Unfortunately, we still have work to do to rightsize our company and I regret having to share that we are taking the painful step to reduce our headcount by just over 500 people across Twitch.
Absolutely hate that "rightsizing" is a term. It's called downsizing and it will have negative impacts on Twitch users, Twitch as a platform, and the 500 Twitch employees that will be out of a job now.
Maybe Twitch should be "rightsizing" CEO and Executive Suite salaries?
I would love for some other store to give me a reason to shop with them instead. GOG is closest, and they still can't be bothered to give me a Galaxy client on Linux.
I feel now is like a mistake buying from other places. I bought cyberpunk from gog, I wish now I didn’t. For Christmas I got gifted lots of games from my steam wishlist. I couldn’t add phantom liberty coz I didn’t bought the base game from steam.
Sadly for every other company, Steam = more features and stability.
Exactly why I don't want to use GOG. There are third party clients, but I refuse to build an entire catalog if the company does not provide something official.
"In early 2019, ConcernedApe formed a small development team to continue updating the game. The 1.4 update of the game was developed by ConcernedApe, Arthur Lee (a.k.a. Mr. Podunkian), and Alex Erlandson (a.k.a. zillix). The 1.5 update of the game was developed by ConcernedApe and Arthur Lee. See Stardew Valley for more info about the game’s development. "
So he worked on 1.4 and 1.5 with ConcernedApe. Technically a former Stardew Valley developer, but title is just click bait to get attention. Up to 1.3 was a one man show, and by that point, who could blame ConcernedApe for hiring some help; the game was successful, and had the funds to do it, and help with his vision (possibly with things outside his expertise).
It's a little bit confusing title, because it's not Steam that has made the games for Free. This is not a comparable situation to what Epic Games does. Steam has nothing to do with the offering, other than hosting the game on the platform. All games are made Free by their own publishers.
Also it includes games that are always Free in price, such as Age of Advent. It serves as a sort of demonstration of the full game. And it never had a price attached to it, if I see it correctly. This article is either AI generated or the author don't know what he is writing (sorry if you read this, but its my opinion). Please fact check stuff before posting.
But the thing is, you generally don't just magically have the ability to seamlessly plop an ad into a part of the game. That kind of thing needs to be purpose built, to either have the option to plop an ad on the main menu + map, or to (more heinously) plop an ad ANYWHERE in the game.
So worst case scenario (well, not WORST because the game doesn't, like, go back in time to kill your grandfather or something) is that someone higher up said "Hey, what if we could put an ad anywhere in the game? Get the team working on that" and it was done... best case scenario is that I guess their games are coded so well that they can just seamlessly plop in a chunk of code that doesn't break anything else and just works?
But going off of past experience with Ubisoft games, that best case scenario is kind of laughable (insert a screenshot of the guy's face texture not loading for AC Unity here).
They are just lying. I don't trust this response for a single moment. We have seen how the slope as far as game monetization practices goes is in fact slippery.
Sports games already use in-game ads. They will keep going for as long as players take it.
I’m surprised since I’d assume most people don’t care where games are from and just buy it from whatever launcher. At least that’s what people claimed throughout the years.
I don't think anyone has claimed that ever. Having all my games spread across 8 different libraries is a pain in the ass. Having Steam plus Blizzard's Battlenet launcher was already pushing it in my opinion and I dropped them too after Overwatch 2. (Which, hilariously, is also now available on steam anyway).
to disagree slightly: there were many different stores and lunchers before Epic even existed. Apart from Steam I have bought games and other digital goods on Gog, Humble and the now- extinct Desura. While totally avoiding the stores from companies as Ubi or Ea because they just suck.
Having an addititional account wasn't the big issue. There were already attemts to integrade several libs into one launcher, and if not you can at least run the start commands for that games out of steam.
What was sucking from the beginning was that arrogance of this sweeny guy, his promises of hot air, and his telling us of being the great saviour for all developers - while we as paying custemers were fed up with this bad launcher that is still missing every user interaction.
In the end not even the developers have profited from the store. Sales are not as promised, and in order to release a game on this platform sweeny blackmails you to give away older titles for free.
Rather than paying devs for old or new games perhaps Epic could put that money into making their launcher/store good?
The Epic launcher is intensely slow, I've got a 13700k, 32GB RAM, RTX 4080, stupid fast nvme SSD etc. Everything on it should be instant, why does it take ages just to load my library? Why can I not select the library to display by default?
Why is the interface so slow and horrible? Where are all the features of its competitor steam?
Why after all these years has it not seen any real improvement at all?
I worked at Puny Human for a very brief moment, and am friends with the CEO and CTO. The closure is devastating. I want to make sure I am not saying anything not already public so: gamesindustry.biz/puny-human-shutting-down-after-… all I can say is screw clients that don’t pay. More than once Puny Human paid me even though a client didn’t. Sometimes those clients eventually paid, and sometimes they didn’t. The games industry is filled with people who will happily steal from you. Puny Human has always been a respectable studio filled with the most caring people I know. People who strived to make friends, not just money.
Why do you think corporate consolidation should happen? Every time it does it benefits the corporations and never the consumer. Anti-trust is incredibly important to keep business from taking control of aspects of our culture and socialization.
This corporate consolidation helps more people than it hurts.
Corporate consolidation isn’t just always a bad thing. This would be a good thing for basically everyone that’s not exclusively a PlayStation-only player.
No corporate consolidation is how you end up with companies like Sony to begin with. And even then, they’re funding the creation of new pop culture while this is Microsoft wanting to grab up existing culture so they can profit from it. One is an example of something being created and the other is something being hoarded.
Any short term benefit a consumer sees from consolidation is simply a cost the corporation pays to achieve a scenario where they no longer have to provide those benefits. Microsoft is already very well know for the Embrace, Envelop, Extinguish strategy so assuming good will on their part is painfully naïve.
Corporations are not your friend and don’t care about your well-being, they just want your money.
This is the first I’m hearing of it and I’m so confused. Is this just at character creation? Why was it removed?
Is this mod for people who are triggered because the field isn’t free form and the only choices are he/she/they? Or people who are triggered because the sheer existence of a they option is an anathema to their existence?
Even the argument in the comments is so vague it sheds no light.

People triggered because of a they option in character creation. Basically, for folks like this dude.
There is a prominent movement where people don't want to see LGBTQA+ people anywhere. They don't want queer people to exist in their world. It makes them very mad to be exposed to the existence of LGBTQA+ people.
I personally think that they are just some queer people in denial, thinking they are going to catch the gay. Those gay thoughts aren't going to go away for these people no matter how they cater their reality.
