he’s having a hard time even doing the Mario voice as he ages.

EverStar289,

Yeah I don’t really want to hear Chris Pratt every time I play a Mario game from now on.

fartsparkles,

Snap, unless he’s copying Charles’s iconic Mario sounds (ya-hoo), he’s entirely forgettable as a voice actor.

pastermil,

Hell, he’s even forgettable as an actor. Period.

Kalkaline,
@Kalkaline@programming.dev avatar

He was funny in Parks and Rec.

aircooledJenkins,

I like him as Starlord

quinnly,

He was wonderful in Moneyball, but then again so was everybody in that movie

fartsparkles,

Agreed, he knocked that role out of the park but other than that, he’s very generic. I don’t dislike the guy, all said (his ad-libbed lines in P&R are some of the funniest lines in the show).

vlad76,
@vlad76@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Granted, the only Mario games I’ve actually played was SMB on the NES and Odyssey, so I don’t have the same attachment to the character as some, but I still don’t get the hate Chris Pratt got for that role. The movie wasn’t anything really special, the character was fine. But people were freaking furious.

BartsBigBugBag,

Because Pratt isn’t a good voice actor. Really though, there were few standout performances in that entire movie, so he wasn’t alone in that. It’s almost like they picked the cast based on who can only play themselves, not on who would be a good choice. Princess Peach, Luigi, and Bowser were the only real solid performances in my opinion.

Bonesince1997,

And Luigi barely got screen time!

SquirtleHermit,

It had less to do with Pratt and more to do with it being a radical departure from the established voice of a very nostalgic and beloved character. It would basically be the same thing if Pratt was chosen to voice Micky Mouse or Bugs Bunny.

It’s also compounded by the fact that the Mario fan base, for good reason, loves Charles Martinet. Just see comments here for evidence. So pulling out a generic sounding Hollywood frontman felt like they were focusing on sales over source material. Which is true, but will always upset longtime fans.

VentraSqwal, w Charles Martinet will be stepping back from the voice of Mario and is taking on a brand-new "Mario Ambassador" role at Nintendo

I’m curious if it’s his choice or if Nintendo wants to make it Chris Pratt everywhere lol.

Monomate,

Let’s hope not. But I think they’d prefer a dedicated voice actor to replace him, as the logistics of Chris Pratt recording his voice lines between his acting commitments would cost too much for Nintendo.

ech,

It’s certainly pretty conspicuous timing, but the guy is also almost 70, and been doing the job for over 30 years. It’d definitely make sense for him to just figure it’s time to pull back.

MimicJar,
@MimicJar@lemmy.world avatar

0% chance Chris Pratt will play Mario in the video games. He’ll do the voice for another 2 movies along with the rest of the cast and that’ll be it.

We’ll get a few spin off movies, maybe he’ll appear in those briefly but then he’ll be done.

They’ll eventually do a 4th movie but I’ll have a name like “Universe” or “Dreams” and I’ll be a new Mario cast.
