Nintendo to the Patent Office: “We invented farming games with the introduction of berries in Pokémon. Please ignore all other prior art that wasn’t ours.”
I loved the lore of the original and the asymmetric play-styles were really unique, but I think I’ve just outgrown my 4X phase. Still hope the game does well
If Valve were any other company, it would get crucified for its practices, including that it was the first in the West to popularize microtransactions with its Team Fortress 2, long before the likes of EA. It’s just that gamers have a blind spot for Valve.
I’m torn. Valve has been so good for Linux gaming. They made a handheld console that emphasizes real ownership and the right to repair. They generally make good decisions when it comes to things and while they do take a big cut of game sales, their platform has so many features it’s crazy.
This gambling thing though really sucks. I get that they need to monetize, but I feel like they could get away with just selling skins, or having the loot boxes being a free daily play reward that drops things that could be sellable on the marketplace. No way to buy a box like this. Just earned for free through play.
Thats a great video. I looked to see if the creator was on Nebula instead of youtube, but it doesn’t appear he is. That’s a shame too, he’d be right at home with the style of his content.
The hype has clearly faded from like 2016 when the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift were hot new tech. There are still games with great production value around and they’ll give you emotional and visceral experiences you’ll never feel in flat games.
Is it worth getting into currently?
For PC-based VR, you can get a used Vive for a few hundred dollars, and you’ll need a PC with modest gaming power. I’ve run Half-Life Alyx acceptably fine on an RX 580, a medium graphics card from 2017, which is often listed as the minimum required.
In VR games, everything feels more intense. Scary parts, sad parts, action-packed parts. Characters making direct eye contact with you feels really gripping. Being able to see and hear the game world all around you is a level of immersion you’ve probably not felt before.
Whether the entry price is worth accessing this niche of highly immersive games is up to you.
Wait for Deckard / Steam Frame to modernize PCVR again…once PCVR is truly wireless, we could have a resurgence similar to when the original Quest and Quest 2 launched
In terms of gaming or development? Gaming is fun. I am loving VR! Got the Quest 3 recently too. In development … not really sure to be honest, it’s my first time. A bit more tricky then creating normal games that’s for sure haha. Will try to keep updates on how it goes! :)
This looks really cool. But I wouldn’t show so much of the monster in the trailer. The first time was especially bad, the second time the best way, if you want to show it at all.
There was alcohol involved. Alliances were made, alliances were broken, butts got hurt. It’s a hell of a game. TBF the friendship was already rocky. This was the coffin nail. Him spilling red wine on my new white cloth couch and blaming me for having a white couch didn’t help.
I’ll never forget when one of my roommates in college spent like $500 on the board game and his friends came over to play and it took them 4 hours to set the game up and process the instructions, then they played for a couple hours.
