Okay, so every time I decide I'm going to play a retro game through emulation, a remaster is announced, giving me access and an opportunity to enjoy a better version of the game instead. It happened with Metroid Prime, Link's Awakening, Baten Kaitos, Trails from Zero/to Azure, FF pixel remasters, KOTOR, Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance, and now this I guess... So for the sake of everyone else, what retro games are worth adding to my list?
Look I'm just saying if you have the ability to conjure into our reality remasters and remakes of old games, I'm going to suck your fucking dick if we can get an Illusion of Gaia (snes) remaster sometime soon.
Why did they not update the lighting? I feel like that’s a huge miss. I personally also don’t like the new art style on the cut scenes, the pixel art was beautiful
To clarify, the British complaint about the streaming market is almost guaranteed to be the cause of this, but nothing in that article claims exclusive streaming rights. Ubisoft will be guaranteed a right to stream the games (on seemingly any platform but maybe mobile), but the language used any time the article quotes the blog post seems to imply that they'll still be able to also offer them themselves or license them elsewhere. Their point of emphasis is that it prevents Microsoft from exclusivity of streaming rights, not that Microsoft still doesn't have them or can't also license them to others. (It also mentions Microsoft abiding by other existing rights deals).

It seems like game studios cannot possibly do right in this regard. They can either be like valve or rockstar where they are criticized for taking their time, although they almost always put out great original titles or they can be like cd project red where they push out the game as fast as they can and they are criticized for rushing it. There can be no middle ground as to not rush it and to make it a good game may mean delaying repeatedly until it’s in a releasable state, and only the studio can be given that decision.
Well some people are always gonna complain but The majority wants finished polished games. So they can do it right. I don’t get the dude tbh. Does he really prefer to be disappointed? There are so many games to play while waiting
Really excited about Alan Wake 2. So far it's looking like a great mash-up between the first game's more traditional horror elements and the more surreal stuff introduced in Control. Looking forward to release day.
It's been a long time since that was the case though. Now you have to update the console, update the controller firmware, install the game, and update the game.
Sure, but they're approaching a convergence. PCs have gotten easier and consoles have become less streamlined. With something like the Steam Deck, it's even more blurred.
Steam is legitimately easier and faster to get games going on than my PS4 these days IMO. Library is laid out alot better and there's no signing in whenever I turn on a controller. Its still easier to do local multiplayer on PS4, but not by much.
and there’s no signing in whenever I turn on a controller
Can you not sync your account to a specific controller on Playstation? Xbox has that for a while, though the whole software experience has generally been Xbox’s strong suit imho
While only the Steam Deck has achieved massive success, it shows there are ways to reduce the prep time for PC gaming, to almost as little as modern consoles (since you do, ultimately, have to install drivers on console.)
Don't forget RISC-V, it's really the future i think. Anyone who doesn't want to live under the yoke of proprietary architectures, this looks to be the only alternative to the status quo.
If I was seeing RISC-V get widespread adoption in consumer-grade hardware, I’d be thinking about it (granted, having X86-64 and ARM on the market could make room for a third competitor compared to the 15-year x86 hegemony.) But I don’t see a push for that, and there probably won’t be unless RISC-V delivers better results than ARM. Keep in mind that you and I probably care more about CPU architecture than the average gamer.
I’m okay with this on the condition that that platform is PC.
You want developers to choose a specific set of hardware requirements and only develop games to target and work on that specific set of hardware specifications?
The context appears to be mainly about how having to develop for different consoles/hardware configurations/etc makes development harder. So, choosing PC as the "platform" in this context would be the worst possible option to choose.
Eager to watch this video now! The first one is a phenomenally unique rogue like and very fun, basically if Deus Ex were a top down rogue like and didn't take itself seriously
